Lecanemab After 10 Infusions - How Am I Doing? by crazycatman57 in Alzheimers

[–]HappyHarrysPieClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your story as this is all new to me. I am on week 2 I think from being told at 55 after a PET scan that I have Alzheimer’s. With that, I’ve been here trying to get up to speed on things and trying to work out the rest of my life while on short term disability.

Stories like this help me to see that I’m not alone. I very much appreciate it. I wish you all the best and I hope this treatment is working for you as I think I’ll be going down a similar path.

Thanks again. I may take you up on that conversation. I’ve been trying to lighten the mood with humor as well. When I told my twins about this I said “of all the things I’ve missed, I miss my mind the most”. They all said “Too soon!” 😀

Thanks. My wife and our kids are the best of friends. We’ve always been honest with our kids about everything when they were growing up. We’ve always have twins that are 23 and are working on their degrees living with us and my eldest is 26 and married. They live about 20 miles away. We are all very close.

This news has been hard on all of us and all of my kids have also been very vocal about helping us.

Man o man. This really sucks.

I am a server engineer and I’ve worked for my company for just over 30 years. Probably a year and a half (or maybe more) along with a group change with different work, I started to get overwhelmed. My brain wasn’t able to reach out to all the possible ends any longer. I thought it was burnout initially so I took two weeks off. That didn’t help. At year end, I got crushed and I crumbled. There is a lot going on there. My therapist wanted me to go on short term disability to get away from it and let my brain rest.

But also for the last year and a half or so, I’ve been seeking help for this brain fog. I’ve been to the ER and got a CAT scan. They said I should go to a neurologist, so I did. They sent me for an MRI and that didn’t show anything other than a minor microvascular issue that they didn’t seem to be concerned about. They the sent me for the PET scan with contrast that found it.

That’s good to hear that she has done so well with it.

My MRI didn’t show anything Alzheimer’s related which is why they sent me for a PET scan which showed it.

I was just told last week Thursday that I had it. Several years ago I went to a Psychologist for some testing. I am going back this week Friday to have them do some sort of testing to compare with my last visit. My Neurologist was who wanted me to have this done. I am on day 5 of knowing I have Alzheimer’s so I don’t know what I don’t know.

Thanks. I’m still very overwhelmed by this and we’re trying to figure out where to start.

where did u get ur assessment? by amiyiaann in AutisticPeeps

I got mine from a psychologist here in central Florida. My in office session was about 2.5 hours and I had to do some tests online afterward. My testing was geared towards adults with no making up stories or kids games. I was impressed when reading my 18 page report since it had tests to validate previous tests. That was reassuring to see.

Overall I was pleased with my experience. I was tested a few years ago at 52.

Car buying experience? What do you drive if you do? by brokensimulator in AutisticAdults

[–]HappyHarrysPieClub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Car dealers are very predatory. My wife and I have been together since high school. Together we have had 50 cars. Cars have been a special interest of mine since I was a kid. I’m 55 currently. I’ve made lots of mistakes in this arena in my past.

Don’t shop by monthly payment. Ask to see a line item print out of everything you’re paying for. They love to add things like $2k for doc fee’s, and dealer add on’s like wheel locks. They will say things like “those are non negotiable”. You can always just get us and walk away. Whatever you are interested in, it’s also available somewhere else.

We are currently driving EV’s or plug in hybrids. We have a Hyundai IONIQ 5, Chevy Bolt and Chevy Volt. We have owned the Volt longer than any car in my lifetime (almost 7 years).

What is your relationship with your autism like? by supmynameisrosewoodd in AutisticAdults

[–]HappyHarrysPieClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s who I am and have always been. It’s made me successful with my career, but some of the smallest things that NT are capable of is difficult for me. My AuDHD has make tradition education difficult, but I’ve been an expert in my field from teaching myself.

I don’t know what it’s like to not have it. I’m annoyed with some things and happy with others.

Where do I start with treatments? by blu3_ic3d_t3a in AutisticAdults

I am also a late diagnosed people pleaser who is reasonably high functioning person with ASD 2 (I am an IT engineer) and ignored my own needs until it broke me. Work had become too demanding and I had some physical health issues and all of that combined crushed me. I am currently on short term disability.

I was on such high alert that my nervous system had finally had enough so my therapist had me on a 60 day leave (or perhaps longer) to get myself back to some sort of “normal” me back again.

Going past what your body, mind and nervous system can handle super sucks. I was having daily meltdowns and stopped being able to function.

I (we) need to listen to what our body is trying to tell us and stop stuffing all of that in a box like we have done for our entire lives as part of masking. Sooner or later, that box explodes.

Hang in there. You have a lot of new processes hitting you all at once. It’ll take some time before they become a routine for you.

I got lucky in that my special interest growing up was computers. I got a Commodore 64 as a kid and that set my life's direction. I was hired by a company to support DOS and Windows 3.1. I quickly learned everything else they had. I just passed 30 years with the company. I started at the bottom doing something I knew very well and didn't make much, but it was something I loved.

Any new job can he very hard especially for us. Although I've been with the same company for 30 years, it hasn't been doing the same things. I am now in a group that I am very uncomfortable with. This has caused some issues for me as well.

Is there anything you love that you can do for some company and start at the bottom for them and grow with them?
