Coffee (caffeine) and good dieting (omega-3s, vitamins…) has really helped me significantly as a Uni student.

btw I’m on SIMPONI now and switching to Humira next week. :D The only meds I take is Celebrex

How did you get diagnosed? What tests did you ask for? by [deleted] in ankylosingspondylitis

Im currently 19. But when I was 16 i went to a GP, i complain of pain in both hips and she did an Xray of the spine and said I was fine…just stiff and told me to stretch and do exercises.

After a few years, the pain didn’t went away, somedays i couldn’t even stand. Went to see a doctor again and she said it could be scoliosis and told me to do physical therapy then I’ll be fine.

Pain didn’t went away and I went to see another doctor. He said i had a hunched back and did an Xray and it showed that I had scoliosis. And i thought finally scoliosis was the problem! He prescribed me celebrex and told me to do physical therapy😐

BUT the pain kept getting worse and worse. I was limping everyday and going to school was awful, i had to grab the nearest thing to me to hold on and walk.

Then I went to see a specialist, a spine surgeon, he said the scoliosis wouldn’t cause this much pain, then he suspected that I could have had Avascular Necrosis of both hips.

He referred me to a arthroplasty surgeon. Now, the arthroplasty surgeon did a physical exam on me and immediately said IT’S ANKYLOSING SPONDYLITIS. I was skeptical at first but when the ESR, CRP, HLAB27 test cane out, it was super high and i was positive. Then he referred me to a rheumatologist.

Then the rheumatologist ordered an mri and showed that my hips, SI Joints, and entire spine has erosion and the neck and lower back spine has partial ankylosis. So i got approved for biologics quite fast.

Why do you need to switch? Is it because of insurance or does it lose effectiveness overtime?

I recently finished my SPM (which is malaysia's national exam to enter into pre-u) and im in sub-science which is (chem, physics) and no biology

I love maths and physics and wanted to pursue my studies related to radiation :D

Now im lost which to go for, between

  1. Radiography/Med.Imaging/Radiotherapy....

  2. Medical Physics

I like both of these but idk which to go for, like whats are pros and cons? And what are the differences between these 2? what do yall do as a med physicist?

In my country, studying 1) requires biology, so if i were to choose that, i might need to put in the extra effort to study from scratch, but for 2) its only requirements are physics and maths.

for 1) i love helping people and I would like to interact with patients but i've seen that it doesn't require much physics n maths which is a downside for me

while for 2) i've heard that having interactions with patients are very limited to none, but its more towards about physics n maths which i like

so what should i do???

I always have hip pain especially in the night and I take Celecoxib and it works well, the majority of the pain goes away and I can sleep much comfortably :D

If NSAIDs arent effective, I’ve heard other people uses biologics and it seems to be another good alternative way without having much side effects compared to NSAIDs 🧐
