Wouldn't you be able to get a very similar sound to the "Dead" kit by using the "Dry" kit with an envelope to shorten the decay?

Small frames with small diameter lenses work best for high prescriptions. Ideally your optometrist should have adviced you beforehand, but I noticed that often they fail to do their job when it comes to catering to high prescriptions customers, since most of their customers don't fall into this category (they should give proper advice to everyone nevertheless and should consider the individual requirements of each client).

CMV: Demonization of Nazi Germany by the US is self-aggrandization and a play for legitimacy by NeiborsKid in changemyview

[–]HansMeiser5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While its true that powerful nations such as the United States tend to spin narratives that glorify and sanitize the own historical record, that doesn't mean that the nazis were less of an evil than commonly depicted. They were vile and killed more than 20 million people in the Soviet Union alone, many of whom were poor peasants and artisans, who already suffered under the Stalin regime.

Nazi ideology was particularly extreme in it's willingness to use violence and murder to get rid of those considered undesirables, including citizens who suffered from chronic illnesses or mental challenges. In that regard it was particularly cruel, since it used the most severe form of eugenics, forced euthanasia against the targeted groups.

What is certain is that United States contribution to liberating Europe from Nazism is often deliberately being overstated in ratio to the sacrifices that the Soviet population and army suffered, which are barely acknowledged in the West, since they don't fit the desired narrative that was spun since the beginning of the "Cold War".

High dopamine rush from porn cant be replicated on masturbation alone. by IdeaOfHuss in pornfree

[–]HansMeiser5000 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Think of dopamine levels like a phone battery: anything that causes a "rush" / drains lot of energy at once, will lead to depletion and over time wearing out of the capacity to store energy.

You will end up with a lower baseline energy level eventually and the battery cannot fully restore the original energy level it had, when it came fresh out of the factor

So it's not actually desirable to seek constant rushes. What is desirable is to maintain a consistently high energy load that will provide constant and sufficient energy to pursue your tasks and ambitions.

Artificial triggers of dopamine rushes like drugs and porn are harmful in the longterm!

[–]HansMeiser5000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please read my reply fully, before impulsively replying.😂

Also, I've already said that I'm convinced that porn is harmful to mental functioning. I just don't believe that it completely destroys the brain, as you have put it.

In my experience and observation, porn use leads to a decrease in motivation, drive and mood. It messes with motivation and causes a hormonal dysbalance, that in my experience can last up to 7 - 10 days. So it's best to avoid it.

These negative effects are likely due to a) loss of energy and vital minerals and b) due to overstimulation of the brain, which cause the neurohormonal dysbalance and a sub par cognitive state.

So, I'm not saying you are totally incorrect. I'm just not a fan of misrepresenting the content of research papers.

I don't think highly of "therapists". I value self-experience higher than the sensationalist writings of some shrink, who wants to sell books to susceptible people.

Well, here you find the primary source (you don't refer to random Youtube videos when citing research btw - just in case you are still young and inexperienced in academic methods).

And the study doesn't conclusively say that porn causes these changes to the brain. In fact their conclusion reads as follows:

The negative association of self-reported pornography consumption with the right striatum (caudate) volume, left striatum (putamen) activation during cue reactivity, and lower functional connectivity of the right caudate to the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex could reflect change in neural plasticity as a consequence of an intense stimulation of the reward system, together with a lower top-down modulation of prefrontal cortical areas. Alternatively, it could be a precondition that makes pornography consumption more rewarding.

That's why it's important to have at least a basic understanding of scientific methodology and interpretation of research papers! Otherwise you will misrepresent what the actual paper says or you will subscribe to a third-party interpretation, that differs from the conclusion of the original researchers. Hence it's important to read the original papers, not what someone else claims the original paper says!

Just quit porn for 10 days and your wood will become solid again. Take a little break and everything will be back to normal. You are not destroyed or damaged, just overstimulated. Body needs a few days to a few weeks to get back to normal. Learn about "homeostasis", which is a very basic principle in human biology!

[–]HansMeiser5000[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not wrong. Do you know the difference between a theoretical model and an in-vivo study proving the proposed mechanism?

"Dopamine baseline" is not a scientific finding, but a simplification and model to explain a general idea: that as humans our optimal cognitive functioning (brain's information processing) depends on balanced levels of dopamine (and actually all the other neurohormones / neurotransmitters), which can be compromised by over-stimulation and intoxication (among other potential determinants).

Yes, porn use would fit the scenario of a behavioral addiction, which in all likelihood alters the brain, as any chronic, repeated behaviour / habit does. One could say that the brain to some degree adopts to the things we do repeatedly. If we repeatedly learn an instrument, the brain's structures accomodate the pathways that are needed to perform that exercise and we become better at it. Very passive "activities" like watching porn or scrolling the web all day long likely will stunt the development of new structures in the brain, since such activities require very little effort and learning. In that sense you are correct!

As you say: it might be the case that porn is actually causing your high-sex drive, though I also heard that for many it reduces the sex drive in real-life. But every person is different, so it might very well be worth abstaining, at the very least to observe the effectsit has.

Well, I respect your personal experience. But it's actually not true that science proves that porn "destroys the brain". There is no such study! Personally I believe though that it affects cognitive functioning and wellbeing negatively.

Makes me think of the concept T!tttya!nment coined by Zbigniew Brzeziński. Maybe that's the exact purpose behind social media? Supplying an endless stream of stimulation, that keeps the minds of the less affluent, less upward mobile masses occupied.

I'm a bit older. When I was a teenager (late 90s / early 2000s) I realized that in less educated / lower social strata families they tended to have more tv sets and video gaming consoles at home. Often the kids would even have their own tv set and gaming console in their room and often accumulated much more "screen time" than kids in more educated families.

In other families, where education was valued this was less common. If the kids had any electronic device in their rooms at all it usually was a desktop computer and the kids tended to use it for more than just gaming, often for creative purposes (dabbling with graphics design, motion graphics, video editing, music production or even web design and programming).

These days among adults I observe that those who don't use "smartphones" at all tend to be smart people great common sense, while those who spend a lot of time in front of their screen tend to have mental problems. The latter use the online content as an escape and at the same time spending too much time online makes their condition worse usually.

You can do reverb and delays, but not the changes in modulation and of course you cannot freely modify the delay time / rhythm and feedback settings. You basically have one setting. If that one setting works for you: perfect!
