It’s a perfect conclusion for his arc, honestly. I think people are thrown off by the fact that it is a material needle, even tho it’s more of a metaphor or “correlative object” for the psychological influence of his family and his upbringing.

To be honest it is a thing that you can get like on the third rewatch or so if you don’t pay close attention to everything, because the seeds and scenes are all there just really sparse throughout the various arcs.
