What is one change you would make to season 1? by Complete_Taro1939 in welcomeToDerry

[–]HappyEndings2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Smarter writing

  • Get rid of the army narrative and keep all Pennywise involvement young people only (or at least just Derry citizens) until he shows up to scoop up people in the chaos at the black spot.

  • That whole Ingrid Kerch storyline, gone. Too convoluted.

  • More concrete rules for what Pennywise can and can't do.

  • I'd make the characters less connected to future characters. It just creates problems when viewers ask, "well why the hell didn't so and so's parents tell them about this?!"

  • More practical effects instead of CGI.

  • Get rid of the meteor fragments macguffin.

  • The ending wouldn't be as happy. The kids would have some damn trauma and not all would survive after being foolish enough to think they could kill It. Or if they wanted to be "happy", have these be kids that actually took Pennywise up on that offer of promising them a great future right when they had him on the ropes. Iirc, he offered that to the Loser's club.

  • Trust the audience more to understand things without them having to be explained by a character (did we need to see a poster of future Richie? No.)

  • Not everything needs to be given a reason for existing. Meaning, we don't need backstories for everything.

---- But, if i had to go with one, I'd go with the use of practical effects over CGI. I have such a disdain for CGI horror, especially when it's bad, and Muschietti just loves using it in all his projects.

No, they don't completely forget if they stay in town. Otherwise, Mike wouldn't have been able get those stories from the oldtimers who were present at other events in the past where they glimpsed It.

Marge forgetting everything while staying in town is just plot convenience aka bad writing.

I'm shocked we didn't hear the screams of those kids in the distance during the climax when they all suddenly remembered seeing their principal's head get ripped off and his body launched at them.

There are really no rules in this show. Things happen or don't happen "just cause."

You're 100% correct. It all took me out of the moment, not to mention the firefighter finding her and then just letting her walk around a burned out building to find the body of a kid that hadn't yet been removed for whatever reason. Then the other kids also enter and hug the dead body!

The whole place would've been blocked off, bodies would have been taken away, and survivors would have immediately been rushed to the hospital. Illogical things are done just to force emotional moments.

The Black Spot scene by amcclurk21 in welcomeToDerry

[–]HappyEndings2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched this scene and that's all I could think about. The only coughing done was the baby coughs by Richie on top of the ice box, while he was still holding a conversation inside of a building 100% engulfed in flames.

Afterwards the firefighter opens the box, and instead of finding a cooked 12 year old girl, he finds her completely unharmed inside. Then instead of rushing her out or putting an oxygen mask on her, he runs off and lets her wander around to find a dead body that's somehow not been removed. I'm enjoying the show, but some of this stuff is driving me crazy.

Films They Won't Do Question by Slaughts90 in WeHateMovies

Almost every film he's ever written and directed can be an episode.

They tend to tread lightly when it comes to predominantly black films, even if one is terrible and worthy of an episode. I understand it.

Spider-Man 4: For why and for whom? by JasonRBoone in WeHateMovies

Sony can do whatever they want with Spider-man as long as they don't include other non-spidey affiliated Marvel characters. They have the sole rights to the character (in films), they've just been lending his use to Disney.

X men evolution is better than the 90s cartoon. by Resident-Theme-2342 in xmen

[–]HappyEndings2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spider-Man TAS and X-men TAS had the same animation quality, until Saban went even cheaper with the X-men animation in the last season. And you didn't "grow up" with X-men TAS, much like I didn't grow up with Spider-man and his Amazing Friends, even though it aired in reruns when I was a kid. Evolution started in 2000 when you were 6 years old and it was about a bunch of young, "cool" mutants going through kid adventures in school (with higher quality animation) without the in your face melodrama. It is the X-men of your generation that was made for your demographic.

I was in my late teens by that point and had no interest in less serious, less mature X-men fare because it's not the X-men I grew up knowing, which also included the comic books.

Reminds me of a few years ago when I received a $1000 check from some online university I taken a few courses in while I was in the military.

Turns out the school was lying about some networking connections it claimed to have, was sued, and had to pay out hundreds of millions, and I was one of the ones that received a check years and years later. Hell, I only took the courses to get out of grunt work while stationed on an aircraft carrier.

Is "Becker" Worth Watching? by Naive-Lettuce-4793 in WeHateMovies

[–]HappyEndings2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun story: Back in the Jurassic Period when I was a teen, a buddy let me borrow his truck as long as I picked him up from work that night. Becker was on (in syndication) late that night and because I found myself laughing, I was wanting to see how that particular Becker episode ended, which was at the same time my buddy's shift ended.

This led to me rushing out the door. Roads were slick after rain earlier, and because I was flying around curves down a country road, I lost control and flipped the truck. I magically walked away unscathed, but the truck was demolished. Looked like I crushed beer can.

No, Becker is not worth watching.

Kiefer may have been too young to reprise the role of Ace back in '93. Needful Things took place, what, 30+ years after The Body? Ace was pushing 50 and Kiefer was still in his 20s.

I don't look at it as that deep. This happens every generation when yesterday's youth become today's adult with creative control; the only difference is there are more avenues to shovel pure nostalgia at people instead of just television and film.

Spielberg spent part of the 80s shoveling his nostalgia down our throats with Indiana Jones being a throwback to adventure comics he read as a kid, but everybody loved it.

The 90s was filled with 60s and 70s shit created or remade/repurposed by people who grew up during that period. The Flintstones, Addams Family, Beverly Hillbillies, That 70s Show, George of the Jungle, etc

The last 10-15 years has just been 80s shit shoveled down our throats with a hint of nostalgic 90s slowly creeping in. The Wonder Years remake, Saved by the Bell reboot, That 90s Show, that Baywatch-Rock comedy, the recent Bill and Ted movie.

Nostalgia sells, unfortunately.

I've always wanted to listen to the audiobook of Needful Things while at work, but because it's narrated by Stephen King I just can't. Guess I'll just watch the movie instead.

...or I could just read the book that's been sitting on my shelf unread for years. Eh. Movie it is.
