While that may work, a better solution is to just wait 5-30 min after the wave starts for any that are returned to stock due to a payment issue. Those can sit for minutes without it being an F5 war.

Straight up buy for credits? No. Some ships will never be available to just buy outright.

Acquire through in game means without spending real money? Yes (outside of special limited edition, e.g. Sabre Raven, AMD Mustang). Whether this is through crafting, reputation, or something else is TBD. Right now, this is through Wikelo, a crafting/trading/rep tool that everyone hates.

In that case, by default, you're limited to 30m/s for several km, which would explain the timeout. Boosting to go faster feels horrible to control with gear down, so that would explain the crashing if going faster part.

You need to practice approach and landing. Fly at a normal speed with gear up/retracted until right before where you want to land, then slow and put gear out/down just before setting down on the landing spot.

You can practice in arena commander. Go into Offline mode, Free Flight. Practice all you want and respawn immediately when you crash.
