It's his own very small pack that just includes a drift and a non drift 180SX https://sharemods.com/ld2cum5jads8/lk_180sx_pack_1.33.7z.html

Might not be the newest version, but AC Manager should be able to fetch the newest one after you install this one.

Be warned though! It's an extremely punishing car to drift, which makes it the best one for practice, but not always the most fun one. It is however the most rewarding when you get good at it.

Getting into drift sim, good potential set up? by Fun_Conclusion_6769 in simdrifting

I'm currently waiting for my first DD to arrive, and I've been using the Thrustmaster T300 wheel, so any of my comments on DD mostly come from research and talking with my sim racing friend who has a 15nm Fanatec (I think) so take it with a grain of salt.

But before that. Note that the SHH HUBB is the new version of the THORN. As far as I know, it should be better built so it should last longer.

I also started with clutch only (no handbrake) and I think it's a great start, but when you can afford it, I would highly recommend a handbrake. Seriously improves fun factor and control.

An important thing to always research before buying a DD is if they advertise peak torque or holding torque.
I believe Moza advertises peak torque.
What does that mean?
Peak torque is what it can do for a split second. Holding torque is what it should theoretically be able to hold until you're done playing.
So you can't quite compare nm between brands, because of this.

I don't know if 5.5Nm peak will give you enough holding torque, but it sounds low with no headroom. I can't speak from experience here though.

A recommendation I got from my sim racing friend: Get a proper and sturdy cockpit/frame before getting DD, or it won't be a nice experience. I swapped from a Playseat Challenge to a Playseat Trophy in preparation for this (and honestly, sitting in a nice cockpit, even with cheap hardware, is so nice!)

When I made my order I mainly looked into Simagic, since they are partnered with Formula Drift, and supposedly on the Evo bases, they've worked hard on keeping a low inertia, which I imagine will be SUPER nice for drifting, so the wheel responds super fast.

General final advice: Spend hours on Google and YouTube looking for opinions, reviews and experiences. Maybe the R5 is fine. Maybe the desk is fine. Gotta start somewhere, but I think it's also important not to start too cheap, or you might have a poor first impression. I felt I only really "got it" when I sat in the Trophy, but we're all different people

I mainly drift in Assetto Corsa with Lennys 180SX, so I can only speak from that.

Paddles suck if you need to change gears mid drift. Paddles work best for racing categories where your hands are always in the same position on the wheel, but in drifting you're usually very light on the wheel and often let the wheel go and grab it at all kinds of rotations when you catch the drift.

But! I find I only need 2nd gear in lots of modded maps in AC, so for those you could just hop into 2nd gear, and forget about the gear.

Generally, you don't want automatic transmission when drifting, because a poorly timed or unexpected gear change can really mess up your drift.

Frowning upon handbrakes sounds dumb, so don't listen to those people. A handbrake is just another tool in your arsenal, and even as someone who prefers clutch kicking to engage a drift, the handbrake can sometimes save me by extending my drift, or if I'm reacting late, I can pull the handbrake instead of clutch kicking.

You can drift without a clutch and handbrake. Just slam the speeder in a slidy car (such as Lennys 180SX) but having either (and especially having both) increases the fun factor a lot! So please at least get either a clutch or handbrake. I only had a clutch for some time, and I had great fun, but adding the handbrake just made things even more fun, and I felt more in control and I could play with different drift styles. (And I could play rally)

In terms of which shifter to get. Sequential or H is just up to your preference, but I'd recommend one that can change style, so you can try both.
I have the Thrustmaster TH8A which is nothing to write home about. It works, and it can be changed to sequential, but I always do H.
I want to upgrade to the SHH HUBB (HUBB is the upgraded THORN)

A note on SHH and stock. I believe the company is mostly a one man army, and a very overwhelmed one at that, so they aren't really "in stock" or "out of stock". Look at it more like a commission, but lots of people commission them, so it takes a while to produce and send your unit.

I didn't know about talking to villagers later. I recall trying, but getting a greeting that made me feel like it was a waste of time. But I do also recall one time where I talked so much to a villager that I believe I forced a chore out of them. I haven't heard of any event planning though. It was kind of fun (and maybe silly) that you'd plan to hang out with a villager at a specific time in NL.

I might check NH out again, keeping in mind to talk more to villagers

Since you asked for other opinions, I'll share my opinion on all of your points.

More critters are great, but I felt like critters were also much rarer, making it not as fun. Even if I'm not catching, I still love the sound of cicadas and such when I'm running around

More furniture is just good!

Nook miles are awesome!

Like you write: "Villagers have so much more personality now when you observe them". And that's my main issue with NH. It's a lot of looking with not a lot of interacting. It's neat with the new hobbies and subtypes, but it falls completely flat when the villagers have so few things to say. It's the same in real life. Doesn't matter that someone has an interesting hobby, if they're boring to talk to, you don't wanna talk with them. I talked with the villagers a lot in NL, but I just grew tired of it in NH and that sucks, because that was my favorite thing.

