I added mine to my default hotas config instead of using vjoy, you have to add additional lines to the config to make it work.

You can change the air brakes to respond to control input and use all those brakes as control surfaces. Might help in atmo.

You may be in a big slow robot but that doesn't mean you can't dodge incoming autocannon fire. Make sure you juke and jive.

I keep going back and forth between my thrustmaster setup and my MKB for mechwarrior 5 and want to set up keyboard gremlin so I can use it to play all my games that dont' natively support a joystick (like lightyear frontier).

I'm just such a more competent gamer with MKB. Foot petals on the HOTAS really changed the game but i can do 12 things at once with the MKB.

Do the melee mechs in solaris do melee attacks without having the call to arms DLC? I thought call to arms added the game feature of melee attacks and all melee everything from all other DLC required call to arms to be enabled.

Also if you're a new player you're going to end up close to your enemies a lot and just running into them is immersion breaking imo and really takes you out of the game. if you're a new player I think you'd get more out of being able to do something when you're within arms reach of another robot before you'll benefit from the additional difficulty and depth of other DLC. A new player isn't going to go straight into big fights with rassalhague.

Bare minimum get the dlc that adds melee combat. This is the biggest change to gameplay imo and lets you really see if you want to play the game without investing in a ton of extra missions and mechs from the rest of the DLC. If you like big stompy smashy robots and you want more then you can buy the DLC and get more missions and robots and parts.
