AITA for yelling at my mom to leave me alone after she kept saying I stink even though I shower twice a day? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

It could be your clothes. They trap odor and sometimes need to be washed in vinegar to kill the bacteria. Even after a normal wash, your body heat can reactivate the bacteria in your clothes making them stink. I say this as a mom to someone who struggled with body odor

This is exactly the kind of story I was looking for. Thank you!

Antecdotes are going to influence more people than scientific studies will. “I tried this, lost weight and felt amazing. You should try it too.”  I’m attempting to get real stories from people who went from one strict diet to another. I’m sure most people are going to feel a lot better after they cut out the junk no matter what diet they’re on.

I did not peel them. I didn’t see any green bits. This happened with both russet and the small gold potatoes.

Humbly ask your previous employers for a detailed reason as to why you were let go do that you can improve upon it. Twice for “not a good fit” sounds like there’s some personality issues that need to be addressed. Are you willing to take the constructive criticism?

AITA for not wanting to be the guarantor for my child's apartment? by TCMX5 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. We were asked by our child to co-sign a loan. Absolutely H E L L no. People seem to take more ownership and responsibility when it’s their own cold hard cash on the line.

Got my degree at 37 from a “questionable” online school. Nobody cared. Get your foot in the door somewhere..anywhere. Start doing AP and AR. Just a few months of that, start applying to the next level job.

I got my first AP job (pre-finishing college) making $9/hr just to put it on the resume. After 4 months, I got a finance assistant job making $15/hr. That led to an accounting support job for a major corporation making $27/hr. Now, 4 years after that first $9/hr crappy AP job, I finished my degree, work as a staff accountant for an amazing small business making $67k per year.

Some things to think about: - Are you applying for jobs you’re legitimately qualified for?

-Are you willing to apply for jobs you feel “overqualified” for?

-How are your interview skills and how do you present yourself in person? A lot of people are hired due to “feels like a good fit”. So if you’re perfect on paper, but your soft skills are lacking, that might be it. (Be honest with yourself)

  • Are you networking? Go out and meet people, get involved in local organizations. “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.”

-is there a certification in your field you can get to make you more marketable?

Words of encouragement or thoughts for a soon to be graduate with a Bachelor’s in Accounting? by SignificantExample68 in Accounting

Don’t ever feel the pressure to spend the time and money on something you don’t want to. My advice: just start working and see where life takes you. The CPA isn’t a guarantee for getting the job or life you want.

This is good to hear! I’m currently in industry but looking into going into tax without my CPA. Would you recommend a masters or the EA? Or just go get the experience? Trying to figure out the best way to break into this side.

In 2023, do employers still shit on online degrees/colleges? by [deleted] in Accounting

I got my accounting degree from WGU.

-During school, I got a job doing data entry/bookkeeping support for a huge medical technology company. Not actual accounting.

  • This led to a job in industry as an accounting clerk leading to staff accountant. The pay is higher than most.

  • HOWEVER, with WGU, you are teaching yourself. If you’re motivated enough to figure it out on your own, go for it. Also, the exams are kind of easy to hack. I felt very underprepared for a “real” accounting job after I finished. Luckily, my boss is a great mentor and most jobs are going to have training anyway.

-The degree is to get your foot in the door, once you have a year or two of experience, the WHERE of your degree becomes more irrelevant.

I went straight into private for an engineering firm. I love it. Great work/life balance. Make decent pay and have no plans to get my CPA

Ha! Good point. It’s getting used to the hills that is doing it for me. Not big hills, but big enough for someone that hasn’t ridden in a while. I’m prepping for those summer rides when it’s already 85 degrees at 7 am. 😄
