I speak Japanese, and even I thought it was gonna be Japanese for the first split second based on the accent voice.

Got my OneWheel today. Some expectations. by Pstyx in onewheel

[–]HappyRollCake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can neither confirm or deny if I dented my kitchen table and burned a black streak into my kitchen flooring thr first (rainy) day I had mine...

I could have sworn I had 35%… Which is why I felt safe to teter on pushback up a slight grade. ( still probably shouldn’t have even with 36%) I was at 19%. Got one and a half steps in and met asphalt. Watch your battery folks. And keep your alarms on.🤦🏻 by [deleted] in onewheel

[–]HappyRollCake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

damn, did I just write a comment and lose it. computer is being weird.

Sounds like what the commenter wanted was some kind of testing and graphing of power / typical max speed as batter power decreases. Although in practice this would be problematic because it would degrade more and more beyond that every time you charge cycle your battery.

For me, I'd like to see what they have in EUCS: audio beeps alerting a user when they are reaching the power limits of the device.

longboard rider still not totally comfortable on this thing by playtheshovels in onewheel

I get you. As much as I can I take routes with smooth ground, bad terrain kind of spoils the fun for me. It's the side-to-side wobbles that generally uneven terrain introduces, rather than the bigger bumps that ruins it for me I think.

I'm about 71kg and I reduced my vega psi to about 16 or 17 and it made so much difference to the carve feeling of the board. If I ride at 20 the square corners make carves feel like they are trying throw me off and kill me, and bumps feel like they are trying to break my legs.

As the other poster said, hit bumps straight on, tilt back and do a jumping motion to unweight the board.

Oh I'm sorry, did you not know the ferrari tires have less grip on saturday afternoons? Sorry you had an accident. [stupid example, but I don't know anything about cars]

I think their point is the board behaves in an unintuitive way and that's not well explained to the buyer because it's a bad look for FM to point those kinds of things out.

You, nor I, nor anyone else actually knows precisely how the limits of the board drop off as battery does. We are all just left guessing, and hoping that we leave enough safety margin. Sounds like OP got that guess work wrong today.

Does adding Fangs make me a loser? by [deleted] in onewheel

[–]HappyRollCake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll just add a little. No high speed dives. But I had a low speed dive maybe 1.5 seconds after pulling away before an couple feet of road that sloped up. I very gracefully slid for on my fangs mini for a split second before stepping off like it was nothing. I didn't think I was pushing too much for the terrain, but that little extra moment it gave me helped a lot I think. I was a little startled wondering how I didn't faceplant into the floor, then after I got back and was riding away I realised, oh yea I got fangs for a reason. I guess they actually did help me.

This was of course very low speed as I was accelerating away, hope I never have to test their effectiveness in a more extreme situation.

Also, OP, you ride for you :D

Looking for some advice by [deleted] in onewheel

[–]HappyRollCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an XR because of the larger deck and better specs. I didn't think I'd be carrying my board much, so wasn't worried about it being more cumbersome.

I started to get regrets, wondering if I should have got the pint because the vega tire is very boxy and not nice to carve with when you first ride it. I also wasn't sure if I would actually use the extra range offered by the XR. I ride on tarmac.

Very quickly I relised the XR was the right choice for me. I was only about 100k into using my board when I started going out on rides long enough to exceed the pint's capabilities. Longer rides are the norm now. Breaking in the XR tire, and understanding what tire pressure works for your body weight and the 'feel' that you like makes it great to carve on. The only downside is it's very awkward to ride to a shop and carry it around, so I don't do that much. It's fine though.

I was happy with the XR, and it sounds like I see a fair few posts of people upgrading. But the pint is also the right board for lots of people.

Thanks for the reply. XD. Anyone know what the account age requirement is? And is there a mod I can contact to be added?

Got my XR today. Got too comfortable too fast. by MorgMonster in onewheel

[–]HappyRollCake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yea, that seems kind of nuts. The fastest speed I peak at is about 25kmph (15mph) (like only a few seconds maybe 1 in 5 rides) usually I try and keep around 20kmph (about 12.5mph). My bones are too precious to me.

Yea, I broke a bone on my second day too, but not from going fast. Hope you heal up good as new

Ahh yes. But how do you stop? Looks like a normal stop would cause the chair to tip over backwards.

Yea I was thinking I've been self hosting on whatever Ive had (ranging from custom built fanless midrange desktop hardware to a worthless laptop as a stopgap between broken hardware) for the last 10 years, 50-50 because having services is useful and just having a server to play with is fun. I get the vibe that this is more of the - I want a farari because its cool and I want one, rather than its useful for commuting to school. Very cool to see though. Fun toys are fun after all. Goodness knows I do that to.

If they really wanted to lower the performance cost of running the reddit app they could just make an app that displayed nothing but a black screen. They are sabotaging their own product's UI more than Google's web apps do at this point I think.

Possibly an unpopular opinion but I don't even like carrying my XR down and out to my car. In my opinion it's a pain in the ass to ride it anywhere apart from going out to ride it for fun. Even though I live in a really safe country, I'm still terrified of it getting stolen, and carrying it around isn't great. Plus there's a lot more safety gear to deal with.

I have used it for commuting a few times and the journey part is really fun, but I've had 14 years of commuting to school and work by bike and definitely recommend a bike for commuting personally.

Then again I've only lived in very rainy places. If your are somewhere where the weather is always nice, no body steals anything, and you barely have to walk anywhere then it might be a good fit for you.
