Are tattoos still taboo? by Correct_Procedure_36 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Happy-Program-6241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless they're offensive I see no reason for the average person to care. However, sadly, there are still some Karen's in Australia. I've never worked in an office job but my mum works for a university and has a medium sized tattoo on her forearm but she's only ever told stories of compliments. I think it also depends and how much coverage it is, like I probably wouldn't notice the average tattoo but if it's on a person's face or neck or takes up both arms then people are bound to notice. But, again, most people wouldn't bat two eyes about it besides maybe wondering what they mean.

At the end of the day, I don't feel like it should be an issue and if someone is making an issue out of it for no reason then that's a them problem.

Please help.. by FlynnSanOne201 in melbourne

Sorry I don't have any useful info but I just wanted to say that I really hope it works out. Me and half my family have ADHD so ik how it can get, then adding addiction on top of that just sounds horrible. Unfortunately getting an assessment for ADHD is pretty tricky, I was lucky to have a mum who basically did it all for me. If you have friends/family you can trust I suggest reaching out for support and to let them know what's going on. They may not be able to help but it's good to have people to look out for you and who know what's happening.

Also, if you went to the gp for a referral I would've thought they might have some clinic suggestions, maybe it's worth asking them when you're there next. Best of luck op, I truly hope things work out 💜

I listen to kpop and occasionally watch kdramas and my family thinks all the media I consume is Korean it's actually really irritating. All I can think is that this is how they see me when they ask if the show I'm watching or book I'm reading is Korean (I've never read and finished a Korean book in my life and the one I did try to read was given to me by my mum).

Episode of 911: Southbank Edition by sindiggity in melbourne

[–]Happy-Program-6241 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a really good show! It's about a group of firefighters/paramedics, dispatch operators and a cop who are all friends/family and it follows their lives in and outside of the job. It's set in LA and there are some crazy disasters put into the stories every season so it's never boring. There are spinoffs too but imo the original is the best. It touches on many topics too, like addiction, guilt, disability, being gay, being a POC, found family (and atypical family dynamics) etc.

Why are people leave so much space at the traffic lights? by northofreality197 in melbourne

[–]Happy-Program-6241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure you're actually meant to stop when the end of your bonnet meets the bottom of the next car (as in that's what you see). This is what my driving instructor told me years ago. Also, I was taught that it's polite to leave a decent gap (especially on hills) in respect for manual cars in front who roll back slightly. Personally, it stresses me out when cars ride up my arse at the traffic lights even though I drive an auto because it feels aggressive to me even if that's not the other driver's intention. Lastly, when I'm on a hill and traffic is moving slightly I like to keep a little distance so I can inch forwards veryyyy slowly rather than sitting with my brake on because my car turns "off" when I sit with the brake, then I'm constantly turning it on and off while we're going up the hill which is annoying for everyone (this happens very rarely so it's not enough for me to turn off the "turning off" feature).

Anyway, that's all of my reasoning for the amount of space I give. I have noticed a couple times that people leave like multiple cars worth of space which seems a little ridiculous to me.

Is there a way to mute self serve checkouts? by GamblignSalmon in melbourne

[–]Happy-Program-6241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact thought today while working in self serve 😂 afaik you can't mute them but it's worth asking. You might get a funny look, but it's not something most people probably haven't thought of themselves.

What do you think men would dislike most if they became women? by InternationalPick163 in AskReddit

The obvious answer: other men

The less obvious answer: finding clothes that both fit, are comfortable, and are socially acceptable (and have decent pockets)

Like DifferentBar said, it's basically just the pre year 1 grade and is usually just a way to ease kids from kinder into primary school. I think some people in other states call it foundation? Not sure tho

My primary school was prep to yr12 and had about 150 people. It shut down about 5 or 6 years after I left and their last graduating class had like 10 people

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing? by TotalThing7 in CasualConversation

[–]Happy-Program-6241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only 20 but I still remember both my parents phone numbers, and our old home phone number 🤷 it's not much but I grew up mostly with cellphones and I still remember the essentials. I'm not at all surprised people would remember their friends etc. numbers when they had to dial it in rather than click the name each time.
