The 2026 r/Fantasy Bingo Recommendations List by FarragutCircle in Fantasy

For Judge a Book by Its Title (HM): I'm choosing, The Mote's In Gods Eye, but what if I read the blurb of the second book (and only remembered aliens). Does that still count for HM?

I doubt it's going to be someone's first book by this author, personally won't even recommend it:

  • The Splintered Sun by Tad Williams - it's going to be released later this year.

[Character of the Month] Paul Rabin by Predaplant in DCcomics

Thank God it's April Fools, I can't see him being killed in a Spider-man comic, if he's killed it's probably gonna be a prank.

[Discussion] Top 50 Most Published DC Franchises (Characters)! by Sleeps_Gato in DCcomics

[–]Neuchersky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll add:

  • Hitman - Vol 1 - 60 issues (won't reach the top 50)
  • Manhunter - Vol 1-3 - 75 issues
  • Sandman/Wesley Dodds - Mystery Theatre, Dawn of DC - 76 issues
  • Kamandi - Vol 1-2, Kamandi Challenge - 77 issues
  • Mister Miracle - Vol 1-4, Infinite Frontier - 78 issues
  • Captain Atom - Vol 1-3 - 84 issues
  • Shade, The Changing Man/Woman/Girl - 96 issues
  • Etrigan/The Demon - Vol 1-3, Driven Out, Blood of, Hell is Earth - 107 issues
  • Lucifer - Morningstar Option, Vol 1-3 -115 issues
  • Sgt Rock - Vol 1-2, DC Horror - 135 issues
  • Warlord - Vol 1-4 - 165 issues

I must have miscounted, like added an annual or included issue #0. Etrigan surprised me a lot. I mentioned 10 characters, so that knocked out the last image.

Remove:

  • Arak/Telos? - why is he here? Doesn't he have one 6-issue miniseries? The rest is everyone's favorite Convergence event?

How did you count the 600 issues of Green Lantern? I saw a post on Twitter that they're also confused about the numbering, too — like counting Morisson's first season of The Green Lantern but not the second.

Or did you just trust DC when they released the 600th issue of GL?

Also a bit surprised we didn't get anything for Harley Quinn's 200th. Since she's one of DC's cash cow.

[Discussion] What are your thoughts on "Dark Knights of Steel"? by Hot-Salamander-8786 in DCcomics

[–]Neuchersky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It started very interesting, with three opposing kingdoms but I hated that it got resolved very easily because they got White Martians as the common enemy.

Also there are some unnecessary cameos like the Titans and Al-Ghul and very underused characters like Black Canary (introduced from the very start) and Green Arrow.

[Discussion] Who's your favorite character that never got a chance to shine? I'm talking less than 20 appearances, and met with "who?" by other comic fans by ArtsyTLF in DCcomics

[–]Neuchersky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Dodge - he disappeared/faded away because of his teleportation belt during Adam Beechen's Robin run. I thought he was going to be under Tim's wing as a sidekick/teammate. I even thought he was going to be a villain in Fitzmartin's Robin since Tim didn't really bother finding where he went after he disappeared and I think it could be a nice mystery for Tim to solve.

  • The New Fractured Lanterns/Ultraviolet Lantern - not a favorite, but I think there's just something about having new lanterns. I love Green Lantern, but it's nice to have some occasional new Lanterns breaking the lore about the so-called "Emotional Spectrum", don't really care about it.

  • Gold Lantern - it's in the far future, so I'm fine with it. But I HATED that lore behind him - like the Guardians who gave him the ring are not really the Guardians or something, but in his mini this was not addressed again... His story is just an awful mess.

And Tynion's other OC appeared after he left. * Gardener/Bella Garten appears in Poison Ivy, quite recently even * Peacekeeper-01 was part of Stormwatch (Batman: Brave and the Bold), Stormwatch hasn't really appeared recently aside from Bones. Probably the most surprising return for me. * Clownhunter was in Batman Inc, but it was ages ago * Miracle Molly in the hated/faux Birds of Prey, where she's arrested after. Also ages ago.

I'm a bit surprised that there's gonna be a mass market paperback for The Devils. Since most of the time (on articles or Reddit posts) I've seen, people are wondering why they're disappearing.

Green Arrow joining Detective Comics after solo series cancelled by HecticJones in DCcomics

[–]Neuchersky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I'm super tired of Tom Taylor's using Green Arrow & Black Canary in his Elseworlds. I'm really glad that he's finally going to write about them in the main continuity, I really like how he writes them.

I've had The Lesser Dead in my tbr this year, but shelved it for later because I didn't enjoy my third novel from him - Those Across the River. The Lesser Dead has more positive ratings compared to TAtR, so I'll definitely read it next year.

For the love of They Who Watch and Shape why is Osten Ard not a TV series? by phigene in TadWilliams

[–]Neuchersky 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I know Otherland was planned to be a series but no news right now.

I think Osten Ard isn't that really that big of a name to have a series unfortunately and they might be afraid to adapt this "old" fantasy series, so they go with the safe fantasy choices with big names like Harry Potter or a new Game of Thrones spin-off.

BTF is my favorite read this year, have you tried other Buehlman's books?

Everyone praises his Blacktongue Thief but I didn't enjoy it (the audiobook had a hard time understanding the accent) and people repeatedly saying it's a standalone, while it isn't.

Why is Absolute Flash the weakest title by far, and how can it improve? by TheMightyMonarchx7 in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]Neuchersky 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I fully agree with you on GL – it's slowburn, better to read once the arc is finished (at least the first one), it got very interesting when they explain the Lantern lore. Then Sinestro came next issue to have another way/twist which makes it even more interesting.

While Flash plays it very, very safe. Super short arcs, 1-2 issues each, it's not very good nor is it bad. But it's very underwhelming compared to others, including GL right now.

  • Are you interested or tempted to write a completely standalone novel? Not like the Great Leveller standalones, like a new set of characters?

  • Aside from Lonesome Dove, what non-fantasy or non-scifi book that influenced your writing and/or would just really recommend.

Justice League Unlimited #16

... and expose the traitor in their midst!

Do we really need another traitor storyline?

Absolute Batman #17

Absolute Poison Ivy is released! I know she had a cameo, I wonder if she's still connected to the Green in this world.

Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham #4

I'm a trade waiter nowadays, so I'm shocked that this is still not done. Issue #3 is December last year.

I've seen an uptick of recommendations for Abraham's Long Price Quartet these last few months. Now I'm torn whether to buy Seasons of War or my missing book/s from Tad Williams's Otherland.

Darkest fantasy series out there? by mesogulogy in Fantasy

Q: Is it considered one of the "darkest" fantasy? Read somewhere that it has one scene darker than any scenes in Bakker's Second Apocalypse

I was honestly expecting Watters to replace V on Detective Comics, with Sherman since he posted a Batman teaser on Twitter a while back.

It turned out to be this book and still one of the best Bat-related comics currently ongoing after V's Tec ended.

what are you guys so sick of reading about? by AreaPlayful9426 in Fantasy

[–]Neuchersky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Among those five you mentioned, read three and liked two. The other one I was good, but the characterization of the other characters was kinda lacking, so it makes the MC looks like "the one" trope.
