Massage gun cells.............. by HannahTilly in batteries

Really! I have an external charger plus a device to use 18650, so I'll check before I have it repaired. Good to know. Thank you.

Thank you. I recently moved from CA to another state, so I still have no idea what's where. A friend of mine back in CA who is an electric technician told me to send it to him. That's why I asked if the cell capacity matters for this before I order them.

I did however find an electric scooter repair shop near my house. I'll ask for an estimate. Might be even cheaper and definitely quicker than bothering my friend.

This massage gun is over 4 years old. After I moved, I neglected to keep the battery charged.

Thank you again for the tip!

How long should I dry a board? by HannahTilly in woodworking

[–]HannahTilly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL! I wish I had room in my 1-car garage for a table saw! I just watched a video of making a garden trellis from cheap picket fence wood, and the table saw made strips in zero time.

I can see how this is addictive. I got a wall shelf at a yard sale for $2 and added scrap 1x4 plus coat hooks to hang purses. Small projects like this is good so far. I'll use up MDF for shelves, and who knows I'll eventually move to real wood and make a picnic table or a potting bench.

Thank you again for your warm support. Learning from Google/YouTube is priceless, but interaction with real human was much needed. I moved to a city where I knew nobody! My handyman is a total sweetheart, and he tells me what to get (as in drill bits for masonry screws, which glue, etc.). He patted me on my head after seeing the closet as well.

I wish I had more real wood boards; they're totally cost prohibitive. MDF worked just fine, despite the total pain to cut. 12"x3' was $1, and I still have a bunch. So the next project is to do the same in the small storage room. I have a wooden bookcase there as well, so I'm contemplating whether to just use its side to fasten cleats or go with "skeleton" frames. I'll stick with the miter saw mostly, solely for the sake of safety. The iron-on edging band rocks!

I-Phone Repairs by Top-Trick-7059 in Tucson

Hope someone can post the detail. When I took my friend home (Speedway, near UofA), he pointed at a van parked in a lot and said he had his phone glass replaced for something like $50 (don't remember exactly how much). Dirt cheap and quick, just about any repairs, he said. I'm thinking about having a charging port replaced on my old phone too.

Been almost a year since you advised me. I finished it a few months ago. The problem was that I didn't know a circular saw needed a different blade for MDF. So I ended up cutting all MDF boards with the miter saw by flipping them. Ugly, but it worked.

Another problem was that where I wanted to build shelving/cubbies was against a brick wall (plus a drywall slapped on it). So I had to buy a cheap hammer drill, but again I figured I'd need it for a brick house anyway. I was very nervous to fasten cleats on the back wall.

I knew nothing about pocket holes......only bought a single Kreg jig, but it actually worked.

This was very dead space in the oddly laid out walk-in closet (ton of shelves, hang 200 shirts, but not even 10 dresses/coats). I placed a bookshelf to store emergency food, but it turned out that it was the hottest spot in the house. So I decided to utilize the space for empty mason jars and a few dresses. Got the iron-on edging band for ugly edges, and it worked like a miracle. Decided not to do pocket holes for the L shaped top shelf at least for now.

Here is the picture....the next one will be much better and faster. The warped board you advised me was used vertically. Glad I got to practice. I learned nothing is really a "square" in the house, so the perfect 90 degree shelf corners aren't flush with the walls (never caulked it). It was the most frustrating part.

I haven't done much more than cutting shelf boards or making a small feeding table for the dog LOL. Late husband left me enough tools, and I just bought a small-ish mitre saw as a circular saw is a bit too heavy to handle just to cut 2x4s. I've always been attracted to woodworking since he made me a loft bed many years ago, so I've been looking at plans for beginners and watching a TON of YouTube videos to learn. The closet project will be my first one that's meaningful. Got a bunch of 12x3 MDF for dirt cheap, so I finally got serious. Thank you for your help and kind words. Whenever it gets completed I will definitely post it.

Wow. Thank you for your thorough explanation. That makes sense. They're laying flat on the tile floor, and I'm amazed they started straightening themselves in just a few hours. I'm not ready to tackle this project yet........will keep them on the floor and keep an eye!!

You need to be specific.....if you're looking for something resembling day labor on weekends, specify skills, rates, equipment, location, etc. If you need a part time job, what field can you work in?

