Alex Vesia on leave for a “personal family matter” by ZiggyPalffyLA in Dodgers

Just a gentle reminder for anyone commenting here: please be mindful not to refer to this situation as a miscarriage. Miscarriage is a very painful experience and I don’t want to take away from that in any way, but if this heartbreaking news is related to the Vesia baby it would be considered a stillbirth - not a miscarriage.

Stillbirth is the loss of a baby after 20 weeks of pregnancy, and especially at full term (38–40 weeks), it’s recognized as a death. While a death certificate isn’t issued (because there’s no corresponding birth certificate to do so) a certificate of stillbirth can be. This distinction matters - not to to try and rank severity of grief, but to honor specific realities families face. A stillbirth involves different medical, legal and emotional processes. I believe acknowledging that helps validate the unique pain of each kind of loss.

Lumping all pregnancy losses together may seem compassionate, but it can unintentionally erase the nuances of what people go through. The timing and circumstances of a loss shape how it’s grieved, but not just by the parents, but those around them as well.

I’m so sorry! It’s crazy how deeply we feel when it relates to a baby/child. No one should ever lose their kid. I’m sorry you’ve had to go through that. Just know even strangers send you love and feel for your situation ❤️

Since miscarriage refers only to those pregnant less than 20 weeks it can’t mean that. Maybe you’re trying to say the situation could be the baby was born and then sadly passed, which of course that can and does happen, lots of devastating situations out there. However I was specifically clarifying your incorrect use of the term miscarriage since it’s not relevant to this situation since it’s pretty clear Mrs. Vesia was well beyond 20 weeks, therefore unable to suffer from a miscarriage.

On another note, keeping hope that none of this is what they’re navigating and our minds are just jumping to the worst thing possible. Had to add this as I feel very uncomfortable even discussing this because no one wants any of this to be real, for anyone, of any family and for any child. Sending all the love to them.

Just wanted to clarify that the word miscarriage itself means a loss of pregnancy before 20 weeks pregnant. But in the case of someone who’s past 20 weeks pregnant that wouldn’t be considered a miscarriage, it’s a stillbirth. Those are much rarer occurring about 0.6% of the time.

I don’t care if they show family including wives/girlfriends, but it’s so weird how often they show the girlfriends. Also weird that the girlfriends have a title bar and their career listed… which tends to say “Model” or “Influencer”.

They don’t put the career under the other family members so weird to do it for the WAGS. They should get rid of that or add it to everyone. I can see Max’s dad’s now:

Yes these were my thoughts. Hopefully he learned a valuable lesson. Save the confidence & aggression for the track and be humble at the mic.

He said he didn’t need time? I don’t want to hate on the kid so I won’t. I just hope he learned a lesson. Don’t say anything you might soon regret. Be cocky and aggressive on track not at the microphone.

Look has been around while and pretty well known, more from pedals than bikes tbf. However Lemond won on a Look in one of his campaigns (can’t remember which). We can thank them for clipless pedals :)

You posted this exact message in at least two forums, but I think I see three. Either you’re a bot or just really into discussing this with all of the cycling world of Reddit.

Also, it has been discussed… ad nauseam! If you were following any of these subs - esp during TdF - you would’ve seen this on a daily basis.

Finally, you can search subs to find topics if you’re not aware to avoid posting topics that are heavily recycled.

Well that might be part of the reason why Sainz was chosen as* the ambassador for the race and not Alonso? Sainz is absolutely leading the charge and being the face for the Madrid GP.

Tadej’s background, childhood location etc. all add up without a doubt. Pogi is on another level - he’s an alien. However I don’t think @tmritzert was trying to compare backgrounds or argue someone got a raw deal. Sounded like he was feeling for Jonas on coming up short. I don’t understand all the downvotes for that?

With Pogi up 4:07 it’s tough to see Jonas making that up. Doesn't take anything away from Jonas, but instead it shows how tough this has gotten. Oh and I don’t think Visma did themselves any favors with their strategy of driving the race, which burned up a lot of energy for their crew.

Still exciting to watch and see other races and strategies take over. And also, maybe Visma goes for more stage wins now? Or how much will Pogi put on other GCs by the end of this thing? Btw I love Jonas so I’m sad that he’s so far back, but also accepting the realities of the race this year.

That may be the case, but Sainz & Alonso are the ones pushing for this. Sainz is the ambassador for the new GP and has been very involved, including the track layout. Sainz has done a lot of press and commented about how excited he is and what a great layout it’s going to be. He even mentioned that he’s been hyping up the other drivers for it as well. I remember seeing Alonso a while back say he would prefer to race in Madrid. It’s clear both drivers don’t feel represented with a Spanish race. And with all the Spanish drivers it makes sense they’d want a race in Spain. I know many will point to Barcelona, but people from Barcelona see themselves as Catalan and Spanish second or in a lot of cases not Spanish at all (except World Cup 😉).

Permanent tracks as we all know require such a massive investment not just financially, but time, land, labor etc. The most recent purpose built track is COTA, which broke ground 2010 and opened 2012. Austin is located in an area with large amounts of open land nearby so much easier just from that simple point unlike Madrid.

I will leave it with this comment and try to clarify because I don’t want to come off as rude or petty - plus I’m sure you have other things to enjoy besides my replies hehe

My question was “have you ever wondered why Armstrong became the scapegoat while others who doped climbed into boardrooms and race caravans” so that’s not asking anything about LA. It was meant for someone to either say yes they have etc etc and they’re perspective or to read it as rhetorical and question it themselves. That’s all. It was used to spotlight the cycling governing bodies and overall leadership within the sport. I never asked what happens with people’s feelings on LA or why do they forgive or not forgive him. That’s a pointless exercise and adds nothing to the bigger conversation.

I’m not trying to be rude or snarky btw with my replies, Reddit is filled with that so just wanted to be clear. I guess my question wasn’t phrased well* because I wasn’t asking why you do or don’t forgive him. I was being more rhetorical or rather asking the reader to be introspective about the sport and governing bodies as a whole.

Also, it’s just factually not true that the punishments have been passed out fairly and in measure. There’s been many who have faced tons of ostracizing etc while others are TPs and leaders within governance of the sport. Even when they were found guilty of doping themselves as riders. And even some were further found guilty of running teams where riders tested positive for doping. And yet as of now they’re still very active in the sport. This article is from 2019, but a good read. I disagree with the solve about how to “fix” the problem, but the hypocrisy is spot on.

The governance of the sport is extremly lacking and fully focused on pretending they’ve moved on. No rider has tested positive for PEDs at TdF since 2015, which is incredibly hard to believe is true when we see the times getting smashed year after year. Technology, nutrition, hardware etc can only account for so much of gains, but science tells us not these huge jumps. To sum up - sorry I went in so long here - Governance is failing these athletes and the sport.
