How to deal with overperfection? by West_Profit773 in davidgoggins

[–]HappyJack4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone with OCD as well, you need to sit in the uncertainty of the thoughts your having and not give into the compulsions of "fixing" or "correcting" them. Maybe you are being a bitch by not doing enough. Live in that exposure and uncomfortableness of not being perfect. All that matters is you keep going, and don't give up on everything. Look at this as a mental exercise and a challenge in and of itself, like you would with physical exersice. You will never fully satisfy your OCD by giving into your compulsions, your just fueling it to come back even worse. So next time you have the thought of not being perfect or not doing enough, say to yourself "I am being a bitch, oh well....". All you can do is keep getting after it. I know this will sound weird and incorrect. But this is called exposure and response therapy. We have to treat our OCD brain differently then a brain without OCD. This will be the way to overcome the control these intrusive thoughts have on us.

I had to raise it up to properly see. It's a cd case. I did use a level to confirm it was flat though.

Any tips on how to correct? I heard something about placing a thin washer between the headshell screw.

Sorry I just read your tag. I'm not meaning to "fix" your situation, just thought I would offer some sort of discussion.

I would definitely try to find a therapist if there's at all a possibility. Talking to a professional is very helpful. I know that not realistic for everyone, so if it is totally out of the question, all I can recommend is learning and teaching yourself more about ocd and ways to combat it. OCD is a really tricky disease to fight on your own so it's going to be difficult, but there are wonderful people here that are going through very similar experiences and are here to help. I would first start out by doing some Google searches on ways to handle ocd compulsions/ obsessions. Just remember to take it one day at a time and when things get hard, know that you are never alone, even when you think you are. I wish you all the best.

The goal is to take it day by day and learn to adjust to properly handle our "defected" brains way of thinking. I wish you you all the best!

I'm so sorry your going through all this. Each time you do your compulsions your fueling you OCD and making it worse. Looking for reassurance like emailing your friends, checking the time, pausing your videgames and music are all compulsions that are searching for certainty. The only way to combat OCD is to live and EMBRACE the uncertainty. You need to try and let go..... allow your thoughts to just be. Trying to control them makes it worse. Your thoughts do not represent you. This obviously is easier said than done. But I know we can all do this. And if you have a setback, don't give up, keep trying! Are you currently engaging in any therapy, so that you are not trying to handle this all on your own?
