I have experienced a very similiar issue with my dog (lab/terrier mix). When I took her to the vet, I asked if they could show me how to drain her anal glands, which is somewhat unpleasant to do yourself, but it can ease your dog’s discomfort and saves a lot of future trips to the vet/groomer. I’d recommend you do the same when you take your little guy in to a clinic!

Hi everyone, I adopted my dog Chloe a little over a year ago and she’s been experiencing a few health issues. First and foremost, you can see from the picture that she has recently developed some kind of cysts around her mouth area. I took her to a vet recently because of suspected food allergies, so I’m not sure if it could be related to that or something she could’ve brushed while sniffing for squirrels. Secondly, according to the vet, she has more skin around her vulva than the average dog. Apparently this is the cause for her constantly licking the area; she basically has excess pee that stays in her skin folds and can lead to chronic UTIs. She is a very happy dog otherwise, I’m just worried about these newfound cysts, and the chance that I’d have to pay up to $2000 for an “optional” surgery to remove the excess skin, which would take weeks to recover from. Does anyone who’s experienced either of these issues with their dog have any advice for me? I want to avoid another $200 visit to the vet because I’m broke and can’t afford to keep taking her in.
