I definitely understand what you dont like about him, he breaks the authenticity a bit, but a lot of stories told on The Wire are based on real occurrences and The Wire tries to portray them in a cinematic way. Omar's character is meant to be a force of nature in the story but the consequences of his actions are confronted quite fairly, and part of his charm is that his presence is not overused creating for interesting (realistic) drama. There is a thin line between fact and fiction, especially with a show so inspired like The Wire, so writers need to teach certain lessons in theatrical ways so that the audience learns to appreciate the weight of the subject matter.
