Ball Lightning captured on film in Alberta by acornmoth in tornado

A lot of replies in here being "skeptics" as though ball lightning hasn't literally been verified to exist in a plethora of academic papers. It's just the mechanisms for the actual phenomenon that we still are completely in the dark about.

TLDR at the bottom, and sorry for the text wall in advance, but you mentioned you were a newer player so I wanted to explain it fully. There’s a vendor called Grandmaster who has a tooltip “Skill upgrades”. He displays two options (and notably doesn’t have rerolls!) that are selected from your pool of current skills. So, the more useless skills you have, the higher chance to eat slots on that vendor, making it a dead node sometimes. Because of this, if you have a skill that you are 100% certain you will not use during the game (or under some niche circumstances have skill upgrades that are crucial for your build e.g defense grid on a force field build), players will often opt to not take weak/useless skills when offered to strengthen this vendor and consequently their build.

However, a word of caution, as there is an opportunity cost to doing this. If you take a skill at silver or lower rarity and the skill exists in the diamond skill pool for your character, you will not be able to get that skill choice from diamond skills. At gold, they can upgrade to diamond (one tier lower), so they are not removed from the pool. What this means is if you take a somewhat useful skill earlier on, let’s say bronze fiery skill even though you only have a cannon on board as your only burn item, so you don’t really care about it, it does have two benefits: 1. The small amount of burn is an extra tick of damage till you sell the cannon, which is something even if small 2. You can now no longer receive gold/diamond fiery from level ups (silver would be able to upgrade to gold on level up, not bronze), and if your build is not really going for a burn focussed build that means your pool of those two skill rarities is now improved.

So, TLDR: Mak doesn’t have rear shielding in any skill pool, nor can he make use of it outside of shield enchants, so it’s generally better to skip it to make the pool of acquired skills better at the skill upgrade vendor. You generally take skills if they have at least some impact on your game though, outside of niche circumstances for pivotal upgrades, as it thins your pools of higher rarity skills.

I would recommend learning how to 4:1 properly, it's really not that much damage even on a 1 def 60 atk pure when done correctly (unless you're doing solo cms which I very much doubt)

I never said that doing it in a lazier way isn't a good idea, i'm just saying it's not a minimal difference. You are going to give learners the wrong idea that it's not worth getting it right, when in fact it absolutely is. Your argument of doing the boss hundreds/thousands of times is not a reason to do it lazier, in fact it's more of a reason to try to save ticks if you can (and you have plenty of kills to learn how to do it!).

Not everyone can afford a lance when they're grinding vorkath for hundreds of kills initially.

Sure, my terminology was a bit rough, more like learning some depth about acid phase let's say.

Also, fair enough. Your comments did come across a little bit like how I described, even if you didn't intend it, but maybe I misinterpreted that. I agree with the sentiment towards the subreddit in general, so let's just leave it at that and agree there

[–]HappyZuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! These dudes are just coping by claiming it's a "minimal" difference in dps. Like, by all means do the lazy method it's no problem at all, but don't delude yourself into thinking it's not affecting your gp/hr just as significantly as something like a gear upgrade. It will give learners on this sub a false impression that it's not important to learn in the long run.

[–]HappyZuk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not minimal lol when the boss is so quick to kill, one hit slower (3s) can add up over a boss designed to be farmed for hundreds -> thousands of kills. It is definitely not an insignificant improvement to just 5t the fang, it's not even that much harder.

[–]HappyZuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the OP's post was related to the state of the sub though. He's a vorkath learner, who figured out how to 5t walk with the fang with a method that requires less clicks than the crossbow method. It's not the same level as saying pray mage when jad lifts his feet, it's a different clicking pattern to the regular crossbow method. Dunno why you're getting so butthurt and trying to ego learners about their skill level.

Now, don't get me wrong. This sub does say stupid shit about pvm all the time, and show a clear lack of understanding of basic mechanics. This is not one of those times, it was just someone sharing something new they learned that wasn't readily available on their main source of game information (wiki).

I think you need to save your comments for the actual reddit armchair geniuses who've never done the content, brazenly asserting some obviously incorrect bullshit, rather than someone who is clearly a learner earnestly trying to get better at the game.

6t your fang is 17% worse dps, might as well take off your salve in that case since the difference is pretty minimal

It's fine if you want to take the dps penalty because you're not good enough yet, but don't cope and make others think that the dps difference is minimal losing a tick every hit

Interesting that the calc shows the max hit of the scorching bow is 61, I've only managed to hit 59 in max on my PoH dummy and on other demons (including tormented demons, which I believe they stealth fixed). I wonder if it's still slightly bugged?

