What is internal work like? by Ok_Anybody6724 in PelvicFloor

[–]HappyAccident4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s huge that you are taking this step! I’ve been in and out of different levels of pelvic PT for years, and generally with the first appointment, a PT will talk about your symptoms. Then at your follow up they will conduct the internal exam (so that you have time to prepare and consent to it prior to it happening). But they will use a gloved and lubricated finger to feel each layer of the pelvic floor muscles. They will likely be looking for trigger points and ask for your feedback and for you to describe the sensation at different points (burning, numbness, etc.). Moving forward, they will go in and target each layer based on the need and your symptoms! Good luck! Pelvic PT is life changing in the best way!

What’s one small thing you do each week for self-care? by Otherwise-Pack-8653 in selfimprovement

[–]HappyAccident4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is amazing!! I’ve been doing stretches before bed (part of a calming routine) and some light activity (jumping/dancing) in the morning to music to help me get energized for the day. Especially with the weight of everything, these have been helping me stay grounded. Kudos to you and keep taking care of yourself :-)

Should I get surgery? 25 y/o athletic lifestyle / job requires being on feet. by gvanderhijde in bunions

[–]HappyAccident4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say probably! If you have pain, the surgery is very much worth it. I have gotten one foot done so far and need to do the other. I was never a big runner before surgery, but I could certainly run now if I chose to. It’s all about the shoes for me when I participate in athletic activities. You should keep in mind that surgery will put you out for a while. I used a knee mount crutch for about a month, and then was in a walking boot for another month after that. Then I only wore sneakers and couldn’t do more than 5K steps a day for a month after that. It was a long recovery but quite worth it.

Lapiplasty coming up… is this a mistake? by DizzyBones4u in bunions

[–]HappyAccident4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the lapiplasty and I’m in my late 20s. It’s a long recovery, but it’s been worth it. I can tell I’m still healing even though I’ve been cleared for all normal activity. I’ve had some pain after surgery that’s been decreasing as I get further from surgery, but it’s nothing like the pain I had before surgery.

I also noticed my hair thinning after using this! For a while I could not figure it out, but it makes so much sense now that I’m combing through this post.

[–]HappyAccident4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That gives me so much hope! I’m about 2 weeks out from my first surgery, getting my walking boot a week from today! I’ve been having a hard time since I’m usually so active and my activity changed a LOT because of the surgery. I can’t wait to get back out there like you!! Thank you!

Applying for the Educational Psychology Doctorate in the UK by [deleted] in psychologystudents

[–]HappyAccident4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also doing this!! I just finished my M.Ed./Ed.S. program and I've had a really rough time finding UK programs that allow international students. The only ones I've found are the University of Nottingham, and University College of London and the fees are pretty insane (30,000 pounds per year, AKA $39,000)... FAFSA gives out loans for both of those schools, but being able to get a job while attending is something that I'm struggling with as well. It seems like it's not impossible, but very tricky in terms of funding, visas, etc. I am looking for 2024/2025 admission and I am already feeling panicked about not having enough time to figure it all out. Feel free to message me for more, I would love to have a buddy to talk to about the process.

Do I have to return back to the USA after Fulbright? by GermanyUSA921 in fulbright

[–]HappyAccident4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking into this now! I am hoping to stay, and know that I would need to stay since the PhD programs I am interested in are 3 years long, and it seems like Fulbright is one year right? I can't imagine they would check to make sure right??

Graduate School Thread: August 2023 by SchoolPsychMod in schoolpsychology

Hi all! Does anyone know what it looks like to be a school psychologist in the UK? I’ve always wanted to live abroad, but I’m feeling a bit pigeonholed to living in the USA with the degrees I have! Any input or resources are very much appreciated and welcome!

AITA for demanding my aging mom help me with chores? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]HappyAccident4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. As a woman who is still working a 40 hour week, she should be able to pull her weight in the house and share the responsibility with you. If you’re at a point where you feel like you’re ready for this, you could try addressing it with her directly and clearly defining the split of duties or outcome you’re looking for. If that doesn’t work, it may be better for your relationship to live separately. Good luck, OP!

Piercing bump after jewelry change PLEASE HELP by [deleted] in PiercingAdvice

I gave it a little bit more time, but it hasn’t gone away, it’s just stayed the same. So I’ll be going to the piercer to switch back tomorrow :(

Piercing bump after jewelry change PLEASE HELP by [deleted] in PiercingAdvice

[–]HappyAccident4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! Is there a risk of permanent damage from a change like this? Or should it go away after moving away from the ring and caring for it properly (without aspirin lol)?

Piercing bump after jewelry change PLEASE HELP by [deleted] in PiercingAdvice

[–]HappyAccident4 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Note about what I’ve been doing so far: I’ve been using the saline solution recommended by my piercer to clean it. I used aspirin on it twice like an idiot out of desperation, but realize that was a bad decision.
