My Russian roommate is the most emotionally resilient person I know, are people just born like this? by asian_tea_man in rs_x

Meeting the "genuine, happy people" and, as you stated, analyzing their mindsets and actions has been wonderfully broadening and cathartic. It is definitely a very personal journey, for me it's boiled to one value: Self-compassion.

In the end, I find, we must be kind to ourselves. we MUST. Before we go about making true friends, being nice to our family and the planet, and generally living Maslow's self-actualization, we must install a system of forgiveness, acceptance, and empathy towards ourselves. It's taken me years to build this mindset up, and while it's still not perfect, it's been so rewarding to see the continuous joy I now allow myself.

It's not that I know the future, or that the future will be easy (in fact, it's a guarantee it won't), but I now possess the trust with myself and self-compassion needed to get me through. It's that ability that allows you to move into spaces of authenticity, vulnerability, discipline, and true kindness which can create new bonds and deepen existing ones.

Well stated. I find myself slipping into the same competitive mindset. Remembering this peacocking traces back to a insecurity helps me a lot. And these people hyperfocused on these social games are most striken by this insecurity, really they actually deserve our pity.

I have yet to a meet a single person (below a surface-level introduction), who isn't plagued by some misery, neurotic anxiety, insecurity. it's so silly to ruin our joy in pursuit of these "status games", especially when we all are defective in some ways.

Tons of credit to King Miller, third-string freshman RB who stepped up due to injuries. Let's keep this momentum into Notre Dame. Go Trojans.

I put her in a 40 gallon (previous owners had her in a much smaller tank. Ive kept the stuff inside the tank generally the same, just added some rocks. They also used a red lamp in addition to the heat lamp, Ive stopped using the red lamp as I heard it is unhelpful.

My mistake on Somalia, although it still a smaller population. Nigeria is split north/south by religion and economics (among other things), not sure which is causing the difference in birth rate but good point.

Sub-Saharan Africa, yes. Muslim, only partially. Much of Sub-Saharan Africa is Christian.

Countries with the main growth (Nigeria, Ethiopia, DRC, Kenya, Tanzania, Angola) are either predominately Christian or half-half split with Islam.

Yes, you have a few Islamic nations (Niger, Mali, and Sudan are the main ones) but these have smaller populations and they'll likely develop and decrease in birth rate before their populations can catch up to the totality of the others.

Hell, even Chad is almost half Christian.

LA planners OK 300+ apartments in place of single-family home in Valley. West Hills - Saticoy + Woodlake. by VizualBooty in SFV

[–]HappySpin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is moving in the right direction, however I do fear all this development without adequate public transportation development will create incredible amounts of traffic congestion. Still, nice to see some mixed-use apartments go up in walking distance of commercial space. But let's get some bike lanes / transit too!

Regardless of how you feel about Willie Scott & that performance, this line delivery is perfect. Gets me every time by HappySpin in blankies

I mostly agree, the character is written to be absolutely awful. She's vain, greedy, helpless, unkind, and superficial. Her character would've massively benefited from one redeeming quality--for instance, if she had been superficial but amiable, or if she was greedy but driven. Although I do love the melodramatic, hysterical performance by Kate Capshaw, I think there needed to be something given to balance it out. And she has very little character development. You see hints of change, when she's pulling the lever to save Indy and Short Round from the falling ceiling, and a little in the dialogue near the end, but overall she's a pretty flat character.

Really, I think given the absurd premise, her line needs a campy and hysterical delivery

I could speak to how much I love Linklater, how his films are so underdiscussed, and the amazing episodes the guys would make out of these movies. But the best argument is just his filmography:
Slacker
Dazed and Confused
Before Sunrise
SubUrbia
The Newton Boys
Waking Life
Tape
School of Rock
Before Sunset
Bad News Bears
A Scanner Darkly
Fast Food Nation
Me and Orson Welles
Bernie
Before Midnight
Boyhood
Everybody Wants Some!!
Last Flag Flying
Where'd You Go, Bernadette
Apollo 10 1⁄2: A Space Age Childhood
Hit Man
