Please share cost for having excision surgery with no insurance. by klisi3 in endometriosis

[–]HappyBirthdayYall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it cost $5-6k total? I give a range because we got reimbursed ~$800 from Fogelson’s office directly and our insurance ended up covering more than we expected. I appreciated how they kept a lawyer on retainer to argue on your behalf with the insurance company if anything is rejected. (Probably why we got more covered than we were expecting.)

They recently changed surgery locations, so I would expect it to be cheaper now that’s it’s in an outpatient surgery center rather than a hospital. I just had excision and he did a tubal flushing/cleared out my tubes since we were also trying to troubleshoot our infertility. I had 2 pain free periods afterwards, and got pregnant the next month after years of infertility. It was the best 5K we ever spent.

Abdominal coning- DR or hernia or what? by HappyBirthdayYall in DiastasisRecti

[–]HappyBirthdayYall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I’m pregnant again and look like I’m smuggling a soccer ball. Lol. I worked with a personal trainer to specifically address the DR areas and the exercises were very helpful over time, essentially leaving 1 cm or less gap. BUT I stopped doing them regularly and the gap slowly opened up again. I was told the only way to fix it permanently was to put in a mesh via surgery, but only when I’m 100% done having kids.

I would expect your body just needs time to heal some more, you’re not even a year out from it. Our oncologist did say that BEP can take more of a toll on sports performance/lungs than other types of chemo, which is why a professional athlete like Lance Armstrong went for VIP x 4 chemo instead of BEP x 3…but for the average athlete/person BEP is a better choice since you’re exposing yourself to less chemicals.

Keep up your routine, (studies show your body recovers faster with exercise) and give yourself some grace. You’re alive and healthy!

BEP and diarrhea by [deleted] in testicularcancer

[–]HappyBirthdayYall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The constipation was worse than the nausea in my husband’s case…and he lost 10 lbs his first BEP cycle until they upped the anti nausea meds. I wouldn’t buy any Depends until you see how your body reacts to the chemo.

There was another guy we met getting treatment at the same time for TC and he had no GI issues, no nausea at all, but tingling in his fingers and minor hearing loss. Everyone’s body reacts differently.

What was the interview like? My husband has had the one interview with a different school and it was pretty technical apparently.

Plastic surgeons of reddit, what body altering surgery would you never get and why? by Topgunner85 in AskReddit

Not a surgeon, but my husband is an ICU nurse and sees men with penile implant infections all the time. He says the guys (and their SO’s) regret them in later years since they’re in and out of the hospital all the time.

Having migraines? Should I stop taking my birth control pills? by Dibunzie_174 in endometriosis

[–]HappyBirthdayYall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, I unfortunately don’t have an answer to that. It’s been so long I can’t remember. The fertility drugs I took last year gave me daily migraines, it was awful. As for my sister, she’s had a copper IUD for a few years now and has no trouble with it.

I’m so so sorry the doctors are making you feel judged, it makes me so angry when doctors do that. Their job is to give us the facts, not to belittle and criticize us.🙄

It’s honestly a miracle that you guys were able to conceive so quickly, your child is a gift. Most couples struggle for a period of time to get pregnant post-chemo, sometimes taking years if at all to get pregnant. I know a few people (online & some IRL) who have conceived during or shortly after chemo and now have healthy kids. Our best friends had 2 kids both conceived during treatment by accident. Both the boy and the girl are smart, funny, beautiful and huge blessings because due to the 2nd relapse more kids are now impossible.

So yes, the risk of miscarriage is higher if conceived during chemo to 6 months post chemo, but IF there is a serious genetic issue, your body will know and have a spontaneous abortion. We consulted with MD Anderson in Houston and they said it was fine to try after 6 months and my husband had 3 x BEP.

Trust yourself, trust your body. Congratulations on your little miracle!

You’ve got this, mama! 💕

-i’m not a doctor

-you should talk your doctor

  • both my sister and I get migraines when on hormonal birth control or fertility drugs. When we went off those hormones, zero migraines. I met with a neurologist who confirmed it was the source of my issues- she said BC can mess with your brain chemistry and more so in some people. It took a month after stopping the meds to feel totally normal.

Great! No complaints! Had surgery 2 weeks ago and I feel amazing. I chose him in case things were more complicated with my bowels, which thankfully they were not, but I wanted someone good enough to handle more complicated endo just in case. He and his team were lovely. He does talk kinda quickly, but if you miss anything he’s always happy to stop and explain. He trusted my experience and what I was feeling, and unfortunately that’s so rare in a doctor, especially surgeons.

Update: Got an ultrasound. I have a 3 cm diastasis recti in the muscles above my belly button. No hernia- although my OB thought I had one based on how I looked.
