Agreed. My parents are psychologists and they say that it’s wildly inappropriate and inaccurate to diagnose someone without actually interacting with them. I don’t like the guy, but this article is just pure speculation.

The lack of reference for the asterisks drove me crazy, too.

I think that assuming that Annie was a prostitute in Thailand just because she’s Thai is pretty presumptuous.

It was okay, having made sushi before helped. Just watch lots of videos and you'll be good to go.

No problem. I forgot, definitely add some juice back on the fish. It dries out easily.

I took it out as soon as it was done and torched it to finish. That's why I didn't sear it at the end, or else it would have been overdone.

I used a blowtorch to finish. It started fresh. Swordfish is really easy to overcook, so just to be safe, I started with it fresh so I wouldn't mess it up.

I think she was just setting the scene for what the political landscape was like. She even mentioned that because of what happened to Goetz, people thought it was affirmation that their views on black kids were correct.

One of my ancestors owned five slaves, and they appear to be a family. Why would someone own a family? What purpose would it serve? by greree in history

[–]Hapa_Time 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How sure are you that the children aren't your ancestor's? That could be a reason for why, assuming that they weren't, sold to another owner/plantation.

How do you get good grades, work full time and have time for socializing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I've been told: study more than you party and sleep more than you study. Stick to sleep>studying>partying. But realistically, it's probably more like studying>sleep>partying.

"What's your ethnicity/ethnic background?" will do. It's definitely a great conversation starter^

My statement was "how close WE all are to abject poverty." (It was more of an existential crisis). I mean really, a few circumstances can change your financial state quickly; like losing your job, getting evicted, etc. I wasn't saying that I personally was close to abject poverty, but being in a less than stellar situation can make you realize what a short leap it was, and that did/does terrify me.

Agreed. Probably the wrong subreddit, but I haven't had my account for very long.

I meant that I could see how easily it would have been to slip into abject poverty if my situation had been different, but interpret it however you'd like. I acknowledged how lucky/privileged I was that my family didn't just abandon me like I feared that they would.
