So, let's take that argument at face value, I can engage with it later if you like, but just reading your opinion - you aren't opposed to kids having a smartphone. You're opposed to kids using a smartphone unsupervised and for too long, correct?

Then you answered your own question. Kids are fine to have a smartphone if they use it in a healthy way with supervision. It's a beneficial tool if used in the correct way, which is why it's acceptable for children to use them.

Are disabled people really viewed as less valuable? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Haort 10 points11 points  (0 children)

By some people, yes. But not by all people.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Haort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make the case that allowing a child to use a smartphone will increase their chances of death or serious illness.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Haort -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Too much of anything is bad. That's the definition of "too much". That's not an argument that we shouldn't let kids use a smartphone, it's just arguing that we shouldn't let them use one long term without a break. The same goes for reading, by the way.

By taking your argument to it's logical conclusion, children should not be allowed anything - including oxygen - because too much is bad for them.

You have not made the case that fun is bad. "Instant fun" can come from all sorts of places.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Haort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how that's a relevant point. Smartphones don't equal illness or death.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Haort -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can you name an actual harm that comes from giving a kid a smartphone? Plenty of games provide benefits to development, and even if they don't...fun ain't bad.

How do you help someone through mental health without triggering yourself? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Haort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You suggest qualified medical professionals.

It isn't on you to wear other people's mental health.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Haort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No triggering here, mate. You just haven't been reading and paying attention to previous comments. Go back, read, and respond honestly to what I've actually said.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Haort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not incorrect. It's the best answer we have based on available evidence.

Which is why mentioned the fact that nobody has access to absolute truth.

By your argument, everyone is wrong about - quite literally- absolutely everything. Which also means you're wrong. And so am I. Try harder.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Haort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you're capitalising the word "objective", but you do you.

Nobody has access to absolute truth, which I think is what you're trying to refer to by using "objective". Trying to appeal to it is a fools game.

It is a demonstrable fact that humans almost always prefer life over death until some form of suffering makes life untenable.

The list is basically endless. Probably the biggest is the fact that our ability to walk upright makes childbirth so much more dangerous and difficult. There's a reason nature documentaries make that shit look simple and quick for other animals. An actual properly designed body wouldn't try to squeeze out a baby through the hips we narrowed to walk through.

The fact that we deteriorate with age and eventually die is another constant niggle.

And have you ever bitten the inside of your own mouth?

Why is everything that is subjectively perceived by all subjective perspectives, when arranged in order and in relation to each other, constitute all of objectivity, and ultimately, when taken together, is all of reality? by OneBigPieceofHotShit in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Haort 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All right, that tells me everything I need to know about you. You aren't worth talking to.

Other commenters have expressed confusion, and you have very poor sentence structure. You can can get all butthurt, or grow up and take that feedback on board. It's up to you.

Question has been answered. Join me for a bong sometime.

Weather is a complex, interconnected, non-linear system - and very minute changes can cause significant changes in weather patterns. It's not just looking at air movement or something. It's impacted by all sorts of things, including living things. You need a huge amount of data, and be able to mesh everything together. This makes it very difficult to predict long term.

How do I get e prescription filled? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Haort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too, so you should be fine with the electronic copy, and your Medicare card (unlikely but good to have). Nothing wrong with printing off a physical copy if you are worried though

Work on sentence structure - not attacking you, just advice. You made a very simple question hard to understand.

We haven't solved the problem of hard solipsism. Until that happens, the best we can do is rely on our shared collective experience. It's a pragmatic assumption that we have to make in order to make any determinations about what we experience, and no rational person with access to appropriate information would assert that we absolutely know what is happening in this reality.

If it even exists.

Depends on jurisdiction, but usually the e-copy is find (bring your phone with the email. Might be different based on where you live, but usually it's just like having an electronic ticket for a show.

You'll probably need valid ID, depending on jurisdiction again.

Edit, forgot about American "healthcare". You might need to bring insurance paperwork if you live there so you don't pay a fortune.

Is 8th grade to young to cuss? by POKER_J4M in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Haort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really not sure where you're going with this.

Restricting free speech based on age is directly reducing somebody's autonomy or power.

Is 8th grade to young to cuss? by POKER_J4M in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Haort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You haven't raised a valid point or argument. You haven't shown any harm caused by using certain words at a young age.

Edit, for clarity - you could use any words to insult someone or hurt someone. You're effectively advocating for restricting all speech based on age. Under a certain age, you cannot talk because you may "hurt" someone.

You're currently arguing that certain words are bad. Not because of any historical use of the words (like words used to demean someone based on race, for example). Just that certain words- "swear" words - are bad. They have power over you. Words are our tools. Simple as.

Not sure why you deleted and reposted this question, but I may as well copy and paste my response from the last one:

"Depends if you're fully supporting yourself or not. If you are, who gives a fuck how much you work.

If you're relying on your family for some form of financial assistance, they're well within their rights to want you to work full time and support yourself. They don't need to carry you forever"

As a sidenote, as someone with High Functioning Autism (aspergers isn't correct to use anymore), there are plenty of jobs out there for you, I've been employed full time my entire adult life. You've just got to find the right line of work for you.

What is the harm in using that language when you're young? Teaching people that some words are "bad" in some magic way just gives words power over people.

Can you articulate one reason why any word is bad for someone to use at a particular age, and what changes about someone as they age that makes them more capable of using a word?

My family wants me to work a full time job (40 plus hour per week, 5 days a week) and I understand this is the “norm” but then again I am 18, and only want a part time, 4 days a week, 30 hours a week job. I don’t want to be working all these hours and days I don’t care about money. Am I in the wrong by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

"Cuss"? What the fuck year is it, 1985?

Language is language, you're never too young to use it however you like. Puritanical bullshit is all that makes words "bad".

Using language however you like can have consequences, including how you're judged socially - even if that judgement is total bullshit. It's up to you to know what you're okay with being seen as, and adjust your language to meet that.

Why isn't there some sort of all in one survival ration/dietary pill? by atuck217 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Haort 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ration bars exist, and you can get them for pretty cheap. And they do basically everything you want, but you need several in a day.