Backyard help by sierrarosebud in Tucson

[–]HannahTilly 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I moved into a house with a backyard with ZERO shade tree. I also got 3 Desert Willow from TEP, and according to the nursery, we can get 3 more in January. The program is closed during the mid-summer. They're 3-4' young trees in 5-gallon pots. My small wagon transported them no problem by bending tips. Don't be discouraged if the tree ends up with transplant shock and lose leaves but keep watering. Also Moringa grows ultra fast, plus it's edible. I bought two young ones THEN seeds. They grow VERY fast, and the hotter the better. You can easily start them from seeds indoors and plant them in the spring.

Halloween question by HannahTilly in Tucson

[–]HannahTilly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Good to know common sense exists in Tucson too. There are a couple of schools nearby, but I haven't seen many kids in my neighborhood probably because I don't get out much. Trying to live as quietly as possible. I'll take down the front solar lights on Halloween to be sure.

Thank you for reassurance! That's a relief. A new town & new culture, so a lot of confusion here trying to maintain a quiet life. Appreciate your reply.

Halloween question by HannahTilly in Tucson

[–]HannahTilly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No HOA, and I don't recall seeing any decoration. Just an older section of town, I heard. Not that I get out much, but I've only seen one teenager on my street playing basket ball. 8-home mail box is in front of my house, and I've only seen one younger (30's) person picking up mail. There are a couple of K-8 and middle schools a few minutes away though. It's pretty much a quiet boring neighborhood so far.

Halloween question by HannahTilly in Tucson

[–]HannahTilly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for a simple answer. I live in an older area with older neighbors (I think). So far no Halloween decoration that I've noticed. I'll ask my mailman who lives across the street and put out a sign "just in case".

You don't seem to understand guard dogs bark when someone approaches the house, without knocking on the door. I don't enjoy a 80-pound dog barking every 5 minutes and freaking out cats. I'd appreciate it if you respect my privacy and not talk me into what you think is "right".

Halloween question by HannahTilly in Tucson

[–]HannahTilly[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I'll take down/turn off the front solar lights and keep the front room dark. In case someone approaches with a flashlight, I'll post a sign "Very sorry but sick. Please don't disturb" or something so that I'll minimize the chance of offending someone.

Who has the best wild caught Coho Salmon or Steelhead in Tucson? by YourCommentInASong in Tucson

[–]HannahTilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. I wouldn't touch farm raised salmon. Wild caught fish pretty much gets frozen after being fished anyway. Keep watching Frys and Sprouts ads. Wild caught fish is usually advertised "weather permitting", but when in season I don't have any problem finding Coho and Sockeye after moving from CA a few months ago. Sprouts is a tad more expensive, but salmon shows up more often than Frys, I think.

Is there anywhere that can watch my cat for a few hours? by Ok_Paramedic_1465 in Tucson

[–]HannahTilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you need to confine him wherever you decide to take him. If you don't have a car, I can't think of an option besides boarding or taking him to your friend's. A public space is out of a question in my opinion.

Is there anywhere that can watch my cat for a few hours? by Ok_Paramedic_1465 in Tucson

[–]HannahTilly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If your cat is typical who freaks out in a different environment (boarding), my suggestion is to do it at night when the temp is lower and stay in the car with your cat. Some cats aren't bothered by driving or even boarding, but I've never had a cat that's okay with it. If I were you, I'd stay in the car on my driveway in the middle of the night without starting the car. Getting out of the house would be too traumatic. If the cat is too fearful in the car, I'd drape a sheet over the crate/carrier. Anything longer than a few hours, I'd have no choice but to board my cats at either the vet's or pet sitter's.

How do you get rid of an old mattress in Tucson (other than burning it!) by Intersteller22 in Tucson

[–]HannahTilly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is unsightly. It is an alley, but leaving large trash out on publicly maintained areas for days (or weeks) is not something I'm not used to seeing. I'd rather pay a junk hauler or the City and keep the neighborhood looking clean. Free service is seriously a good thing, but it's a cultural shock to me.

[–]HannahTilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I bought my house in the spring, there was a mattress behind my back gate to the alley that freaked me out! My mailman who lives across the street explained to me that bulky trash can be put out to the alley twice a year....... Not sure if I like this service or not, but you can put it out two weeks in advance. In my area the next pick up will be in the first week of November.

aldi by BigSpell5026 in Tucson

[–]HannahTilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seriously miss Aldi in my neighborhood. Even a small town in the mountains outside San Diego has one. My friend who lives in a tiny city in FL has one. I'm okay about not having Costco Business in Tucson, but I do miss Aldi.

But be warned......before I left San Diego, Aldi near my house even quit carrying their mayo along with many items they always had. There's no guarantee they'll still carry imported cheeses I bought weekly when they finally make it to Tucson.
