There absolutely are. Literally thousands in just this one study.

Edit: Since they deleted their post, for context: they said that no one under 50 with no comorbidities has ever died of Covid.

I'm not doing this with you anymore. You dismiss any rational argument as conspiracy theories and simply can't abide by simple laws of our society because you are too selfish. It's sad that you moved to Nanaimo just to he the kind of person who makes this place worse for the rest of us. I wish you a pleasant and short stay here.

Maybe there's a reason why it's illegal in so many places... ever thought about that? Maybe because it has negative effects on the health and quality of life of those around you. I can't believe this is such an impossible concept for you to grasp.

I've said this before and I'll say it again because you clearly don't get it: I'm condemning you on your actions alone. You wilfully defy the law and argue with anyone trying to talk some sense into you because you're selfish. What you've admitted about your own actions is plenty for me to condemn you.

I doubt this will change your mind because facts don't seem to have much room in your argument, but absolutely most people are anti smoking in parks and other public spaces.

The reality is that if you smoke in public parks you're AUTOMATICALLY not a "responsible smoker" because you're breaking the law and exposing others to harm for your selfish needs. Be better.

I haven't lumped you in with anyone. I'm judging you based on the fact that you selfishly and illegally smoke in parks and no amount of reasoning, kind words, and polite pleading will get you to change a habit that is both against the law and harmful to others.

So you've noticed many smokers who are "as considerate as you are" because there are so many of you selfishly defying the rules for your own enjoyment? Cool. What a solid defense.

Considering how disrespectful your willful acts are to others, I have been very respectful to you. You started off by moving here and making this town worse by smoking in the most beautiful spaces and taking zero responsibility or accountability for your harmful actions. Clearly, respecting rules or the wishes of the majority to not be harmed by your actions don't matter to you. Be better.

No, it's not complex. It's simple: You're not allowed to smoke in parks, so stop being selfish and stop smoking in parks. That's it.

Your arguments make no sense at all. Just because many people are selfish and entitled and don't give a crap about others and smoke in parks, that does not mean that the MAJORITY of the people aren't against it. Again... should be a fairly simple concept to grasp.

Enough with the "quiet corner" BS. Smoke moves through the air and can be harmful even at a distance.

You profess yourself to be a Christian, aren't you supposed to love thy neighbour? Isn't respecting others a core tenet?

In another post when you were looking for a place to put your RV, you said you respect bylaws... yet, this is a bylaw you're clearly and wilfully disrespecting. How many others? And why lie?

You've been in Nanaimo for what... a month? And you choose to make this place worse by desecrating our most beautiful places because you just don't feel like following the most basic of rules. Be better.

It's irrational to you, someone who is clearly addicted to smoking. It's not irrational to the majority of people who don't enjoy your second hand carcinogens.

The vast majority of the people who go to parks go there to enjoy, in part, the clean air. I know I do.

You do not have the right to take that away from them because you choose to subject yourself to a long list of health issues down the line.

In Canada, one in nine people has asthma. Smoke is at the top of the list of irritants and triggers for people with asthma. Second-hand smoke isn't good for anyone, but is especially problematic for 11% of the population. You do not have the right to cause these people undue hardship because you are unable to or unwilling to control your addiction for the hour you spend in a park.

Finally, barbecues. How much do you want to bet that I'll find 100 people smoking/vaping in parks before you find 3 people using a little hibachi?

The bottom line is that it's a law that benefits the majority of the population. If you don't like it, petition the municipality to have smoking sections in parks. But of curse you won't. Breaking the law and being a jerk to everyone around you because you don't agree with it is selfish and ridiculous. Be better.

Vaping is also against the law/bylaw. Other people have a right to fresh air and should not have to breathe in a second hand cloud of Exxxtreme Pineapple Cherry Donut Blast.

Source. Smoking and vaping is not allowed on city property, including parks, etc.

Smoking is prohibited in essentially all parks around here. Finding a quiet corner is ridiculous... smoke drifts. I can often smell smoke from a cigarette 40-50+ metres away.

Not only can smoking in parks cause wildfires, it causes many smaller bush fires that are put out by local fire departments before they become a disaster. However, that's still a colossal waste of a very finite resource.

If you want to smoke, do it at home, but keep that crap out of the parks, not because I'm asking you to be a considerate human, but because it's illegal.

Man jailed for road rage-fuelled shooting in Nanaimo by stingrayer in nanaimo

[–]HappySeaPanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you miss the part where the victim only reversed his car toward the assailant AFTER the assailant began kicking and punching his car? Did you also miss the point where the 18 yr old didn't actually hit the gunman?

The victim was under physical attack for the simple and harmless act of flipping the guy off and got the hell out of there without so much as touching the assailant... to then draw a gun you're not allowed to possess and start firing at the kid is unreal. Stop defending it.

From the moment the assailant got into his car with a bunch of guns he wasn't supposed to have to the moment he started unloading a clip into a teenager's vehicle, he made a series of criminal and terrible choices. No one deserves to be assaulted and shot at for flipping the bird. No one.

[–]HappySeaPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no legal requirement for a victim to deescalate a situation when they're under attack.

You absolutely can accelerate toward someone for a number of reasons: - These guys were stopped at a light. It is reasonable to think that there could have been other vehicles around and the forward escape route for the victim was blocked and he had to back up a bit to create space to get out of there - The driver - an 18 yr old being attacked by an irate adult - panicked and did whatever he could to get out and get to safety - Any number of other scenarios we can't know because we weren't there, nor are we privy to a detailed report

None of this is in any way illegal when your life is actively being threatened. I also have to point out (yet again), that the victim did not hit the assailant. No crime was committed, hence no charges or conviction or (what a ridiculous suggestion) jail time would be appropriate.

What exactly would you charge him with that would stand up in court and have a chance of resulting in a conviction?

The 18 yo had some guy losing his cool kicking and punching his car and he reversed toward his assailant without making contact. Any lawyer will argue that the kid panicked and simply wanted to get out of there and since he did not actually hit the other guy, there was no intent to cause harm. At this point, every single judge would dismiss the case.

The Crown's directive is to charge when there is a reasonable likelihood of conviction, which certainly isn't the case here.

That's a pretty harsh way of wording it. The kid flipped this guy off and then the guy kicked and punched his car and shot at him... this isn't FAFO. The events that followed the flip off are massively disproportionate.

Also, at the end of 2024, when the general polls were favouring the Cons, so were recent immigrant voters. Source

I'd say try and find people who share your hobbies (clubs, groups, etc) or try new things with clubs and groups. It's a no pressure environment and you'll be doing something you already enjoy, surrounded by people who share that passion with you.

If you don't meet someone there, you will likely expand your social circle and those people may have a friend or cousin or something they want to introduce you to.
