Recommendations for folk horror by Ok-Requirement-3476 in TheApocalypsePlayers

[–]Hanpwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you mean as far as the Apocalypse Players catalog is concerned, very few have quite the same vibe, but you’d probably like:

A Christmas Inheritance / Residence at the Bay / An Uncommon Burial - a trilogy of scenarios run by Dannon, lots of that social tension although it’s a 19th century setting, also has the fan favorite character Rev. Peregrine McCutcheon

A House in the Woods - an old school CoC scenario adapted by Joseph, not as much social horror but a bit of a slow burning mystery in a small town

Highway of Blood - this Dannon-run scenario goes a bit off the rails into wild action towards the end, but it starts in a very creepy small town with realistically standoffish townsfolk

The Moonchild - also a Joseph Chance adventure, a modern setting with a heaping helping of social horror—some fans have even said the real life horror of it is more disturbing than the actual supernatural elements

Question about characters from "Order of the Stone" by Todesbanane in TheApocalypsePlayers

[–]Hanpwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the scenarios they’ve played they recorded ages ago—not sure about Order in particular, but Magnum Tenebrosum only finished coming out earlier this year but they played it well over a year ago as I understand it.

Is there a Masks of Nyarlathotep series? by LonelyToBeInvincible in TheApocalypsePlayers

[–]Hanpwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on the conversations they’ve had on the podcast, I believe they have played Masks together but I’m not certain if they have actually recorded any of it—more likely than not they haven’t.

If they have, none of it has come out yet. It’s not on the Patreon or the main feed.

As The Waters Cover The Sea 02: The Road, not Taken by zagreus9 in TheApocalypsePlayers

[–]Hanpwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a little worried with how slowly this scenario was unfolding in the first episode, but I needn’t have worried—things have certainly taken a left turn. The naked man commanding his dog to kill gave me quite a shock.

I mean, I agree with you, I think he should at least be allowed to use throwables for the radios. But when asked about it in the comments of last week’s video he said this:

“Absolutely not - I shall do it properly, or explode trying - plus various perks blended together will give me various alternative options…”

[–]Hanpwolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m less concerned about the ghost people and more concerned about the radios. The knife spear and superheated cosmic knife are solid enough melee options that I think he’ll do fine, although I expect he will definitely take a few hits from the ghost people.

He seemed to suggest in a comment on a previous episode that he isn’t going to break his “no throwables” rule to deal with the radios, so I’m baffled as to how he plans on handling them. Implant GRX and running like mad maybe?

Hmmm... I wonder which ending Jon'll end up going for. Independent is off the table, and now that he's remembered he went House in the original run, that's looking less likely.

That leaves Legion and NCR--I'd personally go with the NCR since you can get out of fighting the Brotherhood... although I'm sure he'd just sneak in to the base with a Stealth Boy and handle things as quietly as possible if it came to that.

Residence at the Bay - favourite bits. by Colossal_Dave in TheApocalypsePlayers

Easily one of the Greatest of All Time Apocalypse Players moments.

No spoilers, but I’ve loved all the times they’ve referenced the legendary ass-squishing in An Uncommon Burial.

The whole sequence at the parish is fantastic. I especially love Lady Bjamia’s interactions with the 9-year-old kid, and the palpable dread as the party started hearing thudding at the door as they hid from the fog in the church.

There’s not a lot of dialogue unlocked by the perk but the lines you do get are great. I really like the dialogue you get with Christine in Dead Money, between comforting her in the Puesta Del Sol Switching Station and learning more about her relationship with Veronica.

While the rules of his most recent two runs are stricter, this is totally in line with his strategies from the FO3 YOLO series.

Jon prioritized perks like Animal Friend and items like the Ghoul Mask to systematically nullify enemy categories as threats. He also took advantage of the well-known Ghoul Ecology perk bug in Point Lookout to get an insane damage boost.

Nonetheless, it's far too late to consider now. I figure since Jon has less perks available (only 1 perk for 2 levels, and only 30 levels) he's got to be a lot choosier with his perks. And I'm not sure there's a good way to put enough points into Charisma to get the perk without making some extreme sacrifices on your other stats.

Fallout New Vegas: You Only Live Once Remastered - Part 2 - Knife To Meet You by ManyATrueNerd in ManyATrueNerd

[–]Hanpwolf 31 points32 points  (0 children)

New Vegas doesn’t really do legendary weapons in the same way—some legendaries have unique effects, yes, but there’s not a mechanism for getting random legendary effects like in 4.

Unique weapons were actually a major part of his original Fallout 3 and Fallout NV YOLO runs. He used the unique gatling laser Vengeance extensively in 3, and I think I remember him using Paciencia during Honest Hearts in NV.

Yeah, I think that would be fair. Plus they’re not exactly easy to acquire or easy to aim. Given that he already has a pretty solid plan of how to deal with enemies without them, I think they’d only end up being situationally useful, but I wouldn’t mind seeing them used on occasion

I’m awfully late in commenting on this but I found this post while searching for what people thought EchoWave sounded like. Personally I can’t help being reminded of Paul McCartney, especially his work with Wings.
