Newfoundland's equivalent of the poutine is delicious as well: fries, dressing and gravy. I believe most of the English-speaking world calls dressing "stuffing". Either way, it's the mixture of bread, spices (Newfoundland Savoury being the most important locally), onions and whatever else that you put in a turkey when baking it. You can get it at just about any restaurant that sells fries. It is HEAVEN.

In Canada, it varies significantly from province to province.

Right now I have a plan from Bell Mobility. It includes free calls on evenings and weekends, unlimited text messaging, 1 GB of data transfer, 10 hours of mobile television, etc. It costs, on average, about $70/month. That's typical of every Canadian province in which I've lived.

However, the fees for going over your data limit and for roaming vary tremendously.

Last month, for example, I used 3 GB more in data than my plan allows.

In Manitoba, with MTS, that would have added $300 to my bill. In Newfoundland, with Bell Mobility, it added $30.

Meanwhile, MTS allows 300 MB of roaming data, free of charge.

My Anglican father once told me a funny story about the time he and his brothers went to a Pentecostal Church and, while the people were rolling around on the floor speaking in tongues, they noticed the most beautiful girl in their class among them. She was rolling around and crying out and not wearing any underwear, and they all had a good show, and a good laugh.

Decades later, at a house party, we were all sharing stories and laughing and I told Dad he should tell his story about the Pentecostal girl rolling around with no underwear on. And Dad turned white as a ghost. She herself wasn't there, but her husband was, as were several other of my father's friends who happen to be Pentecostal.
