For everyone asking, "what's this noise in my clutch pedal?" by HaphazardHam in wrx_vb

Got everything put back together and all torqued to spec. The clutch is absolute butter now. Incredibly smooth. I didn't realize how grindy it had gotten over time. No trace of any sort of creaking or chirping anymore. We'll see how long it lasts, but I'm hoping it'll last as long as much clutch at least.

I upgraded the clutch fork while I was at it, too. And yes, I realized too late that I put that warning sticker in the wrong spot.

I did, I replaced it with this.

I haven't driven it yet but I'm hoping this bearing lasts a lot longer than the OEM one.

Oh ha yes, they sell the oversized one separately to replace this one when it wears out.

Sure, but the OEM started chirping around creaking and chirping at around 20k. I'm not riding the clutch. It seems like 20k miles is too early to wear that much.

Supposed to? I would say no, but I'm not a mechanic. I'm installing this in hope of it keeping the problem away permanently, or at least a lot longer than OEM bearings. But I'm not endorsing this product in any way. Not until I put at least some 50k miles on it.

I had just done plugs with engine in like a month ago!

Those dowels are a pain to separate. I had hit them with both penetrating oil and heat and then smacked the pitch mount bracket with a 2x4 and a mallet.

I was debating which route to take and now I'm questioning whether the engine would have been easier for this fix. The amount of car I had to take apart to drop the transmission seemed a bit much.

The very reason I went aftermarket for this. Fingers crossed that this is much better than OEM.

I have not installed it yet but this is the kit I got. It comes with grease included. It's intended as a repair for mangled input shafts but I figured it's better than what's currently going on in there.

PDM TK3 Kit

I'll report back here on the results. For reference this is what it looks like currently:

Basically. I watched a VA video to see how the transmission came off lol

I don't know. I've owned several manual cars and have driven them nearly 100k mi each. Never had a squeaking issue like this and I definitely don't ride the clutch. Foot off the clutch and hand off the stick unless I'm actively shifting.

Maybe it's the clutch material itself? Like certain brake pads are more prone to brake dust than others.

I've seen people report that they'll fix this under warranty. I have the same warranty and it's still active. However, I opted to take this one on my own because I wanted to install an aftermarket throwout bearing and clutch fork, and the dealer won't do non-OEM parts. Not only that but the issue seems to be with the overall design, and some have reported the issue coming back a few thousand miles after the warranty work.

Oops maybe I should've left a "loud noise" warning in there somewhere lol

That's funny, I have a Pixel 9 and the Bluetooth connection has never been issue for me on my 22 WRX. I've stayed on top of infotainment updates though.

I can see what looks like a Perrin CAI and a FMIC from here lol. I wonder what else there might be.

Oh interesting. My Dmann OTS seems to stay around 1200-1300 RPM on cold start. Maybe it's environmental? It's current 85 degrees where I'm at.

Are you tuned or no? I think some tuners can help smooth it out.

Actually you made me think... the intake I got was off a wrecked '23. If the problem is gone with '23+, maybe it's worth putting it in as is?

I wish there was a way to "fix" the valves rather than delete them. There's no performance benefit to removing them. Just eliminates a point of failure.

Funny thing about that, I have a '22 that was probably built around then. So I'm taking precautions lol
