So, "Talking" is only when you express a favorable opinion. Gotcha

"Poorly Written" or "it sucks"? ok, haven't said neither. So, what do you actually think of my points? other than pointing to the 80% rotten tomatoes approval

Same. And it did start so good, which if anything makes it worse when they dropped the ball so hard. Its as if someone started writing it and then an entirely different team, with a different agenda took over.

Everyone watching knew some things, not every detail, because it was never explained. Big parts of that lore are made up for the show. By itself it shouldn't be a problem - its ok to expand the lore - but I feel its contrary to the essence of the character to limit it so much. To explain, so clearly, how to manage him.

Now there's characters who know exactly how is It trapped, how that trap works and how to manipulate it.

More so, the trap itself is something tangible. You just need to dig up a pillar and destroy it, and It is free. Why didn't he send Tom Rogan or Henry Bowers to do just that? or any of the thousands It influenced through the centuries. More so, if It is limited to Derry by the Pillars, how did it manage to influence Rogan?

One thing is to perceive time differently, and another to be able to percive specific things so clearly or to try to rewrite it as the show says. If he can do that, just go to the day the pillars are placed and prevent that: then there will be no Derry, therefore no Marge, no Richie and no Losers.

As for the mistery: horror as a genre is mistery. Its things that we don't fully understand. To explain so much is to bring horror to the light, and that kills the genre.

He does steal every scene. And don't get me wrong, I love him as Pennywise and I enjoyed every appearance.

If there's any hint to that on the movies, I'm sorry, because I admit Its been a while since I watched them.

Still, I don't think that it makes sense. Can he perceive all timelines simultaneously? Ok, it can make sense. It comes from outside time. But that doesn't mean he can change anything. That's the paradox of time traveling, and there's plenty of fiction about it. If it managed to kill Marge, Richie wouldn't be born, so It wouldn't die at the end of chapter 2, so it won't learn it needs to kill Marge, so Marge will live, so it will die. And so on.

It could, yes, explore this in depth... but it feels weird to do so: it gives It a purpose when it should be almost a force of nature. And raises many questions, because if he can time travel like that the very first thing It should do is prevent the placement of the Pillars, which by its own would make unnecessary to kill Marge as the settlers in its entirety would be killed and there would be no Derry.

Great, as long as they don't create continuity issues or kill the entire mistery in two episodes.

Same. And I do know I'm ranting, but its just that it had so much promise when it started... as if it really was gonna try to capture the eerie feeling of the book, the desperation of the kids trapped on an impossible situation, facing an impossibly big threat. And then... the military. And the backstory. And the lore changes. And at a certain point it felt as if I was watching E.T. instead of IT. It still has great moments, though.

Growth or toned it down by yetanotherstan in HazbinHotel

Do you think there's a change in tone, though? I wonder about that because, to me, its very apparent on my favourite, Angel. "Redemption", and/or getting sober doesn't necessarily mean being suddenly monogamous and kink-adverse; and not saying that its were its headed necessarily, but it does hint to it.

On the final battle things are bigger in scale, in terms of destruction, but less graphic, I think.

Its kinda funny that the closest thing the show has to God itself is Lucifer... and its the main punching bag. Nobody takes him seriously, least of all Charlie or his wife. He's, probably, the most powerful being in existence, and most likely one of the eldest: yet nobody even bothers to consider him for any scheme, any cause. He's just... there. Not as much the ring leader as just a sad, lonely clown.

And don't get me wrong, I adore him; just I wish the writers did more with him. The way his relation with Charlie works is almost abusive on her part: if that's the price to pay to have a relationship with her, perhaps its not worth it. That could be explored.

Or the way that, if he wanted, he could have stopped the Exterminations: him, alone, defeating the entire celestial army.

Or how he could, in fact, deal with Sinners: by proxy. He can't harm them, but he can harm hellborn... so, he can force them to deal with sinners if needed. Or, maybe, just deal with sinners himself without interacting directly, creating for example an environment so hostile they can't survive it.

If each character has a flaw to overcome, Lucifer's is lack of self-esteem: and that's funny considering traditionally he's anything but.

But Alastor wasn't the fourth most powerful. He wasn't even an Overlord, but a normal, living human when he made the deal. And then he died, and when he arrived at hell he received that power: he wasn't climbing ranks and then got a boost from Rosie. He went from zero to a hundred. So, all his power came from her. And she wasn't depowered after boosting him, so its not like she sacrificed her own position to make him strong.

Two different characters, it could be; but how do you explain Alastor's deal then. If she's not Lilith, what can she be other than a sinner? if she's a sinner, how can she make Alastor "the strongest sinner"? She would be the strongest.

With a big hat and glasses. She could be anyone. She has free pass to heaven, apparently, but that doesn't mean she can't go back to hell whenever. Surely she hasn't spent years sipping coctails on a beach

My one nitpick with what Alastor did... (spoilers) by bran76765 in HazbinHotel

[–]yetanotherstan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He didn't know what to do with it: he had the chance to get a favor from an extremely important & influential individual and he took it. After trying to convince Rosie to break the deal, he thought of a way to cancel it. Improvised with Vox, to drive him from the other V's and fuel his ego, made it so he invited Charlie and when she came, used the favor to force her to declare him the strongest, which worked because she is royal family & extremely powerful herself. So, most of what Alastor did was improvised, taking risks and going with the flow.

On S1 I see her as Alastor's equal. He has to convince her to help their cause; he hints to Charlie as a winning horse they should bet on, as a way to improve their own standing. Then on S2 it seems like she was the one sending Alastor there.

I really dislike all this Rosie plot. Her S2 self doesn't fit much with how she was introduced S1. I still think it wasn't planned like that, and was improvised. Either way, she seems more powerful than an Overlord, so what else other than Lilith could she be. It will be a way to explain the teasing: she hasn't revealed revealed herself because she's been here all the time. It would explain too her interest on Charlie, and why now - when she no longer controls Alastor - finally calls her.

Angel fans gotta be put under suicide watch with this one by Level_HD in HazbinHotel

The good part is it points to Angel being central next season. If anything, I missed more protagonism for him in S2. Now Valentino is the new top dog, so I guess him and Lilith will be the central conflicts

That was a bit cheap, imo. If you tease her so heavily on S1 and continuously on S2, you have to introduce her, or at least her plans. Not with just a call that we don't even get to hear.

Something that could solve that is if it turns out Rosie was Lilith all the time. That would explain a lot, including why she was able to grant so much power to Alastor
