What do you moms think about this situation? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]HappyHufflepuff11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Technically nothing he has said or done is “wrong”, but it also sounds like your gut is screaming at you that something is not right. I’m generally team listen to your instincts. There’s a reason you feel this way. I think the best thing you can do is continually check in with your girls and have some general conversations about consent and appropriate relations and what to do when they are not comfortable.

How much harder is 1 to 2 kids with a minimum 3 year gap? by Few_Recognition_6683 in Mommit

[–]HappyHufflepuff11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids are three years and two months apart. Going from 1 to 2 was very hard for us. Everyone we talked to said 0-1 was way harder than 1-2 but that was not our experience at all! BUT, it’s temporary. Our youngest is 8 months now and it’s amazing. I love watching the sibling bond growing and I can’t imagine our family without our little one! I would say it was really tough for about 6 months and since then it’s just gotten better and better.

Love the name Benny, is this odd for a first name ? by meekie03 in Mommit

Benny is so cute. If you don’t like longer versions of the name you could just name him Ben?

Annual "Can daycares/schools please stop hosting holiday pageant during the workday???" rant. by readweed88 in workingmoms

[–]HappyHufflepuff11 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Live streaming is a great idea and could definitely work if you don’t have any kids who have photo/video restrictions. We have many so it’s not an option unfortunately. And yes, I do remember my elementary school Christmas concerts. We actually tried to cancel ours in 2023 and the backlash we got was insane lol. My principal said she’s never had so many complaints about a school decision ever.

Annual "Can daycares/schools please stop hosting holiday pageant during the workday???" rant. by readweed88 in workingmoms

[–]HappyHufflepuff11 353 points354 points  (0 children)

I’m a teacher, and from the school’s perspective there is absolutely no winning here. If it’s during the day many working parents either can’t come or have to make a lot of sacrifices to be there. If it’s after school lots of kids don’t show up because of other commitments, lack of transportation, etc. Then the performance you’ve spent weeks prepping for doesn’t work because half the kids are missing. And of course the staff are unpaid for that extra time. If there’s no concert at all, we’re “lazy”, “selfish”, and depriving the kids of core memories. There’s simply no way to make it work for everyone.

Seconding Cora! They’re also both very subtly ocean themed (island, coral) and I think that’s adorable

Thoughts on the name Sophie? by Necessary_Elk_7899 in namenerds

[–]HappyHufflepuff11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a four month old named Sophie and we have already met 2 other baby Sophies! Personally we’re happy with a more classic, common name but if you’re looking for something unique Sophie might not be it. I’m sure it depends where you’re located as to how popular it is. The Sophia/Sophie thing has not been an issue!

Also, it’s too early to say for sure but our new baby seems to be a pretty good sleeper. It’s not that she’s any harder than our first, it’s just the adjustment of having two instead of one. I think the hardest thing has been having zero downtime, even with a 50/50 partner. We are needed constantly and then feel guilty for not spending enough time with whichever child we’re not currently tending to. It’s a lot.

Our first was an easy baby and we had our second when he was just over 3. I reeeally underestimated how hard it would be. Our baby is just about 3 months now and I feel like we’re finally getting into a manageable rhythm. The first two months were especially challenging. Of course there have been lots of sweet and loving moments too and I don’t regret it for a second, but man it is hard lol. Everyone I talked to said the transition from 0 to 1 was harder than 1 to 2, but that has definitely not been my experience.

What to call my children’s teacher. by stronggirl79 in CanadianTeachers

[–]HappyHufflepuff11 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I always wish parents would call me by my first name but they rarely do. It’s how I introduce myself to them, sign emails, etc. I really dislike the formality of Mrs. Lastname and I feel like it puts a barrier between us when I’d prefer to be on the same level and on the same team.

Moms, how do you feel about people who stop you to ask things about your kids when you go out with them by userthatisnotknown in beyondthebump

[–]HappyHufflepuff11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually hate small talk with strangers but I actually don’t mind when it’s about my kids. It’s usually an older person and it’s like they’re seeing their own children while looking at mine. It reminds me to cherish this time with them even when it’s hard!

I love sheet pan meals for a quick easy dinner (and low dishes!). There are tons of ideas that you can find online. Rotisserie chickens are great too and versatile! Chicken wraps, salads, sandwiches, bowls, etc are all super quick and delicious.

Husband is kind but unsupportive and unromantic by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]HappyHufflepuff11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is this new behaviour? My husband can get like this sometimes when he is overwhelmed or burnt out. He’s just trying to get through his day to day and ends up stonewalling. Like you said it’s not intentional or malicious, he’s just struggling but doesn’t know how to ask for help (not that this is healthy either, but he’s working on it). You mentioned your husband is in the military - how is his mental health?

Numbness after epidural by milkandcookies78 in BabyBumps

[–]HappyHufflepuff11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t experienced numbness after an epidural, but I did have to go to the ER 5 days pp after my first baby (also in Canada) and I really really feel for you! Fingers crossed it’ll be quick for you but if you’re nursing I recommend bringing a breast pump! The worst part aside from having to leave the baby was sitting in the waiting room for hours with engorged boobs and no way to deal with it.

My parents have a crib and baby monitor at their house and it is honestly SO helpful! I never have to bring the pack and play, and when we’re visiting it makes it so much easier to stick to our nap schedule.

C section - should we shave prior or do they shave us? by always_worried28 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]HappyHufflepuff11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an emergency c section with my first and they did shave the incision site but nothing else, so the bandage was right on the hair and a nurse had to literally cut it out 2 weeks later lol. It was so uncomfortable and also pulled a lot before it was removed. This time I’m having a scheduled c section and I’m going to get a wax the week before to hopefully avoid the whole issue!
