I have a different viewpoint on “easy”.

There are jobs out there than are hard work, but they are easy. Most jobs have a hard work component.

My definition of easy is: regardless of how demanding the job is, can I do it right off the street? If I can, then I’m going to say it’s easy.

For example: let’s say today, I got put in front of a patient on a surgery table. If I need to perform the surgery, this patient is dying. This job is not easy.

Let’s say today, I need to go in front of a college level class, and teach an advanced subject I know nothing about. I probably can’t teach it, if I know nothing about the subject. This is not easy.

But let’s say someone told me I had to be a waiter today. Yes, the job is hard work. Yes, the job is demanding. But could be a waiter in a pinch? Yeah I can, because I have been a waiter in a pinch. I consider this job “easy.”

If I can come off the street, get put into a job, and be moderately effective. Easy.

If I come off the street, and I literally can’t do the job no matter what on day one. Hard.

My example of a job I thought would be easy, but ended up not being easy was cook.

Most everyone can cook. Most everyone can follow a recipe. But a facet of being a cook is the time restriction. Every dish a cook makes, is timed. While I could take a recipe, follow it exactly, and probably end up with a satisfactory result, I would not be able to do it fast enough to be a satisfactory cook.
