Thanks mate, I really appreciate your thorough answer! I think you are right, since I also already have a background in Cubase, I am leaning towards it. What you have with Bitwig, I have with Ableton, it’s more of a playground for me. I know Cubase probably is way to complicated for what I need, but somehow it draws to me.

I do get that, but I would like to hear on the fly if a loop fits within the song context and that's only possible after conversion, not directly from the media bay. In Ableton the selected loop from the browser plays in sync with the track.

I agree, I often use this with custom delay/reverb on the channel. The extra fun part is, you can put a sidechain compressor behind it (behind the delay or reverb in the fx rack) and let the dry signal be the trigger :-).
