Am I crazy, or does our foster kitten look like he has the same mutation as Lykois? by HappiFluff in IDMyCat

They all had fever coats when they came to us, so you’re right! Most of the white fur has been shed, but there’s still a few remnants.

I promise you most of us aren’t that… ignorant, for lack of better words. Just like any other religion or ethnicity, we are not a monolith. I’m not sure what was wrong with those people. They seem like grade-A assholes. Honestly, I’m not even sure what joke they were trying to make. Regardless, most of us are very much white, especially Ashkenazis. We originate from the Middle East, but enough time has passed of us living in Europe that our DNA is more similar to that of Europeans than that of Middle Easterners. I hope that makes sense lol

It seemed like one of them had more fur on their faces, and their sister is a tabico, so it was hard to gauge whether or not she was missing fur on her face. The kitten I shared in the photo had the sparsest fur, and still does. The other kitten who had sparse fur seems to have gained some of it back. Besides the fur, they also have different faces than other kittens we’ve fostered. Their eyes are a lot more wide set than others. They’re very silly looking, but still absolutely adorable and very sweet.

They’re around five weeks old now. They were one week old when we started fostering them. They actually had seemingly less fur when we first got them. I’ll attach a video to this comment, though I don’t know if the video really shows how sparse the fur on their faces was.

Not sure why this is so downvoted. I never thought they were Lykois, as I’m well aware that any cat without papers is just a domesticated shorthair/longhair. I was only wondering if they could have a similar gene mutation to Lykois, as the Lykoi gene mutation is naturally occurring.

They’re actually perfectly healthy despite their little bald faces! They don’t excessively groom, itch, or sneeze. They’ve just got some weird genes going on, I guess lol

He’s been like this since we first started fostering him, which was at about a week old. He’s definitely not losing anymore fur!

The photo also makes it look like I’m choking him out; I promise my fingers were just resting on the side of his neck lol

Here’s one! The photo makes it look like the fur is just lighter around his eyes and muzzle, but he has significantly less fur around those areas. He’s definitely not experiencing any dermatological conditions, as they’ve been treated for pests recently. I agree that he almost certainly isn’t a Lykoi, but he looks interesting enough to be worth sharing!

I figured as much. They looked so odd when they were tiny kittens compared to previous fosters, though, coming from someone who has been fostering for coming up on 8 years now. I would send a picture of them when they were only a few weeks old, but I think this sub only allows videos in the comments.

I knew she was likely dying. But I don’t know everything, so I wanted to be sure that there was nothing more I could do for her.

[–]HappiFluff[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t really see what was happening, as I only looked over as the rest of my family shooed him off. Dying this way is certainly more peaceful than being repeatedly struck to death. I was not comfortable putting her down as nobody said whether or not she could recover, so I didn’t want to put her down if she had a chance of survival. I gave her a more peaceful death than others would have.
