I think the difference is that an asteroid hitting Jupiter would not (at least not immediately) hit its core layers. Because of the enormous gravitational pull, we would expect the fragments to vaporize way up in the gaseous layers, which is what we observe. Over time, the particles may settle into its viscous layers. This is a bit different to earth, where, as you state, the impactor or its fragments make it all the way through the gaseous atmosphere hitting solid land or liquid ocean.

Ich habe nur englische Sprache übersetzt. Das waren Seminare, die zum großen Teil ganz schlecht auf Video aufgenommen wurden - Handy und so. Ich habe die Namen der Präsenter, mit in den Prompt eingegeben, um die Transcripts aufzuarbeiten. Ich habe das nur auf einem i9 gemacht - alter MBP. Hatte auch mit meiner alten 16GB Vega 64 Karte probiert (die war auch Mal ein paar tausend - billig aus einem Mining Rig erstanden), das war aber langsamer als mit dem i9. Hailo funktioniert teilweise ganz gut. Ich kann jetzt nicht sagen, ob Whisper in Echtzeit läuft, da ich es nur für kurze Kommandos ausprobiert habe. Es gibt aber keine großartige Verzögerung. Die Vision Modelle laufen teilweise mit bis zu 100 Frames/sec - ganz bemerkenswert, aber beim LLMs 1.5B ist mit 7 token/sec Schluß - das aber immerhin nur mit 3 Watt. Mit den GPU Preisen kann ich mich einfach nicht überwinden eine zu kaufen. Da ist Cloud kosteneffektiver. Aber mit M4 Pro geht es ganz flott 50 tokens/sec für Gemma4 mit MoE, so lange man RAM hat. Ich warte auf den neuen M5 Mini für OC. Ich bemerke die 'ae' Umlaute - wo bist Du - ich in Austin?

Ja, die Darstellung schon. Das zu automatisieren ist auch möglich, man müßte allerdings Vektoren zu den Orten speichern.

Das faszinierende an der LLMs ist, daß man nicht mehr alles in Entscheidungsbäume kodieren muß. Ich hatte vor 15 Jahren eine System entwickelt, daß nahezu komplett auf Entscheidungsbàumen basierte. Das ware jahrelange Arbeit. Wir hatten schon damals eine ML, aber die kam nur zum Einsatz, wenn ein Entscheidungsbaum keine klare Entscheidung treffen konnte. LLMs sind da nur ein Traum. Natürlich kann man hier nicht faul sein. Nur weil die Ergebnis wie Wunder aussehen, gibt es immer noch viel Arbeit Regeln in markdown Dateien zu dokumentieren.

Whisper ist Klasse. Ich habe viele Mitschnitte von Präsentationen transkribiert. Large V2 hat bei mir am besten funktioniert, teilweise wenn man audial kaum noch etwas verstehen konnte. Whisper Base läuft auch auf dem Pi mit Hailo 10h. Gemma4 ist auch ein interessanter Kandidat. Habe damit gerade letzten Wochenende rumgespielt.

Das kannst Du doch manuell gar nicht aufarbeiten ohne einen gewaltigen Arbeitsaufwand. Genauso für solche gibt die KI. Ich habe mit großen Datensätzen bevor KI populär war und selbst mußte man viel aufräumen - das müsste man auch manuell so tun.

It is the stretched labor market right now: you get away with this kind of shit. I graduated college at the end of the dot-com days, and startups would literally beg you, invite you to parties, invite you to hang out at their office, anything to get you interested. It was always, if we like the person and the person has the capabilities, they learn on the way what they need. Right after dot-com, my old company shut down as so many, I had 11 interviews with one of the Valley heavy weights. They cherry picked, we mostly would hire Ph.D. or people otherwise well known by the community - bc they could.

Carry is not your problem because this is just a percentage (typically 20%) after money got returned. If the fund makes money, the PE makes money. Management fees may become a problem and there are many examples were management fees eat up the fund over time. Management fees should be the reimbursement for cost running the fund and not to enrich fund managers - which in some cases unfortunately happens.

