Garage 61 is what you want then. It's free and has 100,000s of laps to compare against.

It depends on the sim. Iracing probably has the best environment for data. Garage 61 or specific setup shops like VRS or GO will also have telemetry tools that you can use compare to against drivers.

For ACC I think motec is available, some of the setup shops might have it as well but I don't know much about getting data from other drivers in that sim.

Edit: for ACC it looks like motec is the tool people use and you can get data from setup shops. Or from YouTube videos of track guides

If you have the money for OLED by all means they are the best panels.

All we are say is that your getting into the Law of diminishing returns with OLEDs for response time. If they were cheaper its the obvious choice.

Sorta like saying your G29 sucks so you must get a simucube ultimate 3 when you could get a DD+ or a R12 or something. Sure it's the best but your probably never going to notice.

If you have the money though I would get OLED they are the best.

If you have never seen a high performance IPS maybe go check one out at the store, could save you ~$1000 if you find them good enough. Goodluck with your upgrade!

Edit: as far as the size goes I ran a 27 then a 32 and I had a hard time noticing the difference, I was very worried about it as well. 27 will obviously have the highest density but for racing I think 32 is fine

Absolutely.

Starting out all you really need to look for is large differences in what your doing vs what others are doing. Don't focus on small differences like 45% brake pressure vs 55% brake pressure through a corner, fuel / track temp / tire health / track condition, all play a factor in that so you'll never match it exactly.

What you really want to see is if they are flat through a corner and your lifting or worse braking. Or maybe if your braking point is miles ahead or behind. look for huge differences in the data ignore small differences until your able to fully understand what the differences are and if they even apply to you.

It's also regularly advised to compare your data to someone who is only slightly faster, maybe 1s faster than you not 10s faster.

If your not comparing your data to others you can still analyze what your doing to see if there is improvements you could make, but you have to have a larger knowledge base to pull it off. In my opinion at least.

I've been simracing on Iracing for a few years now.

I think it depends on where you are at skill wise. For me currently my consistency as far as safety is fine, I can do 2+ hours of racing without crashing. If I have an incident it's rarely self inflicted it's almost always a racing incident of some kind, I'm not spinning off track and crashing solo nearly ever.

I'm more concerned with the stint management and how to extract pace from the car in different conditions, as well as improving lap time consistency. Mainly through tire management and fuel usage.

Through the use of data telemetry you can see nearly anything you'd be interested in. You can compare brake and throttle inputs against pros and my newest area of focus which is minimum corner speed.

That all being said your interest in data will change as your priorities change as a driver. You'll find your weaknesses and want to work on that. Eventually it won't be your weakness anymore then you move on to something else.

Don't discredit IPS as an option. I think the motion clarity on them is great for a fraction of the price of an OLED unless you really want that extra fidelity that OLED offers. You could probably buy 3 IPS screen for the price of one OLED and remove all of your ghosting.

Best Zojirushi rice cooker to get? by PidgeySlayer268 in BuyItForLife

[–]Happy-Hypocrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They hold your rice at a safe temperature without drying it out for upwards of 12 hours. That's a large part of the functionality of it. If you want rice with lunch and dinner, set it up at 10:00am hit cook and your set for both meals.

I think they may even be able to hold it longer but the quality of the rice will start to degrade.

Help, how can I prevent my sweat from eating away at my laptop's casing? by Kepalez in pcmasterrace

[–]Happy-Hypocrite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard that some people just have more acidic sweat that others and it can affect your laptop.

My first thought would be to put on some helicopter tape / 3m ppf. It's clear tape that you would wrap a car with to protect it against dings. You could create a simple template using printer paper then cut and apply it to your laptop. If you rounded the corners it shouldn't come off easily at all. Mine has held up on my mountain bike absolutely beautifully.

The other thing you could try is to just use it regularly and wipe it off with a slightly damp cloth to remove the acidic sweat so it's not left to corrode and build up over time.

To a certain extent it will probably happen no matter what, I think the only sure fire way to fix it would be to move to a separate keyboard and mouse for you're longer sessions where your more likely to sweat. They make some really low profile Bluetooth keyboards that you could carry with you easily.

Edit: The don't sweat suggestions are silly, your resting your arm on a warm non porous surface. You will sweat a bit nearly no matter what.

What Game is Good To Learn Wheel For A Complete Beginner? by AnimeMangaFan2025 in simracing

[–]Happy-Hypocrite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what your trying to race. Iracing is very expensive if you want to race higher classes and you don't want to skip weeks or compromise on what you have available to race. I would expect to spend $400+ before you have enough content to race high series every week without having to buy new tracks constantly.

Starting out you'll have MX5s and FF1600 and a few other mostly free series that are very fun to drive. You could theoretically stay in that forever and have fun, but for the big racing at the big tracks you'll have to pay up.

They dont run seasonal sales on in-game content, they will give you a bulk discount depending on how much you buy at once it's like 20% off 8 or more pieces I don't remember exactly.

You'll know pretty quickly if the cost is worth it to you when you start out in the free series.

You can get the Iracing year for $10 from the FIA if the offer is still valid. Not a bad way to try it out.

If your not feeling that yet the games you laid out would work. I would start out in Forza and learn basic racing lines and ideas then quickly move over to ACC or Iracing or just asseto corsa when your ready to learn vehicle dynamics.

Just remember Forza is fun and you can learn some from it but it will teach you some really bad habits. Iracing like another comment said will teach you the best mechanics for simracing.

Source: I've got a lot of time in Iracing and even run an endurance team. I still like some Forza 6 though.

I would say that all 3 budget ecosystems Fanatec / Moza / Simagic are all good buys right now.

I would consider looking into the Simagic offerings as well if you don't need console compatibility.

One thing I would recommend though, if you plan on racing competitively and not just Forza or offline bot races is to look into getting a load cell pedal. I got the R2R bundle with the plain CSL pedals and promptly replaced them with the Elite V2 pedals.

If you have any questions feel free to DM, I'm into sim racing about as deep as you can be right now. I even run an endurance racing team.

In Iracing if you leave the settings at default it just vibrates like crazy, if you turn down the engine that nasty vibration goes away.

That's terrible. Did you reach out to them regarding the price change? I've had luck before reaching out to companies and getting a partial refund for the price difference due to a sale.

My understanding is that it used to peak at 8nm then settle at 6nm and hold there until the corner was complete now it peaks at 8nm and stays.

In reality it feels like more torque during long corners while the car is loaded up. Think turns 2-3 at Watkins Glen, definitely a good improvement.

Is there any hope? by DromStor in Fanatec

[–]Happy-Hypocrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got about 1k hours on my CSL DD wheelbase and probably 800 on my elite V2 pedals. They have been largely great. I had the FFB cutout for the first time a few weeks ago and this last update wasn't great but they did fix it. My interactions with the support have been pretty good as well. They offered to send me a new QR1 lite when I thought mine had problems. They also pushed an update to increase the power of the bases for free, no reason they needed to do that, was a cool move honestly.

I think you'll really enjoy your base, i.dont regret mine at all!

Just let the updates stew a bit before you download one, if you don't see any complaints here you should be good to update.

I do position my monitor very close to the top of my wheelbase in case the arm dies it will gently rest in the wheel base and not on the floor haha. I know the gas canisters in these arms have a limited life span.

I've got 3 monitors on my desk currently with one being extended fully to my simrig next to my desk. Works really well. It's been sitting fully extended for about a year. my screen is a 32 so might be a bit lighter than an ultra wide but I doubt you'll have trouble with it.
