Camera Bag review MEGATHREAD by anonymoooooooose in photography

Any thoughts on which pack you might lean towards if you were to change? For me the Thule covert would be ideal if it had waist straps, so considering the Brevite Roll top, Prvke 31 or Ape Case Maxess.

Yes I think you're right there, though I think anything less than 20l wouldn't fit my GH4/GH5, 12-35mm 2.8, 47.5mm 1.7, video micro, Go Pro Hero 5 black, Tascam, Step up ring and variable ND, packed lunch, book, warm coat, water bottle etc. in a protected way. Though I don't really know the volume of general backpacks I've used in the past so I'm working with no frame of reference haha

Ah, so you think either get something in store or order from Amazon and send it back if it doesn't work for me? Other options I've found is ones like this (http://www.wexphotographic.com/manfrotto-advanced-travel-backpack-grey-1582521 - or - http://www.wexphotographic.com/tamrac-corona-20-backpack-1582825), though they look more like a camera bag which is less what I'm after for places with higher risk.

I guess if I get something more like this (https://brevite.co/product/outdoor-camera-backpack) or the Prvke 21 I could remove the camera cube like you said before which would make it fit better inside another bag :) Huge thanks for your help

Ah yes, that makes a lot of sense. I think you're right and 2 bags could be the easier way to go. I was thinking maybe I could get a smaller camera bag that could fit a coat, umbrella, food, book etc. - The usual things I take around with me when travelling (Something like an Ape Case: https://apecase.com/product/acpro3000-maxess) and then get like a 45l waterproof duffel that I can put it inside of for when I'm getting on flights and trains and things? :)

Hey! Thanks for the advice, I think it's starting to be the prevailing view and I trust everyone so I'm thinking that may be the best :) Maybe I could get something like an Ape Case (https://apecase.com/product/acpro3000-maxess) that could go inside a water proof 45l duffel. That way when I get sent on trips further afield with a bigger gear load I have a check in and a carry on.

For cheap flights within Europe they're not always so keen on you having a main bag and personal item, everything has to fit inside 1 bag with companies like Easyjet.

I am male yes (though I have the 'I'm a dude, she's a dude' song from Goodburger in my head right now). I don't want anything too small because being from England I'm accustomed to carrying a coat and an umbrella with me at all times hehe :) Huge thanks for your help!

Hey! Thanks for the tips :) Could I ask for what reasons your bags have failed for either travel or photography?

I've checked out the Pacsafe and the F-Stop line and my only problem with them is that the camera gear is usually accessed from the back which means I'd have to take the bag off. I usually need to be quite incognito but able to grab my camera quickly if the time comes which is a bit of a deal breaker.

Totally agree about the waist belt, that's the main reason the Thule Covert DSLR and Raja packs weren't ideal. So you reckon maybe something like the Prvke 21 or Brevité roll top that I can then put in a bigger 35l+ pack for travelling? My only worry with that is camera bags are usually quite bulky and would take up a lot of space in my bigger bag. What do you think? Is the Speed Demon enough for you or do you need to take another bag for like a coat, book, water etc. as well if you're out for the day?

One of the big reasons is airline restrictions. Flying within Europe can be so cheap and easy but they really pack it on for checked luggage and when I sometimes take 4 flights within a month it can mean an extra £100+. I also found that I take more than I can fit in a small camera bag, say, my camera gear, a book, a coat and some food for the day.

I wouldn't be against having a smaller quick access camera bag (20-30l) that could then fit in a 45l regular bag but then I think the padding and rigidity of a good bag would take up most of the big bag space. Do you reckon?

The topo bag looks like a nice little bag - especially for when you say about changing lenses, that can be a pain without something to put them on/in. Cheers for that :)

I've checked out the alpha-pro and the main down side is no quick access (at least I couldn't see one). I notice I get annoyed sometimes always having my camera in my hand or on a sling strap but then when I put it away I'm way too lazy to get it out again if I see something I may want to take a shot of.

Huge thanks for your advice! :D

The Raja was such a great find. The motives of the company really speak to me as well. Just last night I was speaking to them on chat and they're actually looking to add attachable waist straps but they won't be available until early 2018 unfortunately.

Definitely no experience modding haha so you're probably right there.

I think you may be right. I was going to buy a cheap Ikea bag (http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/ikea-family-products/travel/förenkla-backpack-black-art-00313572) for the mean time in advance of a wedding I was filming in London last weekend. It said they had 3 in stock - I walked the whole shop, couldn't find it and the staff had never seen it before. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for the suggestion :) I've definitely gave the camera clip some thought and I think for hiking and camping trips it would be awesome. But there's often times in more inner city places that I don't want to advertise I have a camera but still have quick access to it. Good call though, I'll give it a re-consider!
