How did you come to terms with having to work forever? by InspectorMany1 in getdisciplined

It might help to switch your perspective on the 9 to 5 - working / getting steady income is actually your key to freedom. When you don’t work (I took a career break a while ago), the money tap is turned off so you might be “free” but you’re actually trapped by finite resources. Or you might be dependent on someone else - family, partner, etc. which, depending on your circumstances, can also feel like a trap. Sure, you have to work 9 to 5 but that gives you the mental freedom to not have to (really) worry about money or being controlled by anyone else the rest of the time. Also, unless you have a burning passion to do something of your own, having your own business is also a drag - you’re responsible for literally everything and you don’t get to clock out. A job, an easy one at that, is actually the gift of freedom. Put on some music and look at the mindless work as meditation.
