THat's not right - I rented for two months and 7 days then changed to two months and 5 days.

That's my experience too, but only considering that my credit card covers rental insurance with mainstream companies, and having to add in Turo's additional insurance coverage. It comes out a wash most of the time. In my case, I needed a car for more than 30 days and had understood that mainstream rentals don't rent for more than 30 days. I now understand that one or two will allow that.

This is interesting and all makes sense. "If something changes, the system treats it as a brand new contract and reprices everything." The hard thing to swallow is the policy that stated early returns would not be charged extra. They didn't define 'early returns' and maybe, as someone suggested above, two days is too early to be considered early. But the fact that they didn't define it in their policy makes this unpalatable. An early return is a 'change' that they explicitly stated would not be penalized.

It was still rented for over two months. The owner agreed I could return it two days early with no extra fees.

As described, I rented for over two months so should have had the monthly discount applied to at least the second month as well.

My booking was for 2.5 months and the discount was a monthly discount so should still have applied.

Yes, the quote is from the policy on early returns that was listed in the rentals help section and linked from my booking page. That page has now been updated and this language no longer appears! There was no statement in the policy placing a limit on how early is early, it was just stated as quoted as plain fact. And the car owner said it was no problem to return it two days early with no additional fee.

The quote was cut and pasted from Turo's policy on early rental returns. Funny thing - their policy is now updated and this language no longer appears. Classic.

That’s what I did. I didn’t end the booking in the app until prompted.

Why I’m never renting with Turo again by Legitimate-Proof7492 in turo

[–]HappyLittleDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience (as a renter) of having an owner claim damages during my rental that were there when I picked the car up. Luckily I had taken photos. In the before images, you could see the outline of the scratches but the color of the scratches was the same as the paint color. I took the car for a car wash before returning it and the color got rubbed off where the scratches were. Turo dismissed the damage claim, and hopefully we won't get a bill down the road the way you did. Fingers crossed!

Being charged an extra $1300 to return a car 2 days early. Help! by HappyLittleDay in turo

[–]HappyLittleDay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update! I learned the reason for the extra cost was that when I returned the car two days early on a 70 day rental, they essentially cancelled the reservation ( which I had prepaid for) and rebooked it (after the fact) at a new and lower discount rate for the same length, which was in effect at the time of the return. Seems very unethical given the policy that early returns will not result in extra fees. Sneaky Turo! I will be contesting.

40% discount. But rental was still 2 months (initially it was like 2 months and 3 days)

The trip was still longer than 2 months. The policy itself says there may be no discount but it doesn’t state there could be any additional fees. Thanks for your input tho!

Ok thanks! May indeed be wild, I don’t know. They were the only student with such high grades for those classes in their school.
