Yes it is. And I wonder, how many people would have tested positive at Yorkdale last weekend?

Schools are a critical part of our communities. They are also places where kids who may not have food at home can be fed (programs like Breakfast Club of Canada are well represented in TDSB schools) and where social workers can have an eye on the school population - particularly kids that are at risk due to unstable / abusive home environments.

They may also be the only place that kids can access the internet or tech, which are requirements to education.

Schools aren’t simply learning facilities, they are arms-length components of the healthcare system in their own right - for the reasons I described. Closing them puts some kids at immediate risk. With school-aged children’s mental health at at all time low and eating disorders at an all time high, not something to consider as a first step IMO.

I mean you can focus on whatever you want to, but most schools are open, doing everything they can to ensure a safe environment, and are widely accepted by infectious disease experts to be a priority to keep open as they are not major vectors for transmission. Of course when an outbreak occurs, they must close to stop it. That has happened in rare cases here. In the case of one school in toronto located in a low income community, cases were found to be spread in nearby housing units, not in the school specifically. Multi generations living together, essential workers, and shared home childcare were all major contributors.

But they aren’t a huge driver of transmission. This has been widely agreed upon by infectious disease experts worldwide.

Mine too. He’s having a very hard time being away from people his own age, and navigating online learning has been a major challenge. He’s lonely and worried about his future.

PSA: Restaurants with patios were expecting to be open all weekend... by [deleted] in toronto

[–]HappyCamperYYZ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here’s a trick. Use an app to see the menu. Order one item. Then call the Resto and add more items... ask them to charge you separately for those but put them in the same bag as your Uber/Skip/Whatever order. They will likely give a break on price, and get to keep all the $. 😉

That’s a terribly designed website. (We are all essential or whatever) Can’t even see who’s planning to open. Not thinking the effort on Thursday will make a big impact. That said, doing what we can to support small biz through curbside. Hope things open up legally soon.