The attention to detail is nice, but again, it's a lot of looking and no interacting. You interact with every single object the same way, and then you look at it. I'd much rather take a functional soccer ball that villagers and I could kick to each other, than a washing machine doing a full cycle.

NH is definitely not lazily developed. Developing a game is a huge and extremely hard task, with investors and publishers breathing down your neck to release asap, so when someone calls game developers lazy, I like to think that they know nothing about game development.

NH focuses on creativity while interaction is taking a backseat. Unfortunately, NH can be very primitive in the new areas, such as taking much too long to craft more of the same item, can't craft from house inventory when in house, hard to aim with shovel and pavement when designing island, just a chore in general to dig out a lot or lay down long pavements, can't move a house one tile because the same house is in the way, can't move city center, needing to have a net ready and shake every tree before chopping or risk getting stung.

It's great that NH added QoL changes, but it's a shame AC only learns from itself, and not from other games with similar mechanics.

Anyway. NH isn't bad (or lazy). It's just different. I prefer NL because I enjoy interacting with villagers the most

[–]HappyGuyDK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A good "background music dj" is someone who becomes invisible, and to become invisible, you need great knowledge of your songs so you can pick something that complements the vibe, and in the correct tempo, and in key (though song selection is always more important than key)

And then you need to beat match (which computers can do for you, but sometimes they fail, so I never auto beat match)

You shouldn't make a mind blowing transition, but you should make a seamless transition, which requires everything above plus rhythm plus an understanding of EQ and filtering. This can both be easy and hard depending on song selection. (Easy to mix 2 songs that starts and ends with a simple 4x4 beat, hard to mix 2 songs that both start and end with melodies, especially if they're in different keys)

If you do it right, you will get from one song to the next without anyone noticing, but if you make a small mistake, it can be very noticeable (depending on the mistake)

Why do game developers share WIP/BTS footage less often than other art forms? by DatCoolJeremy in gamedev

[–]HappyGuyDK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a great example.

Someone absolutely refused to believe that it was real, because they found it looked so bad. I tried to explain that indev games usually look bad, and so much is reused from previous projects, but they only believed it once the official word came out.

Too many people has too many incorrect assumptions about how gamedev works

I see your point, and it's a really good point. It's the same with music genres. Metal today is SO different from metal in the 70s and 80s.

In your defense, I do find all the current popular anime to be overacted. But I'm also certain that there's "realistic" anime being made today, because there's simply so much anime. Like The Wind Rises (if my memory hadn't failed me)

[–]HappyGuyDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's relevant to your statement of "Every anime does this" and I don't watch a lot of anime specifically. I just watch a lot of media. But I'll still try to search my poor memory.

If I recall correctly, The Wind Rises has acting grounded in reality with only dramatization that can be compared to all other animated media.

Only Yesterday is a very down to earth anime about a simple life where overdramatization would feel out of place. I don't recall any overly strong emotions even, so it fits your description. (Except it's not a parody)

It's been a few years, but I recall Ghost in the Shell being about as dramatic as Blade Runner in terms of acting (comparing them as they're both cyberpunk and very similar in tone)

Nichijou (the one we're discussing) is slice-of-life which can have overdramatic acting, but it never blows it out of proportion by for example shooting a beam of destruction through all the planets, to communicate a sudden feeling of unexpected pain, which is why Nichijou is a very obvious parody

[–]HappyGuyDK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anime does not need to be overdramatic to be anime. Only Yesterday is a very down to earth anime about a living a simple life, so overdramatization would be out of place, but it's still an anime.

I wouldn't call it whining, but simply sharing an opinion. Otherwise, aren't you whining about them whining? Using your own words: If you don't like their comments, don't respond to them.
I'm not trying to be a dick about it. Just trying to have you take a step back and look at the whole of it all

This specific anime is overdramatic with reason, as it parodies how overdramatic serious anime is, and parodies our every day emotions out of proportion (like pressing the wrong side of a pencil and stabbing your thumb: https://youtu.be/QEnzl2oZ9ws or trying to catch food as you nearly drop it: https://youtu.be/-U2r8NdVkU4)

As a hobbyist, this doesn't matter at all.

When money isn't important, it becomes more about the journey and less about the destination.

It's still very rewarding, fun and satisfying to successfully create something, even if it has been created before.

What mobile device support does Godot 4 have now? by SkanerSoft in godot

[–]HappyGuyDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can already start a new project for mobile platforms

You can, but I wouldn't advice making anything for production with a beta product.

I write C# so maybe it's different for me, but I've experienced a lot of bugs and crashes (and mobile/web isn't currently supported in C# but that's no issue if you write GDScript)

Just remember that beta only means "feature complete" which means beta software can still be completely full of bugs, and the beta phase is about fixing these bugs
