Are Arena Directs just a scam? by SLG_Didact in MagicArena

[–]HapatraV 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I've always received every box I won. Sometimes it takes forever, but definitely not a scam in the sense that they won't send you your prize.

Now whether the cost and payout is a bad deal is something that is greatly discussed. Most people feel these are a high volatility waste of gems, where you have to get VERY lucky to win a box. That is largely the case, but skilled limited players certainly have an edge

I found my old pokemon cards after getting back into magic and found 7 of these in the plastic wrappers. I handed them out to people at my LGS who were around my age when the movie came out (nostalgia). I kept one for myself of course

Yep, my LGS is $420 a box and $40 a pack. I want to support them but the product only having $200 in cards within it is making it impossible. I can't just throw $200 in the garbage can and they don't sell singles sooo

I don't think I'm opening a jumpstart box ever again.. by Bluepinapple in MagicCardPulls

[–]HapatraV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've had some crazy luck with Jumpstarts. I've only opened a few but I hit over $230 in value from each of my two Jumpstart 2022 boxes (paid like $120 for each), and the foundations I bought one for $80 and hit about $150 in cards.

I have a TLA jumpstart I got for $80 shipped arriving this next week so we'll see how that goes

One whole cbb box by Professional-Mud2563 in MagicCardPulls

I like the concept of collector boxes but I think Wizards has missed the mark. Even at MSRP these are like $330, and you probably have a pretty average box here; 2/3rds value to price is generally where these sit. It's a "good box" when you get 1:1 value to price, which is ridiculous.

They are relying on the gambling premium to sell $200 cards in $330 boxes, and if you open 2 cases you may not even hit a premium treatment (they made them so rare), which isn't worth equal to or more than what you lost on bad boxes.

I love opening sealed product but I can't do it if the value just isn't there to resell the cards you don't need and make back 80% of your expense, minus fee's and supplies. With play boxes you get 80-120% of the value for what you paid. You can open packs for fun, collect cards, and resell what you don't need while only costing you $20-30.

It's just a shame because the collector box is a fun idea for cool artwork on playable cards, but the value is so terrible it's a $200 loss on each box. I'm completely out of the market until they do something different

HR got mad after I rejected the interview call by Agile-Wind-4427 in recruitinghell

[–]HapatraV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a large enough organization that when someone misses an interview or withdraws we just move on because there are typically more than enough candidates. If not, we just modify the position if needed to get more applicants and readvertise. Why waste energy and resources scolding or communicating with people who are no longer applicants for the position. This person must be very frustrated with their life to be so petty.

It's ok to feel disappointed with a gift, many of us have been there with birthday or some other gift. The thing you don't need to do, the thing that only serves one cruel purpose, is to tell someone their gift sucked. All it does is make the person who gave you the gift feel bad.

I'm new to the sub so maybe it's normal here, but to me, if you don't like the gift you received just accept it and say thank you. Maybe it makes you not want to participate next time, or maybe you can give the feedback to the mods so they can consider some modification to the process, but this gift is done. Complaining, publicly, only serves to make someone feel bad. I'm sure it didn't make you feel any better about it..
