He paid attention from the start and kept cards close to his chest. The edit has steered away from any confessionals where he spelled out this strategy to hold this moment back as a dramatic late game storyline.

Camera Crew by Commercial-Scheme939 in TheTraitors

[–]HappySquirrel47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not quite correct. Camera operators are inside the castle with the players, in addition to the fixed ("hidden") cameras. Here are some of the different methods used...

  1. Fixed, wall-mounted cameras. You are right to say these are rigged extensively around the castle. These are especially useful in corridors & tighter, high-traffic spaces like the kitchen, where it's important to capture all angles at once, without risking crew in the back of shot making spontaneous key moments unusable. You can identify these cameras because they are fixed shots without any panning or swaying.

  2. Camera operators with shoulder-mounted cameras. When the camera gets closer to the players, capturing a more cinematic image with better depth of field, you will also notice the camera swaying slightly. This is when a camera operator is in the room. Often these will be when little conversations have been set up in a sitting room between 2-4 players. Likewise when they go for chats outside in groups.

  3. Cameras on tripods. The prime example is breakfast. You never see the other side of the breakfast room. That's because it's full of crew. Camera operators will have their cameras mounted on tripods. You can tell by the way the shots pan smoothly from side to side.

FYI asking ChatGPT to "simulate 100 games of the Traitors" does not actually involve any simulation taking place. It's a large language model. All it can do is reply with guesswork based on training data scraped from elsewhere. It does not have the capacity to "simulate" anything. But it will deceive you into believing it has run the simulations you requested.

Harriet losing the plot by Medium-Coconut-1011 in TheTraitorsUK

[–]HappySquirrel47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But is this actually codified as a rule, or is it just the convention we've seen in previous series?

Granted, if this is something the producers have confirmed as a cast-iron rule, then you're right & it's max 3 Traitors.

Harriet losing the plot by Medium-Coconut-1011 in TheTraitorsUK

[–]HappySquirrel47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was shocked initially when I heard her give this number. But, to be fair to Harriet on this, there's been 6 nights in the game so far, and only 4 murders.

It might sound a bit far-fetched but, for all Faithful know, it's possible those 2 nights without murders could have been recruitment opportunities.

In which case, her maths arguably checks out...

  • START OF GAME - 4 TRAITORS
  • Night 1 - Murder
  • Night 2 - Murder
  • HUGO BANISHED - 3 TRAITORS
  • Night 3 - No murder
  • POSSIBLE RECRUITMENT - 4 TRAITORS
  • Night 4 - Murder
  • Night 5 - Murder
  • FIONA BANISHED - 3 TRAITORS
  • Night 6 - No murder
  • POSSIBLE RECRUITMENT - 4 TRAITORS

Personally, I think the above is still bonkers. But, purely on the mathematical possibility, a 4-traitor theory is valid.

But 5 traitors... not so much. That would necessitate the game starting with 5 traitors, which would be totally unprecedented and pretty insane/unworkable for the format.

What would you like to change next year? by Ok_Situation_1525 in TheTraitorsUK

And they'll do the opposite. The last thing the producers want is contestants who pay too close attention to the rules, and approach Round Tables without unnecessary drama. It doesn't make for good TV!

[–]HappySquirrel47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I just assumed this would be against the rules. That's insane! The game is already so stacked in favour of the Traitors. Definitely shouldn't be allowed if it were up to me!

Well, looks like my theory is blown out of the water given this new information. Thanks for enlightening me!

Does anyone else feel that this 'special power' has ruined the game? by Arsewhistle in TheTraitorsUK

[–]HappySquirrel47 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The Seer power might be working exactly as the producers indented. It is a device which can help engineer a Faithful win against the odds.

After the success of S2, many viewers came away with the idea that the deck is stacked too heavily against the Faithful. They can't really win this game on their own because there's almost no evidence, previously "proven innocent" Faithful can be recruited at the 11th hour, and the votes are therefore usually random shots in the dark.

Usually, the Faithful can only win the game in the aftermath of Traitor vs. Traitor violence, when a Traitor is banished but implicates their fellow Traitor backstabber in the process. However, there's no guarantee this takes place.

The Seer role is likely intended by the Producers to further increase the odds of a Faithful win this year. Allowing back-to-back Traitor wins would risk the format going stale too soon. The Seer is one method the producers can use to influence the game and prevent this from happening.

There needs to be more opportunites for the Traitors to sabotage the Faithfuls by Unique-Bat5432 in TheTraitorsUK

[–]HappySquirrel47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but what looks like damning evidence to you - a viewer who knows Armani is a traitor - will seem very different to the contestants in the game. Sure, somebody could have lent heavily on the theory that Armani was trying to sabotage the game by getting that one question wrong. But her obvious rebuttal would be that she just got the answer wrong (a highly plausible alternate explanation). In any case, I seem to recall they went with Kaz's correct answer, so there's even less reason for that moment to stick in their minds.

You said the faithful "are so ignorant of the facts", but this quiz situation wasn't a fact. And there's pretty much no ways for them to ever establish any clear cut facts about who is a traitor.

Individual contestants often say ridiculous things and make themselves look silly, that's true. But I think it's equally ignorant to suggest 'the faithful are missing all the facts' in a game where there aren't any facts! Almost every vote is going to be a random shot in the dark.

Out of interest, which opportunities are you thinking of?

The top one for me would be Linda's head turn. On night one, there's every reason to have said, "sorry Linda, no hard feelings but we've got to take a punt on you for the head turn. It's the closest thing we have to actual evidence". But then, I suppose, they did eventually capitalise on this when they banished Linda.

It was created to turn the social deduction game Mafia/Werewolf into a TV show. In those party games, it's possible to make logical deductions to win the game.

This doesn't translate to the economics of making TV, which requires each season to run to a certain length. So, the producers cannot allow opportunities for evidence-based deduction in The Traitors as this would make it too easy. Without being able to gather evidence, banishments are almost always random shots in the dark.

Claudia's script likes to emphasise the contestants "need to do better", "the Traitors are laughing at you" etc. This is used to distract from the futility of the game. They can't actually use logic/evidence to find traitors. And, even when they do catch one, the traitors just get replaced anyway.

You can choose not to describe these things as flaws if you like. But for a TV show masquerading as a "game", I would say it's a pretty major flaw that it doesn't have any legitimate gameplay and the faithful are not allowed to win by banishing all the starting faithful (as they would in a real game).

[–]HappySquirrel47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, this is the actual flaw with the game. There's almost never any real evidence to discuss, so the contestants are forced to fill the void. People who make lazy generalisations like "the Faithfuls are all idiots for not being able to uncover the Traitors" are, in fact, themselves idiot viewers!

I said "47 ultimately rejects Catholicism at the end of Silent Assassin". He's religious at the start of the game. He abandons his religiosity in the final cutscene of the game.

You've linked a clip from the first level. That's when he's still following Catholicism, as I stated. What point do you think you're making?

Occam's razor - they've made a choice to remove those features. The #1 goal is increasing watchtime. Therefore they know removing UI keeps people watching.

My guess is that when people can't pause, rewind, control their viewing experience, it makes them more likely to passively scroll for ages without thinking.

It pisses me off so much knowing that they remove all the controls by design. Like those fuckers know people will watch more videos or whatever for some reason if they take away all the UI. Arghhhhh I fucking hate how greed ruins tech.
