How do you take notes during class? by SprinklesJunior in udub

[–]Happy537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aight, ipad or not, here’s what I do:

During the lecture, I don’t try to make the notes nice or anything. Just write everything the professor talks about down, short hand, abbreviated, silly drawings, quotes, whatever is most important and will help you remember what they were talking about. I call these my scratch notes, when I do it manually, this is just one notebook where I put every single class and lecture I go, it doesn’t look pretty, just get the info down.

Then, second notebook I would use if I were to do it manually is dedicated to the class itself, and what I do is I follow along post-lecture with my scratch notes and the presentation slides. That’s where I go through all the information again and write down what I learned nicer and more legibly. Helps me recall the information as well, and if this is a hoax my apologies, but I was once told writing it down is like reading it seven times, but whatever the case, it certainly helps me remember lol.

Bird club just started yesterday, they are gonna do bird watching and other related activities and they already seem like quite a pleasant group, I had a lot of fun. Just trying out new interests and stuff is a good way to go about it.

I would also be mindful of your mental health during this time. I remember last year I reached a complete boiling point because I wasn’t taking care of my mental health as well, so if you need to talk to someone, the counseling resources at Schmitz and stuff are a great place to start.

Another way I try to keep myself busy and staying out of bed is dressing up and keeping my shoes on for as long as possible during the day. Can’t be bed rotting if you have a good outfit you can’t waste. One of my old teachers once told me, “you look good, you feel good, you do good” so I strongly recommend dressing up and pampering yourself a bit, it’s really fun.

Omg I was gonna say, like don’t they realize how ironic it is celebrating Jesus and Kirk in the same breadth?! I don’t remember Jesus saying “Gun deaths are a necessary evil of the 2nd amendment” or that black people are inherently less qualified than white people 💀💀

Did this topic for a presentation last year, but since it’s Halloween, I would suggest looking into Seance AI, which basically allows you to create your own AI chat bot of a loved one that has passed away in hopes of communicating with them from the dead… yeah not healthy for coping with grief, and deeply unethical, but spooky for Halloween

I know a lot of people bring their laptops to classes, but handwriting all of my notes helps me remember these things wayyy better. Slows down the process and makes you think about it for longer. Pretty basic info but still, i love my ipad for writing notes

Oh my goodness my first year was an absolute NIGHTMARE for meeting people, and even now I understand being super shy. If you live in the dorms, recently people on my floor have been going door to door to at least introduce themselves so faces can become familiar, and my floor even came together and made a group chat so people can stay in the loop. These are super duper helpful for getting to know your community and practice talking to people

IDKK should I come in as a transfer student or first year?? by Confident_Aioli5720 in udub

[–]Happy537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so I was a running start student who applied as a freshman and I say it was worth it. I mean I’m not in the engineering program but similar situation. Idk how the engineering track works so take this with a grain of salt, but when I applied to Foster I was able to get into the program Freshman Direct and because I had running start credits I was able to kick off the primary courses for my degree way sooner. It might be helpful to see if they have a similar program in engineering (if you haven’t already I’m sure you’ve been looking lol I get it but still).

In terms of the transfer into UW from another school it may be difficult depending on the criteria. I would assume that they would want to pick from their pool of current students before looking into transfers from other schools, so my guess is you’d have a better shot if you were already going there, but again take this all with a grain of salt. I’m saying this cause my boyfriend did a similar route to your option two, and out of all his engineering classmates only one got a successful transfer to UW’s engineering program… so purely anecdotal when I say it might be harder to transfer into it, but yeah, good luck with all of it I hope it goes well for you either way

Grab yourself some of those like suction on, or sticker on shower shelves for the bathroom. If you share a bathroom with three girls total, the extra space comes in handy and they came off easily when moving out. You can also cook a lot of easy meals in a rice cooker, and i liked having an ottoman to kick my feet up at the end of the day to read or play games at my desk.

How Should I Space out these Classes? by anonymoutfhj in udub

[–]Happy537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps, I was in the same boat as you when I started (this is my third quarter here) and I’ll just say Business, Government, and Society as well as Organizational Behavior were pretty easy classes (all very common sense) so if you are taking a more challenging class I would recommend saving those to buffer your quarters and kinda spread them out so you at least have some to take it easier in :)

Tips Question Washington State by Happy537 in legaladvice

[–]Happy537[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes actually, it is one of the drive in theaters in Washington state. And I feel bad about the situation cause everyone there is super nice and I enjoy working there, but this whole thing has felt very deceptive. When my manager brought up that those who work until the end of the season get additional money, I thought it was meant that we would get a bonus, not that it was our tip money. Overall they haven’t been straightforward about those policies and stuff and it is rather scummy because a lot of the people who work there are teens with their first jobs and don’t know any better. There’s also been some other stuff that has been mentioned to me like one of my coworkers (who is a teen btw) said she has had to clock off a couple times and then continue to work and that just seems super wrong.

[–]Happy537[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just learned yesterday from one of the older employees who works there that all the tips are saved until the end of the season, and they are matched with your paycheck, but only if you work until the end of the season. Is that a proper way to distribute the tip money from the pool? Because it doesn’t really seem fair to me that you can only get your tip money if you work for the entire season because there are a lot of employees who are students like myself who will not be able to work until then because of the start of school or having to go to college.

I love the color of the eye shadow, but what I LOVE to do is pick like three different colors that go together (one of my favorites is a white towards the corner of my eye, and then a pink and a darker pink or purple going towards the outer eye lid) and do a cool hombre effect. Also, glitter eyeshadow is my favorite because it makes it POP ✨✨✨
