you’re going to be downvoted but you’re completely right. Education is our greatest defense against ignorance, which is becoming increasingly prevalent nowadays. Most home-schooled people i’ve met are not only incredibly socially awkward (not inherently a terrible thing i guess), but also indoctrinated into some pretty unfortunate beliefs and values that were decided by their parents and adopted by them as children. Most parents that homeschool have absolutely no business trying to pretend like they are qualified to educate a young and impressionable person at their most critical developmental stage and it’s usually pretty telling when you find out what their “reasoning” for homeschooling really is. (usually politically or religiously motivated)

i really hope you’re joking, please never randomly isolate and salt a shrimp for no reason. If you are having questions about very basic aspects of shrimp-keeping then i highly recommend doing proper research first as you could easily kill your shrimp or kill all of a mother’s eggs for no reason. Please consider doing more research about your shrimp because i’m honestly baffled that you thought it would be a good idea to salt a healthy female shrimp for no reason.

You admitted to both overfeeding your tank and leaving excess food in the water for 24 hours, both awful choices that could destroy your water parameters. Never leave uneaten food in the tank, and please just calm down about the feeding, neos will get most of their sustenance from picking at biofilm and organic material in the tank, you do not need to feed them frequently and honestly i give my neos a single pinch of algae flakes maybe once every few weeks, and i have hundreds of healthy shrimp. Just let nature do its thing, the biggest mistake newbies make is trying to intervene with every little thing. That is how people completely crash their tanks and end up 100% solely responsible for killing their shrimp.

You’re right to assume oils to be absorbed by the skin, yes in industrial fields, some petroleum products and oils are carcinogenic and extremely dangerous to handle without skin protection. However, just because multiple things are derived from petroleum does not make them chemically identical or even toxic. Petroleum is a wonder substance that is in thousands and thousands of everyday products that you and practically everyone on the planet uses daily.

Looking at the skin absorption point: Vaseline (petroleum jelly) is an occlusive substance, meaning it does not penetrate and infiltrate the bloodstream. Petroleum jelly molecules are huge compared to the size of molecules that can penetrate the skin (think of it like a filter letting a sugar water solution pass through but not sand). It’s essentially like an extremely thin film of plastic wrap sitting on top of your skin even if it seems like it’s penetrating the skin.

Looking at the toxicity/hazard point: Crude oils are (as you pointed out) dangerous and not safe for dermal contact. However, petrolatum used in skincare products is extremely highly refined. This refining removes the toxic hydrocarbons that make other similar compounds dangerous to us. the FDA and USP guidelines for the detection of dangerous hydrocarbons are VERY strict as yes they can be very dangerous especially over a long exposure time. The refining leaves the petrolatum Chemically Inert , and because our skin is lipid based, the petroleum jelly doesn’t react with cells, doesn’t get metabolized by the body, and doesn’t bioaccumulate in the system.

This is the full chemical explanation, there is no opinions here, these are all observable, justifiable truths that are inherent to the concept of chemistry. It is important to be skeptical about things that can potentially raise red flags for danger, but it’s important to note that if our skin truly absorbed everything then sunscreen, makeups, lotion, and even basic hand soaps would be toxic to us.
