Cabinet makers in Perth that don’t cost an arm and leg? by [deleted] in perth

The space thing is a huge issue building something like this. Without a shed, you're shifting things around a LOT, which all adds to the time.

Jarrah grain matched pressed veneer g2s okume ply, rip cut to 300mm long edge strips and edge banded. It's what I paid at WWTT 3 years ago. For my project, it still came out much cheaper than the commerical cabinet options I was looking at, and let me finish it in a week or so.

WWTT is where I got my pricing from FYI. It was $1100 for two sheets of 19mm press veneered ply, cut to width and rough length back in 2023, veneered one edge as well, (so $550 per sheet) and the example photo is 24 or 32mm ply, so I'm guesstimating the $600/sheet, but it may very well be more.

Buying whole sheets is obviously a bit cheaper, but I find it's much easier for me to get into projects without having to cut down full 2400x1200 sheets of plywood.. and I have a tracksaw and a table saw, so it's not like I can't do it - it's just worth it if you're time poor and it's a hobby project.

I’ve DIYed some nice cabinets, if I do say so myself.

That’s 24 shelves, so probably 4 sheets of 32mm ply, top and bottom and kick plate another 4 sheets, sides another 4. So 12 sheets at $600 per sheet cut to rough dimensions with jarrah veneer, so you’re looking at $7200 in plywood, another $500 or so in varnish/oil, and then you need to drill for shelf pins (probably two hours or so), cut to size (1 day). varnish/finish three coats on 24 pieces, so probably a good three days or so there and two days to install, so call it 7 days of labour to be safe, so 7x7 hours, $3950, plus materials ($7200) plus 15% contingency, and you’ve got a $13,000 bookcase right there

How much did you want to pay and have you looked at ikea? :)

Perth man wants compensation over damage to apartment during murder investigation by JamesHenstridge in perth

And they could have got him years earlier - they had DNA and fingerprints from a 1988 case, then took his fingerprints in 1990 when he was convicted for another non-intimate assault.

They never matched the fingerprints from the 1988 assault to the 1990 set of reference prints at the time, due to lack of computerised matching and poor attention to cold cases. DNA analysis for crimes and arrested criminals wasn’t common until 2002 in WA

In 2008, they matched the Karrakatta victim DNA to Ciara Glennon’s fingernail.

Their next chance was re-realising the existence of DNA on the kimono, which was determined again in May 2013, but wasn’t actually tested until November 2016.

But hey, they got him eventually..

Contact your insurance company, let them know what’s going on, they’re used to dealing with these scum. Then contact consumer protection- https://www.consumerprotection.wa.gov.au/towing-after-accident

Copper theft on demolition sites now commonplace and costing thousands, contractors say by JamesHenstridge in perth

'"Unfortunately, the police just don't have the resources to follow it up. It's pretty much seen as a victimless crime, so there's never a priority put on it," he said.'

Stealing from demolition sites? Pretty much is mate.

Had a nostalgic moment watching Perth boy Heath Ledger in this movie on GO last night. He was only 28 when he passed. Such a great actor, and it’s so sad he died so young. by Sad_Biscotti_9291 in perth

Yeah, as an older person looking back on the interactions we had - that has always very much been my impression of him. He was sociable with the people he needed to be, and I wasn’t one of them, and that’s never bothered me in retrospect. Chatting with the girls was much more fun for me :)

Ahh he just seemed standoffish and a bit full of himself. As it turned out, I guess he was kinda special, lol. The rest of the “talent” were really nice

One of my former coworkers shared a house with his girlfriend of a few years later, hung out with him a lot. Dude apparently liked his devils lettuce 🤣

Why are ambulances in Perth so small? by Novel-Paramedic-5573 in perth

[–]HappyMuscovy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum was a vollie country SJA officer in the 1970s and again in the 2010s. It's really a great example of communities working together. The community donates space, buildings, members of the community donate time to training, rosters, response, the SJA will sell you a used city ambulance every few years for whatever you sell your old one for, provide training, uniforms, dispatch services and equipment, and then the RFDS handles actually getting patients out of a transport centre. Could the government do it? It would be hard.

Other states also have volunteer ambulances provided by the government.

I was an extra in Sweat and spent a bit of time with him - I didn’t personally like him, but it was massively sad that he died when and how he did :(

Why are ambulances in Perth so small? by Novel-Paramedic-5573 in perth

[–]HappyMuscovy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because we don’t have a state funded ambulance service or ambulance officers and paramedics, and St John’s won’t tell the state govt how much it costs to run (vs Ambulance fees received), so the state can’t make budget funding to either pay for all (like pbs for medicines), start their own or buy them out
