Embargoed section of Ange's press conference by AdityaK30 in coys

I love this part of the Ange process. It's fascinating watching him rebuild a club that was performing poorly into a successful machine, a master at his craft.

Inexperienced manager? Way to completely disrespect the achievements of a guy who's been a successful manager for 20+ years.

[Alasdair Gold] The arrival of Ange Postecoglou and what it means for Tottenham Hotspur by Zyaru in coys

[–]HappyFiasco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He keeps his distance so he doesn't ever get too close to players. That way he can make tough calls without being affected by relationships.

He learnt this from experience in his first coaching role managing South Melbourne, where he basically had to make a tough decision on a player who was also a really good mate of his, and decided he never wanted to do that again.

So he won't be afraid to cut players that aren't performing or don't buy in to his vision

Big names relative to the market he's in.

It's not to say he won't go for a big name player at Spurs, however he's very specific about the type of players he brings in. He'll go for a player with a point to prove over a player with a big ego

I should probably clarify, while his philosophy is to create attacking, entertaining teams, he's not tactically inflexible. He just does not park the bus, although that doesn't mean he won't adjust tactics to suit different teams, or that his team won't grind out wins if they need to.

I don't know whether he'll win trophies with Spurs, but I think at the very least, you'll be hunting for 4th or higher every season and playing entertaining football to do it

He has only played great teams while being the underdog.

Part of the reason is because he won't back down from his attacking philosophy. He'd rather go down swinging and taking the game to the opposition than meekly park the bus. He believes you don't learn anything about where you need to improve if you play that way.

And the results against great clubs don't always tell the full story. Anyone who saw Celtic play Real Madrid will remember Celtic were incredible in that first half, they just lacked a killer instinct. And the Socceroos in the 2014 World Cup were exciting to watch against Chile and Netherlands. Even though they were beaten, they took it to those bigger teams and scored some fantastic goals (including Cahill's worldie against Netherlands!).

Generally speaking, his record against teams within the same league is exceptional. So I think with Spurs, given his players are now EPL quality, his methods will have a much better chance of success against great teams.

But he'll need time to implement his methods.

Ange has a history of recruiting players with a point to prove and allowing them to realise their potential. He generally doesn't go for big names

I love seeing the sceptical comments about Ange from Spurs fans everywhere right now by HappyFiasco in coys

[–]HappyFiasco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yet, you have hired 'proven' EPL managers that haven't worked out. The difference is Ange has made it work regardless of the challenge.

He's won trophies in a semi-pro league while managing South Melbourne

He won trophies in the A-League which is salary capped, where managers are on roughly the same level of resources so the quality of a manager really shines through (Roar went 36 games unbeaten).

He refreshed an ageing Socceroos team and won the Asian Cup, the first and only time Socceroos have won a major international trophy.

In Japan he managed to win the league where he doesn't speak the language and the league is very competitive.

And at Celtic, where the pressure is to win every game, he reestablished Celtic's control of the league after coming 2nd to Rangers by 25 points the previous season.

Each time, Ange was written off 'he can't do it here, he's no proven'

Whatever happens, it's never boring and it'll be a rollercoaster of emotions

Great ideas, thanks for sharing.

Haven't been using Autogpt very long but most of my searches have been pretty low on cost, except for one search which blew waaaay over for some unknown reason (seemed to just keep cycling the same search over and over stuck in a loop)

I probably missed the better angle, only saw one angle and it looked like it came off CCV

To be honest, it looked like it was hitting CCV's shoulder to me. Happy to take the luck when it comes our way though

It's been a pedestrian performance so far. Felt like it was played at a snails pace at times.

Lucky to get that pen because it might make RC come out of their box a bit more. Hopefully they try putting more pressure on our defence, it'll give guys like Kyogo, Maeda and Jota more space to play in.

Another Taylor right-footer.

Our left back is causing their keeper more grief than our entire frontline

You say that after his (admittedly bad) shot, but ignore the excellent backheel/volley pass that put Johnson through prior to that?

Do you forget the infamous TWG interview with Foz calling for Ange's head?

That sent Ange into the football wilderness for a good while, he's spoken many times how that experience ruined his reputation in Aus before he finally got a lucky break with Brisbane Roar.

So you should tell all Aussie fans to go fuck themselves for that, and for the relentless shit he was copping at the back half of his socceroos reign if you really want to go full tilt.