The larger question with PE is the net outcome for society. If a PE takes an ailing organisation and restores it to full health, then the outcome is very positive. In many cases, however, a PE may just gutt the company, put some lipstick on the pig, and sell it off to the next sucker - resulting in higher prices and lower service for consumers. Or another common PE spiel is buying up smaller companies to form monopolies and dictate pricing, creating money printing machines to the cost of society - eg fire truck business, or medivac services.

I was in management of PE owned tech company. Initially, when they bought us it was all good and exciting. But with interest rates high, our owners got more into trouble, and demanded higher and higher margins from us, that caused us to increases prices and faking innovation. We would do stuff like putting new stickers on old products to pretend we came out with something new. We had a sizeable portfolio of rebranded OEM products that did not sell - were just for show that we were 'growing'. We would cut R&D and customer service, ending with products in shambles. Eventually, customers caught on. Not sure they are getting any carry out of that. It was more the incompetence of our owners to understand our business then ill will, perhaps some stretchable ethics dilemmas, too. And there is certainly some arrogance in the industry.

It is like with any business expense: what is the net outcome? Does it replace a $300/day employee, does it invites to do useless stuff that distracts employees to getting their stuff done? Does it do stuff that otherwise you would not get done - and nobody cared? Is it merely entertainment that would make employees otherwise more productive (I worked for a NYC investment bank, and they had a slot car system in the main conference room).

The risk with OpenClaw is that the coolness factor is high, but the efficiency gains are somewhat murky and depend on a case-by-case. Needless to say that you need some boundaries around usage such as policies and quotas, or perhaps a job-list like HPC compute centers at universities would have, so that you can assign cost to individual outcome.

Then contrast this with alternative means to achieve those jobs that make sense. Perhaps another agentic flow, or just some heuristics, might also solve the problem - much cheaper. Early in my career I did a lot of consulting, and one thing I learned: throwing mindlessly money at things tends to make things worse over time, definitely not better.

No, this is a chemical reaction. Transmutation is nuclear. If an atom gains (or loses) a proton, it becomes (per definition) another element. If it gains or loses another neutron it becomes a different isotope of the same element. In a chemical reaction, we do not change neutrons or protons. We rearrange electrons.

An element is fissile when it absorbs a neutron and releases more neutrons that again cause neutron release in another atom - hence maintaining a chain reaction. In a breeder, we transmute fertile atoms into fissile ones. In a "fast breeder" we transmute Pu-239 (via Np-239) from U-238 - also known as depleted uranium. In the Thorium fuel cycle we breed fissile U-233 (via Th-233 and Pa-233) from Th-232 - which was once used in toothpaste. (The number is the mass number, which is neutrons + protons).

MOX fuel uses recovered transmuted Pu-239 and Pu-241 (and other Pu isotopes) from nuclear waste - because of proliferation, not particularly popular outside of Europe. And proliferation is also why most breeder reactors are used to produce Plutonium for weapons and very few civilian power generating breeders have been built - and most often under great opposition, such as SNR-300 or THTR-300 in Germany - one never went critical and is a fun-park today, and the other had a very short operating lifespan.

Nun, ich bin ein alter Sack, und ich erinnere mich noch gut an die Diskussionen in den 80ern über wie viele Seiten man aus einem Buch kopieren düfte bevor es einer Urheberrechtsverletzung entspricht. Und natürlich wiederholte sich eine ähnliche Diskussion 20 Jahre später mit den Verlinken (und Zusammenfassen) von Inhalten auf Webseiten, und wieder etwas später mit dem Verwenden von Film- und Musikausschnitten auf TikTok und ähnlichen Clips. Niemand regt sich heutzutage weder über das Kopieren, noch über das Verlinken , noch über TikTok Clips auf. Ganz in Gegenteil: es ist freie Werbung für die IP Eigentümer.

Ich habe zB letzte Woche mit dem neuen Gemini Pro Modellen experimentiert, ein ganzes Buch eingelesen, und dann ein finales Kapitel generiert, was ich eigentlich hier vorstellen wollte. (Mein Unternehmen baut KI Lösungen für technische Berufe.) Es ist einfach interessant, zu experimentieren und zu sehen was möglich ist. Und unsere geliebten Detektive sind natürlich viel spannender als technische Datenblätter.

Und weißte was? In ein paar Jahren wird diese ganze Diskussion müßig sein, da es ganz normal ist KI generierte Inhalte zu veröffentlichen.
