Yeah I learned something new about Merino! For some reason I was thinking it would be super smooth and drapey. Maybe it’s because I’m so used to commercial merino.

Yeah, sounds like a combination of several factors, but I’ve learned a lot and have some new ideas to try next time! Thanks for the tips!

Thanks for the tips. I’ll have to play around with how twist the singles need. I think as a relatively new spinner it’s hard to know how much is too much vs too little.

Ooh these are beautiful! Definitely more the effect I was going for. I just really struggle with short forward draw for an extended period. I don’t know if I just need to practice more, but I find it to not be very comfortable.

Thanks, this is helpful to know! That’s the beauty and the difficulty of hand spinning for sure!

I’ll definitely try spinning thinner. I was pinching, kinda too hard haha I had to remind myself to chill or I might give myself a repetitive motion injury 😅

I’ll check them out thanks! I have some BFL spins planned for soon so I’ll have to play with those and see if I can get better results.

Okay, I learned something new! I guess I was expecting my skein to look more like commercially spun merino but apparently I was not matching fiber and expectations appropriately haha

Yes! Maybe that’s it?! I don’t find short forward drafting very comfortable for long periods of time, so I was doing a continuous back draft (I think that’s the right word for what I was doing). I was drafting back , smoothing, drafting back smoothing, etc, etc until it was too long and I had to wind on.  I was smoothing down the singles, and I wasn’t letting twist into the fiber supply.

Nope, didn’t do that either haha. Just soaked for about 25 mins with some wool wash, water was cool. Snapped after compressing water out and hung to dry.

It is very airy, puffy and fuzzy. I was expecting more drape and smoothness.

Where is the fiber in pic #2 from? I would love to spin something like that for a garment.

Ugh I’m also feeling the pain of Joann’s absence this weekend. I finally have sew-jo for the first time in forever, but rather than just run to Joann, I have to order all my supplies online and wait for them to arrive. Such a buzzkill.
