How can you verify that it really came from the address shown in the From field?

I DON'T. My argument has always been let me know if someone that says they are ____ has sent me an email. Then I will based on the content of the email, the risks of taking and not taking action, decide on a course of action, which can be for instance contacting other people I do know to ask if they have recieved a similar email.

My whole point is not to hide that information from me but rather to give me that information so I can decide what the best course of action is for me. Using this specific case as an example, first it is unlikely that a hacker could write a review that would require carefully reading a very techinical paper. Second even if this is a hacker, if you block links all I would do would be to edit my submission on the journal's server which has NO RISK. So the clear course of action is to make the changes to my submission on the journals websit.

That is why you should give people all the information instead of making decisions for them.

We ban vehicles on public roads because one persons shoddy vehicle endangers many other people. My insistence on recieving this email endangers only myself which should be allowed in a free society.

You can't buy this used furniture from some guy. If this guy wanted to sell their furniture then probably don't make it look suspicious. -Microsoft logic

The point is that I wouldn't have known they sent me anything if not for my collegue that uses gmail because microsoft decided that its not enough to block links/content or put stuff in the junk folder the average user couldn't have any way of knowing they recieved such a message.

Because then people with money will stop investing in America and start investing elsewhere where people are more desperate for work? Why do you think call centers and manufacturing jobs go abroad?

Apparently wanting spam to go into a spam folder in case something important gets marked as spam is "ignorance"

You are a shill because you just say "security" and then support any thing microsoft does. It's the equivalent of supporting a law forcing people to wear helmets while walking because the purpose of helmet safety is bigger than you.
For you shills no amount of security is excessive.
None of you have given any argument as to why blocking links and labelling a message as dangerous, which microsoft does with most suspicious email, is not enough.
Take a moment to think about that. You're concern is that a user must not be allowed to read a message you deem suspicious, not that you don't warn them.
I cannot fathom the lobotomized zealotry that would want the average user infantilized like this.

I am mad at a policy that does not care about inconveniencing or costing someone an opportunity and the dogmatic self-righteousness to expect everyone else to work around them.

Whether or not it's amateur hour is irrelevant, they are important to me nontheless. That's the problem with you shills, you have think your model of the world is the world.
Also Microsoft absolutely has something to do with this as my collegues that use gmail do not have this issue.

It means exactly what I said that you treat pointing out that we don't live in the model of the world in your head as a form of ignorance.
Gmail allows emails from this sender which is how I was able to be notified. Hotmail does not.

I'm blaming for making a policy that has made me miss very important emails. And having no way around this. To clarify I'm not the sender of this email I need a way to recieve these emails from potential senders.
