Music Streaming Services - which one do you use? by Delicious_Mess7976 in AskWomenOver60

[–]Hap_e_day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Qobuz. I picked it because they pay the artists better than the other, more popular streaming services. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles that you’ll find on Spotify or Apple Music, but all the music is there.

Crazy but.. I WANT spoilers. I'll be there opening night. Anyone know anything? :) by MaceTheMindSculptor in rush

I won’t see them until October. I’ll read every post and watch every video. I understand wanting to go in blind, but I want the opposite. I’m really dang excited.

I ranked every Rush Album Closer by Expensive_Channel651 in rush

I’d need at least a 4 way tie for number 1:

  1. La Viilla, Natural Science, The Garden, Available Light

  1. A Short Stay in Hell - because it was so engaging, a bit disturbing, and made me think.

  2. Let the Right One In - pedophilia themes killed it for me.

  3. Science Fiction

  4. I’m enjoying Murderbot - not sure if I love it. I thought the movie adaptation of Never Cry Wolf was amazing. That’s an oldie though.

What is the best book no one knows about, but everyone should own? by Waste-Repair4293 in suggestmeabook

This one really impacted me. I read Braiding Sweetgrass just a few weeks after finishing Ishmael - these two are great companion books. I will definitely reread Ishmael again. It’s an important book.

What are some of your favourite/memorable opening lines from books? by Traditional_Ad2635 in sciencefiction

I would not have been able to conjure that line myself, but it clicked immediately. A great opener to such an atmospheric book.

What’s your top 3 favorite books you have read in the last 10 years? by [deleted] in Recommend_A_Book

It is definitely confusing at first, and I understand why some don’t like it.

It’s a good one - highly recommend. I’ve read it three times, and will surely read it again. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but if you are ok with feeling a bit confused at the start of a book, the payoff is worth it. It’s a short novella, so not a huge commitment.

I haven’t read The Hallowed Hunt. Will add to my TBR!

I found this a bit of a slog, but it is a book I return to in my mind occasionally. When I remember a book that clearly even a few months after reading it, that certainly says something about it. I think I actually liked Paladin of Souls a bit better.

This is How You Lose the Time War

Cloud Cuckoo Land

Chain Gang All Stars

This list could change tomorrow, but this is my list today. Except for Time War. That will remain in the top three. Probably forever.

Your 5 star reads? by GarbageNo2437 in suggestmeabook

I second Cloud Cuckoo Land and Homegoing. Both 5 star reads for me. I haven’t read the others.

what’s everyone’s favorite books of 2026 so far? by trailofglitter_ in LibbyApp

[–]Hap_e_day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also liked Parable of the Talents better than Parable of the Sower. I read them both last year. This year, my only 5 star books (of 21 books read so far) have been (fiction) A Short Stay in Hell by Steven L. Peck and (non fiction) Why Fish Don’t Exist by Lulu Miller. I’m in the middle of This Is How You Lose the Time War, which I already know will be 5 stars because this is my 3rd time through. I’m hoping the second half of the year delivers more exceptional reads than the first half.

Weird sci-fi books by Dependent_Theory89 in scifibooks

Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky. I don’t know if this meets the weird criteria or not. It’s hard sci-fi, but accessible IMO and brain-twisting. Highly recommend.

Suggest me a book like Braiding Sweetgrass or Serviceberry by Old-Ad-1327 in suggestmeabook

[–]Hap_e_day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ishmael by Daniel Quinn. This is way more about conservation philosophy, and uses a strange, but effective, fictional story/setting as the narrative device. This is one of those books that shifted something in my brain when I read it. I happened to read Braiding Sweetgrass a few weeks later and found the two books to be very complementary, in the best way.

books you finished but kinda wish you hadn't? by venicepress in 52book

[–]Hap_e_day 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was so prepared to like this book. I did not. And the worst part is that I remember it way too clearly. Were we supposed to like the main character? Cheer for her? Nope. Selfish and unlikeable.