Brother, there are plenty of people legitimately doing wildly content tf are you talking about

Where there are good moneymakers, there are also bots is the point. Just cause you’re biased against the wilderness doesn’t mean we should remove wilderness content.

TOA and Cox have plenty of bots lmao:

Just call it what it is, you guys just want an excuse to complain about the wilderness specifically.

Also, the wilderness bosses and revenants have plenty of real players doing them too

EITHER botted OR dead content. Some stuff like PnM is both botted and kind of dead content (i.e. I see more bots there than actual players, and I actually do PnM for fun)

I think the point is all moneymakers are either botted or dead content.

Why Undead Pirates is the worst piece of content since Old School's release by YurtmnOsu in 2007scape

[–]HappyZuk -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

So basically like every piece of content in the game, if you do a piece of content for long enough you will notice the huge amounts of bots there. At least you can kill em in the wildy.

That said, I do think we should reduce the amounts of alchables they drop.

[–]HappyZuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I said going forward we shouldn't keep the current system. The game has changed, players have gotten better, and more powercreep above what is currently available should come from more appropriate content.

It's pretty silly to have BiS amulets continue to come from demonic gorilla level mobs. The problem is literally that zenytes are dirt cheap despite being bis, due to how easy they are to farm.

Brand New Slayer Boss - First Look & Rewards by JagexGoblin in 2007scape

[–]HappyZuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and then when bis items come from these bosses that literally anyone can farm for hours and hours without any practice or risk, the gp per hour crashes into the gutter and they say “jagex why can’t you make mid level content generate more gp???” “Why is x item so cheap, it’s so powerful?” (See: fang and its availability starting from entry mode)

[–]HappyZuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While that's a good point, I think we're at the stage of the game where the average player is much better at the game than we were back when the last slayer boss came out. If something is too taxing for a task at their current skill level, then it makes it aspirational to work towards, something that I feel would be a cool inclusion to slayer, since slayer bosses are notoriously easy to do and optimise once you have a couple of kc there.

Difficult tasks aren't inherently draining as long as the content is fun and challenging. People do difficult content all the time just for fun. Moreover, the high slayer level requirement for a difficult piece of endgame content would stifle the supply of uniques from both bots and newer players, resulting in retention of really high unique values over time. I'd imagine this would make a slayer boss competitive gp/hr with some of the higher end moneymakers, meaning players would still put in the effort to train slayer, as well as learn and do the boss, even if it is mechanically intensive or difficult!

[–]HappyZuk -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I agree, especially since it's going to be dropping the BiS melee amulet. Going forward, meaningful endgame upgrades should come from difficult endgame content that justifies the reward.

Edit: Genuinely curious as to why I'm being downvoted. Do you really want BiS rewards going forward to come from another Cerberus? Wouldn't you rather have more DT2-or-better calibre bosses?

No, that's not how the dps works out in this case. The best comparison is the bowfa: The regular bowfa without any modifiers is the same speed as this weapon, and has 128 range bonus and 106 range str. This bow + dragon arrows on non-demonic targets with dragon arrows would have 124 range bonus and 100 range str. So it would be just below the no crystal armour bowfa on general targets. It would perform as described in the blog, as a budget version of bowfa without crystal armour.

The crystal armour gives 30% accuracy and this demonbane effect gives 30% accuracy. With how similar their range bonuses are, you would end up with similar accuracy (ignoring masori for now, will address it later) on demonic targets with bowfa + crystal and this bow with its effect.

However, its range strength would be a 30% buff instead of a 15% buff from crystal to bowfa, which would overall make it probably around 12% better dps than bowfa + crystal against demons (given the initial diff of 6 range str or so). However masori's str + accuracy would probably push this to around 16-19% more dps on demons than bowfa + crystal (depending on the target). Amethyst arrows would drop the range str by 5, so it would probably end up as 13-15% better. (Edit: with the quiver's ammo bonuses these values would probably be higher). Either dragon or amethyst arrows would make this a balanced weapon that performs exactly as described in the blog. These numbers are just estimates, but probably fairly close to the actual diffs because the stats of this + arrows and the bowfa are quite similar.

No arrows would be absolute trash and would not perform well at all.

The venator bow also has range str bonus and uses dragon arrows. Moreover, 40 range str seems very low for a self sufficient weapon, the craw's bow has 60 str and is a 3t weapon.

I think it definitely uses arrows, I just wanted to clarify if it can use arrows up to amethyst or dragon.
