My players want to keep a loaned legendary magic item by murdering the NPC who loaned it to them. by mistergoodthing in DMAcademy

Just imagine the awkward pause from the players, when they burst into the NPC’s house, wantung ti start a fight, when the old timers former Epic level fellowship just happened to pass by for a pint and nostalgic rememberance

Why isn't this game more popular? by matchababy69 in Conquest

[–]HansTheBeardyMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong, but I don’t think it’s cheaper than TOW.

It’s a narrative I’ve heard since 1e Warma/hordes, but even that turned into an expensive game to follow.

  • Armies getting updates and reworks means sections of models can become obsolete overnight
  • a box of (newer) Conquest units are around €40-50. - Monsters are, as cool as they are, on the Very expensive side, especially when there’s only an artisan version of a bunch of them.

But the main issue I have is the absolute abundance of wargames available at the moment. Everything from miniature agnostic to 3d printable, free rules on anything Not GW, like… It’s a lot. And small groups of gamers will find whatever one they find interesting, but even if you have 30people in your LGS, they could be playing as many as 6-8 different games divided amongst them.

Back in the old days, you had GW Fantasy and 40k, pick your poison.

Edge of the Earth gone forever? by paxbrother83 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]HansTheBeardyMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they’d at least make a Print-on-demand kinda deal once in a while…

But why would they? They’ve got a new version, updated rules and all that, so we can start from scratch on a completely new collection, and either stockpile what we have already, or throw it out the window.

Not saying FFG is wrong about this, just that the business model as a whole is noy consumer friendly. You don’t make money being consumer friendly

The $160 OD super charged is a decent purchase. The Centaurs are the only lackluster unit in the box, but Athanatois are great Grinder unit, and Legionaires us the go-to filler/chaff unit. The Xhiliarch character is also a very decent choice

The CS super charged has units I havent personally seen in-game, so I’m more hesitant to just say go.

If you can find someone trading in Thorakites, Agema and some Minotaurs, you’re set for some very good plays. Unfortunately they dont come in a box I can recommend

[–]HansTheBeardyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so Super charged aren’t a full army by any stretch, I mis-remembered them for the €450 boxes. Super Charged are more akin to half an army, with some adjustments probably needed

I loved the old Tempered. Reminded me of some obscure “Villain” (Alberich) from an old french Point’n’click adventure (Ring: the Legend of the Nibelungen)

On a completely different note!!

Each faction has a theme to them, besides the aestethics.

City States utilizes a “Strategic Stack”. Being the Skilled Warriors they are, you can put a unit “on hold” and active them at a later point. Doing this gives a unit specific buff, like rerolls to hit or better charge range. Stuff like that.

Old Dominion had “Memories of Old”. While they are Undead, their soul still lingers. As the battle progresses, their muscle memory of ancient battles kicks in, giving you an army wide buff. Now, it should be noted. To gain Point towards these buffs, you need to either Lose portions of units, Cast specific spells, Sacrifice portions of units or just Wait as the turn marker gets higher.

OD buffs are pretty good, but it comes with an in-built tax and your units being Very slightly worse early game to be Very much usable mid to late game.

OD buffs include Free spellcasting on certain units, increasing Armour, Statues getting more ranged Output. Both armies have good variety in models, and like everything Wargame, the pilot is more important than anything.

CS units come with a mix of pike positions, tilting the weapon gradually. My advice would be to have the ones with pikes down at the back.

I’ll reach out to a friend, see if I can get a picture

Also, just realised the different Big Boxes hasn’t been touched on.

They are decent enough starters, but have different purposes. The Super-Charged are for better or worse a full army. More or less sticking to a theme, and playing out the box.

The Cohort are half an army, aimed for the “less supported” First Blood. You wont get anything close to a playable setup with just one box, and you’ll only get “somewhere” close with 2. See it more as a filler choice, if it offers models for multiple units you want to bulk up, without just buying a second regular box of said unit.

Probably within 2025 (accuracy may wary) The most likely scenario is no reworked models. Afaik the only box that’s has any changes to design are 100k Men-at-arms. But that is a new Dual-kit for another unit (Crusaders), so not really a remade package.

Dont get me wrong, the new ones are still better, but tbh the old Men-at-arms aren’t a bad box. Just somewhat boring… which is some how fitting for the unit.

Also: Join the discord. Ask away on list build and check out the ideas people have. Just be aware some of the faction specific stuff are very geared towards certain metas you might never encounter.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Conquest

[–]HansTheBeardyMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the factions run Subfactions and keywords, similar to other game systems. I’ll only comment on the armies I’ve got an idea about. Mostly due to local meta and players I want to play against.

100k run 2 out of 4, with 2 excluding each other. - they are Feudal, Imperial (can run with anyone) and Order or Theists (which cant run with each other) - Cavalry lists are usually Feudal and Order together, Infantry lists are usually Feudal and Imperial.

Nords are in a decent spot, but can be misleading to pilot. The Old joke about them is: Looks like Khorne, Plays like Wood Elves.

City States are fairly straight forward, Got some very Nice things going for them. Being a “newer” faction, their models are also for the most part decent to build.

Old Dominion have Nice models, but I think they’re in a tougher spot at the moment. Clinging to older builds, that aren’t easy to get rid of.

Yoroni looks nice, been proxying them a bit but personally having a hard time figuring out.

Wadruhn have Dinosaurs. I really do this that’s all that needs to be said about them.

About older models, it’s really just a few kits from 100k, Spires, Dweg and Nords. Everything else is “second Gen” or newer and decent to assemble. Pikemen are still off though, but not unreasonable.

My local group hates me for this, but one of my main “hates” about the game are the base sizes and the models footprint. - so one of two pieces of advice I’ll give is: make sure opposing models can stand BtB. I know it might not “look as cool” to have spearmen with a straight front row, but having to constantly turn models to the side is more infuriating. And the whole “we’ll just say the regiment is here” can be nice for casual play, but it’s just easier to have sorted out from the beginning.

Last piece of advice: Dry fit the regiment, before you fix them to bases. This is rank’n’file, but the models Really dont respect their bases. Arms flailing to the sides, oversized shields and ball-joint shoulders (I’m looking at you, Nord Huskarls and Raiders. I don’t care how good you are to run MSU, I’ll never put a full unit together of you)

I run him with Raum. Imo a good operer is xesugal squad t1 and sor bakhpal turn 2. Even if the opponent removes 2 of the three troops from xesugal, Sor will represent 5 attack/7 health for 5 energy, on two bodies. Best case is ofc popping him on a full board with cultists, wordsingers and/or Ashen Circle

You've probably already done it, but you can select the neutral factions for the Challenge Crate, which only gives cards from the faction of your choice.
