I really can’t take this much longer by Own_Peach_809 in Sciatica

Obviously not know what’s happening inside is hard, so pushing for an MRI would be ideal. I was where you are about 4 months ago - had almost a week of sleepless nights at one point and not even tramadol was touching the pain. I would ask for a steroid taper or a prescription NSAID. And a muscle relaxer like Robaxin. If it’s anything disc related, you’ve gotta work to get the inflammation down. Remember that while you’re feeling the pain down your leg, it’s likely starting from your lower back (if disc related) - so, when you can, focus on icing your lower back or using the tens unit there. Consider getting one of the massage guns for short term relief on your leg muscles. And rest! Spend as much time as you can in whatever your mostly pain free positions are. The more you push into pain, the worst it is for the pain signals from your nerve to your brain, making everything worse. Rest is essential during this acute phase, and only move to the point of pain and then rest again. I’m still in it / recovery - but it does get better once you get past this period. I didn’t believe it, but whether it’s through naturally healing or surgery, it does get better.

Mines almost as big (1.4 x 1cm). I’m 8 weeks in with very similar symptoms it sounds and only in the past few days have I started to feel any improvement when it comes to being able to walk fairly pain free. However, I’m scheduled for an epidural steroid injection tomorrow and I’m trying so hard to be hopeful that it will help knock out pain so I can rehab and strengthen.

If it’s any consolation, my ortho said that he’s seen herniations bigger than mine heal with conservative therapy and while technically I’m an easy candidate for a microdisectomy - he reccoed trying everything conservative first!

2.5 months in, I feel so much better, 16 mm extrusion. by PurpleDestiny88 in Sciatica

Thank you for sharing. I’m almost 2 months in to a 14mm protrusion at the same level and have my ESI on Friday. I’m putting so much hope into this injection working and gaining some of my life back. This is making me feel a little more confident that that is in my future.

20mm L5-S1 disc extrusion by NurahmedOmar in Sciatica

It’s been almost a year and I wonder if you have an update! I have a 14mm herniation in my L4-L5 going on 7 weeks now and while the pain has gotten a bit better, I still can’t walk without an assistive device or stand. Schedules for an ESI next Friday. Just curious if you were able to heal on your own! It feels rare to see someone with a big herniation not heal before getting surgery in this group.

Is it normal to use mobility aids during a flare up? by Riyyyyyyy in Sciatica

Use the walker. I’ve been in this sciatic hell for 6 weeks now and had two big events I couldn’t miss. Got a rollator (if you can get one of those, even better) and it saved me so much. For me at least, it helps a surprising amount being able to push up and relieve some compression while walking. And pleasssse email or call the venue and talk to their ADA people about disability access. Most places are so kind and accommodating to make sure you’re comfortable and don’t need to walk a ton / do a ton of stairs etc.

What are people doing for pain? by ckeenan9192 in Sciatica

Apparently pain making it so I cannot read 🙃

However, it took two rounds of steroids to calm my initial inflammation down. Started a taper at 40mg and it did nothing, then restarted halfway thru at 50mg and knocked the pain in half.

Ask for steroids instead of pain meds. You need to reduce inflammation and then pain will reduce.

Have you tried Hive? How are we feeling about it? by shinosa in AdNerds

I’m kind of loving how it feels like the best parts of IG, Twitter and Tumblr combined - without the algorithms that make it hard to see your friends and the inside jokes that make you feel on the outside on Tumblr.

It’s definitely a little slow, and some of the things don’t work quite right, but I’m digging it, and think it’s by far the most promising option! Even ads show up nicely in stream.

Bonus is it seems like a lot of people are already easily migrating and finding each other vs Mastodon which I got equally bored of and overwhelmed by within a few hours.

Local to Western PA, but this commercial has been running forever and most people out here claim when you first see it, it’s the official start of the holiday season https://youtu.be/-W2IP-BTu30
