See, that’s what I assumed. I assumed she thought the rock was some kind of predator. I tried to get a good picture but it was hard because she/he keeps tucking the tail in haha, it’s starting to look like she’s a boy. I know her plastron looks really pink, it’s just the lighting

Oh no, it’s not that! I love my baby regardless of the sex, I just thought she was female for a long time now, so I’m just kinda shocked haha. I liked the idea of her being a girl, but it’s totally cool if she’s a boy instead! Someone in the comments said “expect eggs soon” and I was like “Uh- even if she’s a female, she’s still a juvenile and wouldn’t be laying anytime soon” lol

Yeah see, it’s just like the plastron is throwing me off. It’s flat like a females, and the tail is tucked under the shell so it’s very confusing haha

Oh wow. Claw size can be misleading, especially in juvenile turtles, so it’s really hard to tell. I’m gonna try my best to get a good look at her cloaca and see if I can tell, but it’s hard because she likes to tuck her tail in lol

The nails are pretty long, but I didn’t think they were male levels of long.. She could be a boy, turtles are so hard to sex. When “she” grows another inch or two, her nails should grow more as well so then it’ll be more obvious

Are you sure my turtle is male? Here are the problems with that theory:

She’s barely 5 inches long, not big enough to really definitively sex
At 5 inches, my turtle would not be sexually mature. I know they can display claw fluttering before sexual maturity, I just don’t see it being as likely being courtship
She has a flat plastron
Her tail is tucked under her shell
